oh hello hello and welcome to this week's kit recommendation and today we are going to be taking a look at this which is the Mora eldress which is one of the new knives from Mora I've been looking up to scent but have this sent out to me and I've been using it for a few weeks now have to say when I first received it I was a little bit dubious about whether or not it will be useful to me I could see why some people would might like it but I wasn't sure whether or not I would find it useful however having used it for a few weeks and tested it out my mind has been changed so before I talk about that kind of stuff about why I like it and where I think it will be most useful let's have a look at a knife itself so with this knife you receive a number of things obviously you get the knife but I'm actually going to come back to that in a moment because it's the main thing here you also get a sheath a length of paracord and a additional safety clip thing that it does is given a name honestly come and what it is and also there is a version of this available which comes with a fire striker as well I'm not going to go into the fire striker it's it's a Ferro rod fire striker we all know what one of those is and how it works there's not really much much point to looking at it so I'm gonna start with the sheath itself so it's a solid polymer plastic sheath just like we're used to with the standard more knives and one thing that I really like about this is it's um it's a symmetrical sheath so it doesn't matter which way in the knife actually goes so with the other mowers that you get and the sheath follows the shape of the blade so you always have to look at the sheath when you put it in obviously looking at this used a good idea but this is quite nice that you don't have to think too much about it just go straight in no risk of damaging the sheath or the knife the other thing to know about this sheath is that the bottom has two holes in it not just one and the point of those holes is to put the length of paracord through so the knife will hang upside down if you want to use it as a neck knife obviously there's a risk of it falling out of the sheath there they do loosen up over time and that is where this little safety clip comes in so it's got a good strong popper on it there would be the morel logo and I think it's made out of some kind of like looks to me like some kind of reconstituted leather it's a leather bit here and then a plastic bit for this loop just there which clips on to onto the sheath and not much to say about it it's pretty sturdy it's well-made it's riveted at the back to make sure it's not going to come out and there's another little hole there if you want to have the knife hung with the correct way up I assume that's what what that is for anyway so just show you how that goes on and on the back of the sheath there's two little divots here which correspond with two that are on the inside of that clip and it just pushes into place is tight well that's a good thing because it's a security clip there we go that's not in oh no I've actually pull outside down that's the problem let me try that again that's how it goes that way up and then that will just clip him there we go snaps into place it is quite tight it just snaps into place and then the knife goes in that clips over thing and that can't come out there because it's clipped into the sheath anyway and then it's got this additional bit there and it will be held as a neck knife just like this the knife itself is made from very good steel which is 12 C 27 Swedish stainless steel and it's ground three times so the main grind is a standard scan the ground white we're used to seeing on more knives but it also has a secondary grind at the end here which makes the cheap of the blade narrower and makes it really really useful for very precise tasks that thinner sort of spear point on that blade there the third grind is right on the top here which is a 90 degree bevel all the way along and that is for use with the fire strike now you can get this knife supplied with the fire strike and I'll just demonstrate that working it works very well actually is a really really good grind and you can strike all the way along it so right on the tip in the middle and right at the end there as well so that's good and that that 90 degree is on both sides so if you're left-handed it doesn't matter you can still you can still use it there the cheeks of the blade are branded so we've got the more a knife logo here and we've got the main Morel logo just on this side here the handle for this is really really nice it's a plastic handle but it's made from two parts we've got the same polymer solid polymer plastic for the main part the handle which holds the blade in place and the outer part of it is this kind of rubberized plastic material which is actually fantastic it's really grippy even when it's wet so I really really like that the shape of it is very nice as well it's got a really subtle finger guard at this end and it works very well actually that because your hand really grips it around it so there's minimal risk of you sort of slipping off and onto the blade happened to me with some knives before so it's quite nice to have that and the back of the handle dropped down so as you can see the whole thing just sits really nicely in the palm of your hand it's a very very good size as for the length of the blade I think it's a car actually remember that I should have got my notes out it's 53 I think 53 or fifty eight