Fall Camp on the Skyline - Just for Practice - and a Nap in the Rain

I got itchy to get out, as if I'm not out enough already, haha, but anyway I went up to over 9000 ft into the fall colors of the Quaking Aspen to do a quick set up, and take an afternoon nap. It felt good.

every so often every so often once or twice a week I I have to get out you know I just just it's just who I am I can't the can't just I can't stay in that long I gotta get out still even though it's Saturday afternoon spend kind of rainy there's been snow up in the tops of the mountains a little I don't know what I'm gonna find up here one of the rare occasions I I didn't go camping on Friday but there's so much work to do getting orders out and just stuff like that just I don't know what I'm gonna find up here but I'm gonna go up and I'm going to do something work pretty late Friday night

got up early Saturday and China got up early too and she went some did sewing and I put some stuff together got a whole slew of stuff shipped out today cuz it might just take a nap who knows I have no idea what I'm gonna do but that shouldn't surprise any of you that's followed me for very long I usually don't know it it just happens so let's see what goes on here some pretty good fall colors going on up here and it's kind of misty out but it's beautiful I think it should really look nice up on top when I get up there the snow of the snow that was here earlier is gone well it's still a little chilly but it's beautiful and look at those colors it's fantastic I'd pick between a couple of trees down here and I'm I'm just gonna set up my set up my hammock and I'll throw a tarp over and everything what the heck I don't generally camp over on two Sundays that's our church day so I don't I'm usually rarely camping on Sunday camping it's still always a good so always a good thing to just go up and set some gear up you can never get too much practice and I'll probably just get downright cozy and take a little snooze I'm always about wanting to see my surroundings when I go camping and I love it I mean that's part of my thrill lay in my hammock and just be able to see everything you know I don't like to be in a tent they come going on six years of no tent yeah so I just think right here nice view just beautiful beautiful

I wasn't stocked up on my year at my annual supply of gloves and stuff I always get a pair of these gloves right here there

it's a poly acrylic polyester acrylic and

what I what I like about them is this stuff is it's kind of like a synthetic wool really I mean they're cheap as dirt they're like I don't know three or four bucks they last a good while I'll use a couple pair of these through a winter but but they're actually warm and I've had I've been in when it's been sloppy snow and stuff and had these on and then it'll work with him and these things are warm even when they're acts just dripping wet but the nice thing I can wring them out put them back on and and go again let's get started here I'm kind of excited I think it'll be fun just a fun exercise you know practice practice practice that's how you get good at stuff practice all right I got some gear with me I'm literally I know you've you've heard me say this like almost every trip I go on what do you know what I brought I let I I grabbed some stuff out of my truck because it's still broke down put a new computer in it runs better but it's still not there anyway so I brought the Tahoe today anyway so I grab some gear I got the the new ripstop HD poncho that series they're super tough ripstop HD and I'm gonna use that for my I got my gloves here I'm gonna use my Dyneema cord with the little you know with the little hammock suspension keys I've been toying around with that's how I'm gonna hang it up I brought one of our ultralight tarp rectangular tarps ten feet long five feet wide a little more than five feet wide ten feet long and I brought a little I need to honestly put these in a little or bag but because look at that that's the suspension kit the ultralight suspension kit for the ultralight tarp that sellers to it it's like three ounces or something you know it's alright so I really want to hang between this tree right here this tree right over here I'm gonna hang between those two trees I just it gives me the perfect view out here you know so I just want to do it you know so that's what I'm gonna do

it's about I walked it off it's about 13 feet so that's pretty I like to be about 15 as a little more ideal but with my Dyneema cord just what the eyes in my little my little rig right here I can go pretty I could go I could go 10 feet to do it so this is the the rips the RIP stop HD kind of our medium weight it's heavy weight rip stop but it's lighter than the Cordura HD our standard heavy-duty line HD this is a moly bag so we get them all the attachment onto it and it's a sweet little setup I love it this thing is so this thing is so nice and sturdy even though even though it's half it's only you know it's it's half the weight it's less than 2 pounds fabrics brand-new I've only used it a few times so it's a little like like all all brand-new fabrics a little crispy a little you know cuz it came out of the middle you know through those rollers and all its sort of thing pressed and you know sort of things so all fabric is a little crispy I cut it wet it's brand new

but as it gets folded and refold and and crinkled up and all that over time it gets quieter and softer and all that so so just keep in mind this is brand new and that's just the way it is this is a new size that we've introduced and we're making available on all our gear it's called a PSS le the PSS PSS is the regular size

