Corona 10 inch Folding Saw Review

Description

I love this little saw and have used it for a number of years so I thought I would do a review on it for others who may be considering a folding saw for camping, backpacking or survival kit.

no perry peacock here with wilderness innovation I'm up the canyon today got us it's beautiful weather up here we've got a little bit of light snow falling and I i love it when that happens it's a hits a great wonderful thing Sal these snowflakes fall in and kind of getting heavy into the file and getting ready to get into winter here so it's a that's another season another set activities but my purpose today is is I wanted to cover one of my favorite influence that I like this here I've had 44 week going on five years now and it's been through the war with me it's a Saab by Corona and I like corona I've used a good number corona tools over the years I used to do it quite a bit of work with pruning fruit trees and that type of arborist type functions and and I cut at the time when I was taking my schooling and all that I i got into using a lot of corona tools and I I don't know I just always liked them they work some people may think well maybe it's a little large for carrying in your profile of it is pretty small it's pretty lightweight I don't think it's even half a pound i don't think it's pretty alright let's cover a few things about the saw here now of course it's a folding folding saw it's got a locking spring-loaded locking mechanism here the locks in very nicely and one thing i like i don't know if we can get to it here it had even though the handle is a plastic heavy and a pretty sturdy plastic handle on us you know takes a lot of abuse you see right here in between the plastic there's actually some stainless steel in there that goes all the way through and this actually gives a little bit more wearability where

you know the saw blade is your opening and closing it you're not rubbing right on the plastic but it's actually metal to metal right there which that gives it a little a little better fit in and and it also slides good you're not wearing out your handle so that's one thing and it's got a pretty and even the mechanism here that locks locks the blade in ism is a is a metal pin spring spring-loaded pin and so that's you know you don't have all the key areas where you got your binding points and all that we've got we got metal so that's good like I say the blade is about a foot long i like i like the blades curvature here which you know a little it's got a little bit of a drop point to it which the thing i like about that is as you're cutting and pulling back it actually seems like it gives a little bit extra cutting ability as you come to the tip right here whereas a lot of times you have the flat profile kind of as you get to the end it's kind of like you're losing a little leverage as you get out here as far as having pressure and with this little curve to it even even with just the way to the saw gravity is kind of pulling this thing down so so it's actually even on its own just with gravity it's putting more cutting pressure out here on the tip so I really like that I also like the nice thin kerf to the blade nice nice stainless steel blade and the thin kerf to it means you're not cutting as fat of a groove or a slot in the woods we're removing less wood which translates to less energy required to do your cut so that's one nice thing I like about that the blade also is is a little bit flexible which is kind of handy too it's not real brittle where it's going to break or anything like that that so it's pretty sturdy that way it's all held together with a metal nut and screw here getting back into the handle part of the blade something I like about that is it has this black part is kind of a sticky kind of a rubberized plastic and it's even with even with damp hands from the from the drizzle we're getting here the little snow pellets and stuff that's falling when I grab the handle it's still it's still sticky so you got a very nice grip on it and the other thing I like you can hold the handles made to be you can hold it up here and saw you can also do a two-handed I step back here you also do a two-handed stroke and also another way I like to if I'm dealing with wood the slaying horizontal a lot of times I'll get back and I'll just hold it right by the very in here and I'll just saw more like kind of like you would or the that's old-fashioned al carpenter saw so it gives you a lot of different cutting options and ways to hold it another thing it has a hole in the handle here where you can tie you put a cord through there and clip it to a carabiner or whatever so you have a little lanyard on it that makes it handy keep from losing it or or if you want to clip it on you or something like that when you're not in don't have it in use gives you that option so anyway so that's the sod that the latch latch is very securely and also latches some don't do this but also latches in the closed position so it's not going to come undone on you the blade does nest into the handle well enough that even writing in your pack and stuff just naked by itself like this it's not going to snag on any clothing or something like that in there so the teeth of a blade or well shielded so think now we'll just get into maybe trying some cutting and stuff and show you a little bit about okay I'm gonna cut us a couple more little pieces here here we go not too bad one more to go here okay now I've got some of this wood that's not the best use for your cell to use it for X but I'm going to do a little trim in here and like I say horizontal a lot of times I like to just hold it like this pulls to cut some pull by the way out to the end so now that works pretty good so anyway that's my corona folding saw that's what I like to take with me anytime I'm camping backpacking generally anytime I got my day pack on I just shove it down inside its it's small enough and light enough it doesn't really matter to me but it's always a handy tool you can do a lot of work with it with a lot less effort then you know take fees an ax or something else so it's a good tool to have a good saw whether use corona or not like I say I like it so let's just my review my evaluation two thumbs up for the corona
