hi guys my name is force thanks for coming up and have a look at my blog this is my first attempted in a video and what we're going to do today is I'm going to show you how to make a mesolithic pittle then we're going to cook a joint of beef and a roast dinner in it here to help me today is my mate Dan who's got his own bushcraft channel he's going to give me a hug eyes I'll throw a link up on here for his talents you for your tablet combat as well so I'm going to do it in stages and we're going to start by showing you what kind of materials need to gather how to find a decent location so thanks for thanks when I look at it I hope you enjoy the video ok guys so the first step in making our pit oven is we got to make a pit so that involves digging a hole now we haven't brought any spades or shovels with us because we don't need them what I'm going to do is using this but award which is about the same maybe a little bit thicker than my wrist we're going to cut a digging stick out of it which is just used for breaking the earth not really easy to do to make you big and stick all you do you take your axe and you stick which you've got to make sure isn't rotten ideally you want Greenwood for doing this because otherwise just going to break a be a nightmare so take your axe and your stick and you're literally just you don't want to get it to a really fine point because it's just going to break if you do that doesn't have to be doesn't actually have to be sharp just flat take the notches off the wood so that you don't get blisters on your hands make sure it's decent sturdy it's not to ever to work with not too big and it's not too short and then you go those you're digging stick alright guys so we've dug our whole now so what the next step is we've got to line our whole with stones and we've already collected a few stones up here and what we've got we've got we've got some sedimentary rock which here is slate and we've got some evening Rock here I'm not entirely sure exactly what kind of stone mothers and ideally you want to be using igneous rock for this type of cooking or metamorphic because it's less prone to popping it's dense it holds the heat better and it's not going to explode grants in the fire now we are going to use slate because we're a bit strapped for choice the only thing you've got to be aware of when you are using igneous rock is because it's full of air pockets and it can split easily it can explode so if you are using sedimentary rock just try to kind of stay away from the fire don't be putting your face and it too much and be aware that it could explode okay so what we're going to do with these stones is we've now got up with we've already put a base stolen because this is a pic we've used previously and now we've got a line the edges of the pit let's start of try and get it as flat as you can and then once these rocks have heated up they will then reflect all the heat back into your meat which will be in the center okay and then once you've lined the outside you want quite a large piece of rock that will sit on the top of everything and you'll heat this up in a separate fire usually but you can do in your pit will show you that in a minute okay so as you can see now we've got the fire going inside the pit and we've also laid some extra rocks on top of the fire to heat on so our next stage now is to go and collect some moss which go which we lay over the top to create an ER seal which will show when the fire is done okay so what we're doing here now is as a roadie side would need to collect some moss to go over the top of the fire once it's burned down so we found this all dry stone wall which is absolutely covered in moss so what we've got to do is when you're taking the moss off you kind of have to peel it back so you don't break it you need to keep it in as big sections as you can so as you can see that's come off as a whole the that's not being planted there that as literally just come straight off the wall and I'll get some more from down here as well that's a bit thin it's usable these small sections are usable but ideally you do want to have a nice big section to go on first to create a nice seal over you over you Auburn Wanted's ready to go right guys so we've had all fire building for a couple of hours now we've just shifted a few embers over here to create a second fire which is actually where we're going to cook some Bannock bread and we're going to bring a couple of things up to the boil the water and this is all going to be really quick we're going to need to move all of the rocks just out to the sides we're just going to flick them out to the side scrape the embers through quickly over to that fire so they don't lose too much heat then what we're going to do next for us once all the embers are emptied we've got a selection of wet sticks here some Moss over here and then the leftover sod that we've dug up so once it's empty we took the meeting throw this hot stone on top of it then as quickly as we can we get these wet sticks lay them over the top of the pit then cover that with the wet moss that we've covered and then cover the moss with the dirt and the side that's left over which will create a nice airtight seal and we'll keep all of the heat in the next couple of hours because good things about an hour and a half to two hours for the joint of meat to cook what you're going to notice as well when we put the the final layer on top we're going to have to work again a little bit quickly just to plug any little gaps where you'll see smoking steam coming through once you've stopped those gaps you know you've got your pit of an airtight you know then you can leave it to cook so without further ado that's set to