PSS l that means long so PSS l to little longer it's a foot longer if you lay the fabric out flat like you're going to do a tarp or ground cloth so it's eight eight feet long laid out flat our standard TS SL has always been a foot longer in the back than in the front so the front side was the same length as our PSS the back side was a foot longer so I'll give you something to sit on or some people would use it as extra material extra material if that a big pack on or something like that underneath the poncho you know so that's kind of the idea but this one is le so it's equal length so it's long but it's equal length in the front and the back so so when you look at it here you see it's the same front back know for sure I'm hanging down far enough I'm five ten I'm easily hanging down far enough so if I'm in a pouring rain or something you know my poncho is going to hang down low enough to be lower than the top of my boot

you know you've give all Seema deal we sew a cord sleeve in the in the bottom ends of our Poncho's which leaves us a tube that we can drop our cord down through whether it's parachute cord or Dyneema or whatever and drop that down to there gather it up because gathered in hammock alright let's put my Dyneema cord around the tree they want to shove the end of that through there that direction so the hook is facing down and all I do is drop outs about how much I need put a little half hitch around there BAM I'm up that's it that's all there is to it well how to put my gloves on it's only it's only about 440 40 42 degrees out here so it's a little chilly a little breeze blowing anyway here's my setup man is that not beautiful telling you what one thing I one thing I should show you you've probably seen already but our hoods you just drop the drawstring here and now everybody talks about wanting to have a pocket on their hammock well it's right there well it started raining on me it's actually a little bit like snow because it's a little tiny snowflakes so there I am up inside of there we're getting a little light snow here tiny tiny snowflakes I've been tinkering around a little I've kind of made some changes and stuff though I'm gonna hurry it lay down in there and take me a little snooze and then pack up and get out of here I guess something ever since we started doing the ultralight Poncho's I usually have lined up throwing a spare one and bottom I'm not and the bottom on my backpack my day pack or whatever because sometimes it's just nice to have a spare one I'm up you know about ninety four hundred feet elevation here it's getting a little chilly that feels good RAS ro sneaked cloak it's got snaps on it the snap butter on it much they match up with the snaps it's on our on our punch shows and everything and now this thing will do just fine as it is I'll tell you it feels a whole lot better with this on right now than it felt and it's felt just messing around with without this on there gets water-repellent but not waterproof

we don't want it waterproof we want it to breathe because it's designed to go under a poncho again I can snap it in under a poncho or or I can just put the poncho over it you know it now I'm waterproof it can rain it can do whatever I'm insulated underneath with my Oni cloak which I can also use in my hammock as a blanket or an under quilt or whatever so I mean I've got I've got multi-purpose it says now this is the one point 120 altra light poncho so it has the plastic so it has the plastic snaps in it but you're not compatible to try to snap in our other accessories but it's fine as you can see I mean I've got my Oni cloak underneath I got this over top and I just snapped it down so my OCD cloak is covered in and I'm good to go so I've got a good amount of insulation under me under me almost you know I'm close to an inch thick of loft and then with the poncho over top there keeps the elements out I'm really a nice shape I don't exactly want to get any thicker in these bits yeah how much mud I got no I have to drop them off here anyway feels good to lay back I'll tell you that this is just this is just heaven being up here in the woods the leaves changing rain and snow mix here and there it just makes it nice having these nice warm clothing on everything through my beast in the bottom of my hammock and I make I feel absolutely nothing through that when I use that in the cold it's very nice ah it's nice to lay back and relax it's about a busy week and it feels good to be comfortable and I'll tell you it I'm gonna take me a little nap I'm telling you so there's what we look like looking out of my little shelter here use my ripstop HD tarp overhead you see the keeping the rain and stuff off of me and just a very simple little setup well I'm heading out of here

a little bit of a deal getting out of where I was parked in there because all that wet clay pick was a little bit slippery I'm driving a little bit on the slow side to throw off my tires are like this thick with mud I'm trying to drive a little slow to throw most of it out without throwing it all over the truck I had a good time I learned a few things
