you

hi everyone I'm a bit of a war today with the primary aim of restocking my tinder pouch with variety of natural resources which I can use for the process obviously of making fire and I thought I just take this a little bit of an opportunity to share with you the things I keep in my tinder pouch so the things that allow me to create heat which goes towards creating a fire before I get into the actual content to the pouch I'm going to talk a little bit about the pouch itself so let's have a look at that so the pouch itself is a design that I can't really take credit for I've got this design from predominately mcq bushcraft who's made it really popular you've not seen his channel I do recommend getting other than checking it out his level of skill and knowledge is it's basically incredible but basically I've taken his pouch and I've changed the design of it ever so slightly and I've made mine slightly smaller but the reason I've opted for this designer pouch is one it's very very compact and it sits right in the top of my pack and it kind of can move around a little bit and change shape with the pack and also I used to use the kind of standard fire tin method of carry all my stuff but I found that got reef frustrating constantly rattling around in my bag and that this style of pout doesn't rattle around in the bag at all and basically all it is is a circular piece of leather with holes punched in it all the way around which can be open up to reveal the contents and I really like that because once it's open like this for example Sam using the the Ferro rod I can strike into my tinder get the flame going and then pop that straight back in and close up without losing any of my my fire lighting equipment but also the design of the pouch itself lends itself to a few other tasks so it's this one is made from very very lightweight soft goat goat leather which can be used as a strop it's not the best rock material in the world but having an ice pack to leather with it is very very useful and the pull cord on this is goes towards one of my forms of violating so I've used paracord instead of the leather cords which mcq and a few other people use and I've gone with paracord because it this can be taken out and use as part of a bulge or set and the toggle I've used is a piece of Flint with a natural hole in it mainly that is just aesthetic but in a pinch I can use that with a flint and steel set but I've mainly put it on there for the purpose of actually it looking nice and yeah a piece of leather is really good i can take that off and i can put it over the top of a tree stump to create a working subsea I need a soft working surface and also I've oiled a leather I think it needs needs a bit of royal in but it's it's relatively waterproof as well water resistant so it keeps the content of this dry it's not got any tin doing at the moment that's what I'm out here to collect but I do keep my tinder in this as well but this video is going to be all about the methods of file item which it in this pouch so let's have a closer look at those and we go through the contents of this pouch in in no particular order whatsoever so of course you've seen one method of fire lighting which is the the cord which can be used for a ball drop so the next thing in here again another one we've already seen is the Ferro rod so it's a light my fire scalped Ferro rod I found these to be by far the best in terms of you know usefulness the quality of the ferrocerium and the cost of them I really like these like my fire fair odds we all know I fell rod I don't need to go into too much detail with that next in here I have a piston violating technique this fire lighting system and this is from campfire Pistons com I will link that place below it's absolutely beautiful piece of equipment usually don't store it with the rubber ring gone but I've been practicing with it recently so it's still it's just basically stayed on there I have a clicky later that one again is pretty pretty straightforward the reason I've opted for a clicking lighter is because it will it's easier to use frequently I find the ones with the roller balls on them if you're trying if you it was windy and you having to use your lighter and you constantly using it can start to make your thumb quite sore I have in here also a couple of pieces of flint and an old piece of wrath which can be used is still not the prettiest thing but you get some good sparks from it i also have a small tin for charring purposes which has some currently child cotton wool in there I've got a smaller or bagging your child cotton wall as well which sits in there and that means that I can get a fire going using these things and I can just pop some natural fibrous stuffing or any natural material really and get that charred up nicely the small tin of Vaseline really really useful it can be used of course for Colton cotton balls in in wet conditions to get those burn in for a little bit longer it's used as lubrication for the fire piston and also it can be used for its petites its intended use which is moisturizer for things like your lips I tend to find sometimes I get quite dry lips if I've been having to spend a lot of time blowing into the fire and it just stops you getting cracked lips when you're out about obviously you subject to the elements out here and that's really useful of course it comes in a little tin and little tins are always useful so once that's gone out I've got an additional little thin small block of beeswax again it can be used for you know Phi late and it's wax so it will burn but what I actually use this for is coating the cord for the bodrum so that just helps it be a little bit grippy I'm going to be doing a video on build your soon so I'll go into how that's used got a secondary later which currently is out of fuel what this is a little this is a really cool little gadget I don't really go in for gadgets but I like this one it's basically a smile fuel I must have refilled it basically it's a little petrol later actually I used to carry a zipper with me and this thing is better because it's sealed it's got sealed rim on it and it it kind of that little seal there and the fact that it's a fully enclosed unit stops the fuel from evaporating I've got small pouch which is one of the things I want to fill up today and that is used for keeping things like pine resin in or a little bit fat wood and it keeps it away from all of the other stuff it's just a little leather pouch that I threw together quite a while ago actually and that just stops it from getting all over my other stuff bit of old man bids liking in there that's just one of the natural resources I carry with me ok guys so that is a basic overview of the content of my fire kit she's just that here the closer look actually and so one thing obviously that's missing from this kit is the natural Tinder's which i carrying it obviously as I set up agin in the video I'm out here actually today to collect some some new natural resources to keep in there and that is something I want to talk about really briefly and it's really important I feel particularly for my style of doing things to keep your natural resources in your kit you might not always use them I've used them really regularly over the past few months been very very wet here in the UK and the reason for that is you can't guarantee dry materials when you get to a location where you're camping even if it's been particularly hot and dry so for example this what I mean now is relatively close to where I live but every time I've come here and tried to get a fire going everything around me all the natural materials seem to be just consistently wet and damp and whilst it is possible to get a fire going in those conditions and it's well worth practicing getting fires going those conditions sometimes it's just a pain it's just a faff and it's easy just have dr stuff with you to get your fire going and of course and i come in with us at beginning the video but that fire kit allows me six methods of firelight and what two of those methods of fire lighting aren't actually specifically contained within that kit that contained up here with my knowledge and skills and that is really really important particularly with the skill or file item your knowledge your skill must reinforce the content of your fire kit and not the other way around your modern Gear should not in my opinion reflect your skills and abilities if that makes sense so you should have a good working knowledge of various methods of fire lighting and how to create a fire using the things that you have got with you knowledge is always more important than kit okay so your kit should always reflect your noise I hope I've explained that well if people want to see a video of the natural things I keep in the fire pouch and the tinder pouch I can do one of them I've not contained it in this video because it seems a little bit irrelevant and I've got viewers and subscribers kind of all over the world so those materials are very very much dependent on where you are in the world so I've not really can have not really I've not really put that stuff in there but as always I hope you've enjoyed this video hope you've got something from it and I'd love to hear your feedback and thoughts on my kit and so yeah thank you all for watching and I will see you all in the next video thanks everyone