read up stones there okay yeah I thought the weather you can see on the camera but the shower stones are literally glowing red-hot now I can feel the heat from this am I here so glad I've got these digging stick fighting cameraman there yeah we try to go for cameraman relatively quickly on my channel 8 that's great are we gonna fuck some bicycle I was going on in the qualifier dealers get our buyers reckon yet yeah I'll control the Tate is in here all right to read each other right that's good to get the meeting it up glowing stone that's what they sound like when they go one joint video make you do the honors stone yeah sizzling away that's how we know it's good after just a case of getting as much contact and the stones possible onto the meat there it smelled me cooking already now that we're all but the sticks edit it so the wet cooter gives you a nice tight seal and then this luxe luxe the cap it then now quite a lot the time when you're doing this you end up you don't have to have enough of this sod left over from where your dog because actually is because as you can see it's nice formal mound you end up with a largest surfer area surface area than what you started with so you get initially on stop most of the smoke coming out because the smoke shows you where you're getting air coming through and then once that's done you can kind of slow down a bit and collect some more to cover it up with what we actually seem to be doing alright why not we we're not doing too bad I mean suppose if you look over there are going to be making some beef jerky a little while I think under there there's another patch there well we've just dug up some of these suds so this is a couple get upstairs you're always going to get a few little bits of smoke and steam escaping but all that does is kind of make you hungry yeah as you can smell the meat but you can't we fortunately can so sorry about that guys no I think in Barry's things of me that's wrong to loop it over there that's a red hot style yeah it'll be picking up the red hot stoves just saw the safety here we go alright so meet that size probably about two hours and then we're just going to again quickly shift that over well we think the meats ready so in the meantime we're going to leave that cooking we're going to crack too with some other stuff just for watching guys thanks guys right guys so it's been what would you take father's probably about our 50 yeah someone that you closer to two hours always two hours so if it's five to four now so right and yeah it's starting to lose light so I think we'll get it out now you put your hand over there you push it down you'll start to feel it gets a little warm you can see such a selfish thing our car yeah so i think lee specialist person thingy then so just be careful because the squats did you come out yeah what you're gonna feel is sooo you start moving the top layers it gets very hot very quick

that's actually really hot yeah I'm the best thing to do that is actually if you just yep I'll never do you stick family yeah so he kept nodding him stay tuned until all the fire with someone out the way of it this way yeah all right so we know enemy is look at that look at that beautiful it's weird you can I hear how hot the rocks are still here I'm not there's only one way of doing this make football beautiful here we go you see that speak for a bit charcoal on the outside we don't worry about that no that can be knocked down you go right it onto a plate back over to a mess too I know the truth a my luck I'm gonna get a mouthful of string yeah oh yes oh yes oh like you'll just have a look in there look at that and this meat is so beautifully tender oh look at that camera man would you like a little piece of a taste to hang a little piece I'll throw your heart that's the first text i think i think he does doesn't he always hardware there you go cameraman straight in there straight of the pile ah that ah amazing I that I so go right South I'm it just talking over there but we've got a couple of the thing going on we're not choking on the taste of beef we're boiling up some water because we're gonna make some gravy any second and just in the fire here if you'd like to we've got some veggie on the girl if I can just put me lots of carrots hear that what very carroty from that side what you turn around you can see there's cooked all that just peels off nicely and and you've got nice tasty carrot there and underneath if you wanna have a root around meet for the rest of the bits and pieces we've got possible though we have got some jerk cooking in here as well that's what this little shelters all about Gordon is mate onions cooked in nothing but their skins they come in some sports just lacks in a bit of tin foil and miscellany install someone listen in action there he is hidin there we go the onions will be nice and caramelized on the inside the potatoes are roasted it will pinch that they're from the veg all their lovely and soft they are across the soft yes excellent stuff right well I think yeah if you could leave us to it just for a moment while we can prepare our excellent feast I think we'll show you the results in just a moment so I'll see you in a sec cheers guys alright guys so this is the vegetables we've just taken out the fire just to show you how they've come out we've got lovely soft potatoes there which are really roasted through the carrots were kind of a bit burnt on the outside but that is to be expected and all you do is you use kind of peel the outside off in the middle you've got lovely soft carrots and this bird looking thing in the middle here is actually an onion and what you do for the onions as I've already said is you just chuck them in the embers wrap to nothing but the skins they come in and then they caramelize on the inside and you can literally just peel the skin off and you've got a nice caramelized onion and ah that smells just unbelievably good that onion that smells so good so yeah we're going to finish making our gravy plate it all up and then we'll show you one last shot of what it's going to be what were we in thanks for watching alright guys so here is the finished article here's the melee we'll have a quick look in there gravy and carrots on that so I'm just glamour bit of a try one of the carrots I think start with i can get old other thing i feel like a child oh yeah let's try a bit of that mmm spot on for roscoes still crunchy kind of caramelize a nice try bit of the onion / foam there's no dignified way of eating these onions I'm she's got to be sad ah the news my favorite you've heard the verdict or verdict on the meat already roast potato try a bit of that ah sorry I've just got to show you guys look at the inside of that it's not the sport Oh cooked to perfection that's rubbed your seat in our of spot-on aren't they cheers fast cheers down oh thanks for watching guys if you've got any questions or comments feel free to leave me one ask many questions you want to ask and I have an email address on the blog website if you want to send me an e mails or have you got any suggestions for things you'd like to see me trying thanks for watching and reading and I hope you stay and the time I what I'm doing here thanks a lot
