hello everybody and welcome to another video in today's video following many requests from lots of people i am going to be doing some cooking and the day i am going to be using a couple of wild ingredients so i've come across a recipe in one of remedies book for a nettle soup and I'm doing it pretty much the same I've not tried this recipe for before so I figured I may as well try it out on camera at home so it's going to be a nettle soup just using toys knuckles it's early spring here in the United Kingdom or getting towards the middle of spring I think and it's a good time to go out collecting these metals so before I do anything the first thing that I've gotta do is go out and forage and two cups worth of metalheads that's my nettles collected I've got quite a quite decent amount in there and what I've done is I've just selected the tops of the nettles either the tenderest part i tend to find a bigger leaves when I've done sort of and that'll students stuff in the past the big leaves further down tend to get a bit pretty in a bit kind of like like there's a dirt on them now some of these do have a little bit of a little bit of muck and dirt on them so what I'm going to do is I'm just going to give them a quick rinse I also was looking enough to come across some wild garlic when I'm out which isn't in the recipe the misdemeanors book so I'm going to add some of that in possibly not all of that and see how I get on I might even try and make some garlic Bannock bread so my first thing to do is just just going to put a little bit of water on these so i can get the lid off my empty just a touch of water just to wash away any good i'm just going to leave them sort of soak in that for a moment whilst i head off and prepare the materials for my fire in a bit of a shake yup okay time to get the fire going

so folks now as those are cleaned themselves a little bit just give them a bit of a soak I'm now ready to add some water cliffs add a little bit more water to it and then put it next to fire to kind of simmer these for just a few minutes and what that'll do is that it will it will wilt the the spines and the Stingers off the stinging nettles so that when I eat them or come to prepare them later on when I chop them up they're not going to sting my hands or mouth I'm just going to prod these down a little bit with a clean stick get them on next to fire so I'm not boiling them just yet and literally just gonna simmer them okay as my Nestle's are just simmering what I'm going to do is I'm going to make up a very simple ruse or so I think that's recall now I don't made one of these before but I think the idea of it is you mix some oil and some flour and into a kind of sauce and that helps the soup to thicken up later so as a sec I've never done this before so I have no idea what to expect or what quantity to use whatsoever to achieve the desired result so I'm just going to go with that much that's what I'm going with so I mix the two together now to pop the fat flower away and then heat them both over the embers on the fire there that kind of looks like a source trying to get in there yeah I'm happy with that let's warm than on the fire so just as that source is finishing to soak through what I'm going to do is I am going to chop these metals slightly a bit of bit of woodland in there the one that I'm just going to chop them as best as I can out the original original recipe that I had said chop finely however I don't have a chopping board with me nor do I want to make one the idea of this was like I wanted to do it's like a one-pot meal use it truck not quite nice actually now it's time to add the rest of the ingredients so I'm going to add the simple now stick and sauce so that's going to go in I also have one vegetable stock cube we're going to crumble in one half of an onion and some instant mash just to really thicken the whole thing look that's all I could gather and last but not least some of those ransoms just tore apart and chucked in there now what I need to do is put this at the edge of the fire and leave it to simmer for a while so folks it's time to see ah if this is actually only good it certainly smells good but I think I probably should have been able to chop the nettles up a little bit more finely because they look when I've just stirred it they look a little bit gloopy but it's nice and thick possibly could on with a little bit more potato in it there we go it's good I've definitely old on the platter oh there's way too much back for it but it's really nice actually thoroughly impressed and kind of the main sort of flavors coming from from wild ingredients or things that I've forage which is good you know more I have a taster it get it's very hot done yeah it definitely should have been taken the stalks off the nettles having cooked with metal before I should remember to do that but it's nice it's good that I would for you ma'am hot and never let my food cool down some Admiral out cool a little bit that's very quickly recap the ingredients so one person it's two cups of metals and I've add a little bit of wild garlic as well I've got some instant mashed potato in the oil a little bit of flour salt and pepper and a vegetable stock cube with water and kind of in terms of timing like the recipe I got from the Ray Mears book had a lot of time and only I haven't bothered with any of that I just kind of wait until it looks like it's done possibly could have reduced it down a little bit more but I'm getting hungry and impatient so I've gone ahead and got it but overall it's actually very very nice there was a couple of moments was a little bit apprehensive about it then string your string the old nettles are definitely should have chopped them up next time I'll bring the chopping board mmm it is genuinely very very good so I'm not going to make you sit here and watch meet the whole thing that needs to cool down a little bit anyway and I hope you've enjoyed this video thank you for coming to watching the video and sticking with me I need a lot of practice at filming these cooking videos so hopefully it's turned out the way I wanted it to but we will soon see if you've enjoyed it please consider supporting me on patreon there is a link in the description below this video and if you go to my home page and look at the banners of the link there as well and if you support me on patreon I can basically do more content and better content and stuff like that if you've liked the video please hit like if you're not subscribed to my channel please subscribe thank you all for watching and I will see you in the next video thanks guys you
