hi guys I've got for you today is another knot and today I'm going to be showing you at the first of a few types of lashings and you can use for lashing bits of award or different bits and pieces together so ta I'm going to be showing you the square lash is really soft so I'm we angle the camera now to my log where I'm going to be working this ok so let's move that up here a little bit I need my cameraman with me for this really what never mind so your squirrel lashing what it does is you can use it to take two pieces of wood like this for example and you can lash them so they'll stay together like this like a cross ok so to start our squirrel lashing we do a clove hitch if you don't know how to do a clove hitch please check out my video on it so start with a clove hitch at one end or just bring that over now you want your clove hitch or you're not whatever you whatever not you decide to use to tie off you want that to be as close to where you're doing you're lashing as possible so I've got that right up to the wood ok so let's just see if i can rearrange this camera a little bit more so that you can see exactly where I'm working here there we go so I've got my wood tied off and I've got my working end here and I haven't got much rope left over here because we don't need this in the square lashing that piece of cord does nothing else so to start off with we start by going over the top of this piece and then underneath the bottom piece tangle up about that then pull that tight so it's over the top there then back over the top of the top piece and under the bottom piece as you can see that is already starting to hold that in place now you want to be keeping these as tight as you possibly can while you're doing this and then you just repeat that pattern so over under over again under over under so what you're starting to get is this shape here and if you turn it over it will look the same what going the opposite way on the other side now keep those as tight as you can the tighter this is the stronger this this frame will be that you're trying to create so once you've done that a few times the amount of times that you need to do that Reid is very dependent on what you're doing you then have to do the bit a bit which is called frapping which really tightened all of this up so to start your rapping I like to start with the bit that's about to go over take it over the top well then take it back under the same piece of wood like so ok so it's coming back on itself then you need to do simply start wrapping that around those those lashes that you've put in this is called frapping remember so and then as you're doing your wrapping this is the bit where you really do need to pull it as tight as you can and what that flapping does if you can just see in here is it pulls these in and it forces these bits here and these bits here where am i I'm off camera so it forces these bits here and these bits here together now you want to do that a few times I dependent on what you're lashing you can frappe it a couple of times and then you can start your over and under again and that would give you a really nice tight lash however I'm not going to call for that today while it's just a demonstration what that kind of thing is really just up to judgment so now as you can see it doesn't so much stop this twisting but what that what that does I'll show in a minute is it stops the whole thing sliding and it won't come apart so then once you finish your lashing you need to put yourself another clove hitch in she's really really simple to do just do a couple of half hitches if you don't have to do your clove hitch do check out my video on how to do it what I like to always finish off with a couple of half hitches or clove hitches really simple and there you have it that's your that's just square lashing now as you can see this still moves what that's not what we're lacking is designed to stop the squirrel lashing if it's done tight enough stops this from moving and I usually when you're doing a squirrel lashing you put another one next to it and then that really isn't going to move and this can be used for all manner of things particularly however for structures and stuff like that or you know if you've got kids you can make a mobile with the mountain forest or our loads and loads of different applications but there you go that's the squirrel I think this isn't the tightest one in the world because it is just a demonstration and it's a bit tricky to do it without moving off the camera so yeah that's a squirrel lashing so I hope that was helpful for you and as always please give me a subscribe and a light and a show around get out and give this stuff a girl thank you for watching you