millimeters long on that blade so overall it's it's two hand spans roughly and it's a very very good size for a neck knife so overall impressions of this knife is that it's a good knife I was dubious at first but I am gonna continue using this which I'll get to the caveat to that in a moment so I'm just gonna go through some pros and cons of it pros obviously it's it's quite small it's well-made it's affordable really good piece of equipment and it isn't gonna break the bank it's very nice to have a small knife on you we all carry a big fixed blade knife but it really is very very nice to have a smaller knife I actually find myself using small knives far more regularly than I use the big knife there's a couple of things however that I'm not massively keen on the main thing being whilst it's very very nice to have that that night that severe 90-degree angle I'm not keen on it being right up to thee to the bit of the blade which meets the handle here the reason being this is a knife for precision work which means that I want to be having my thumb on it quite a lot for doing carving work and even down to this end here I want that personally I don't like that it needs a very severe 90 degree and when you put your thumb on it you can feel it almost biting into your thumb which every now and then it's not a problem but if you're going to be doing any serious carbon with this that is gonna blister your your thumb really really quite quickly so it's not a massive problem it's just something that I'm not majorly keen on I'd have preferred thee for my own personal use I'd have preferred that 90 degree grind to be just a little bit further down and then round at the top like a normal more a knife and the other thing is I don't like this as a neck knife like it is a knife not as a neck knife the reason being it is I just pop it on it's really chunky around here it's it's pretty thick at this point especially where that popper stood is it's very very thick and I find it a little bit cumbersome it's not like horrible to wear anything lower for a neck knife though I do prefer a slightly slimmer blade that's like my my been off and neck knife values so I'm not going to be using this as a neckline but as I said when we talked about the knife itself one of the big advantage of this is this rubberized handle which is grippy even when it's wet so for me what I'm going to be using this knife for is it's for what I'm canoeing if you've been watching any of my out about videos or sort of videos of my trips and video logs you'll notice that I've been doing a lot of stuff on the water lately and the problems on the water is when you're in and out the water you've got a cut line your hands do get wet they do get slippery whilst that hasn't really been a problem it has been something that I thought about my really nice knife by Liam Wynne spur knives is lovely and it's carbon steel so if it's getting wet it's going to rust and the handles gonna get slippery in my hand so it's not really ideal for having wet hands this on the other hand stainless steel with a rubberized handle which means it's very very grippy and also because it is so small it will fit really nicely into the pocket of a buoyancy aid or floatation device so that is why I like it that for me personally that is when it comes into its own so we go that's my thoughts on the Mora eldest now remember this is an this is a knife review a knife is a very personal item these are my own personal opinions of it and how I would use it obviously a lot of this will vary from person to person it's just a little bit of something for you to think about overall I do like it the biggest problem with all the people have complained about before I forget is the price of this and there are good reason for reasons for this I'm not gonna go into too much detail about it but one of the main ones is this is more difficult to make than the more a companion knives it's got additional grinds it's got more materials smaller etc etc so the price is a little bit higher I have seen these knives ranging from around the 20 pounds mark

50 pounds mark so if you shop around a little bit you should be able to get a decent price and to be honest 20 quid for a good solid Mora knife he's really good I've not even had to sharpen this year and I'm bearing in mind I've been using it pretty much every day for just sort of everyday tasks I'm gonna be serious carving with it yet but it's holding its edge really nice as well so you're not gonna have to be sharpen at every five minutes so there we go overall really impressed with it would recommend this knife well I wouldn't be doing the video ever didn't want to recommend it so yeah thank you for designing this mora oh also it comes in five colors we've got red blue green orange and black I think those are the colors I forgot to write that down on the notes okay so there you go guys I hope you've enjoyed this kit review hopefully a nice short one for you and if you'd like to see more videos like this please like subscribe share my stuff around consider supporting me on patreon which allows me to get in more equipment and test it and then hopefully want to start to get a backlog I'm gonna be giving some of that stuff away so support me on patreon is a good idea and check back in next week for my tip of you next week which is going to be on the elkay 35 rock side I know every one of these dogs reviewed them what I want to do one because I like the pack see you all soon guys and thank you all for watching
