Tarp configuration | For use with a Long Fire

Description

In this video I show a very quick and simple to set up tarp configuration for sleeping on the ground. Ideal for use with a long fire and great in spring and autumn in particular. Half of this tarp also acts as a ground sheet.

Shot on Cannon 1200d, Sony HX60v & a gopro Hero

you

hi everyone and welcome to another video so very recently one of my videos reached 100,000 views and that was the video about the creating a fully enclosed tarp shelter so to mark the occasion I figured I would do another tart configuration I know you guys look talk configurations so here is another one which is ideal for this time of year just coming into spring wind still a little bit cold but it started to be a little bit drier I really like this setup it's one I haven't used quite as often as I would have liked so the idea behind this setup is it gives you a nice wide view of the the outdoor so I'm kind of looking for the Sun now there's all the cosmos spiderwebs clothes really nice to sit in here and I've got shelter from the wind and the rain behind me and I've got a nice open from the idea behind that is I can have a long fire in front of me I'll probably place it about this mark here if I was going to have 1 i'm not allowed from a fire where i am today so there's going to be no fire in this video the idea is a long fire to keep you warm oh it's quite warm through the day in spring and also in autumn sits a good one to use an autumn so autumn spring it's warm through the day but then it drops pretty cold at night so this is a really ideal shelter just for having a fire going in front of you it's comfortable you're insulated from the damp on the ground you would you would need a Roma in this or one thing that I have done in the past is just shove a lot of leaflet underneath it and that's actually surprisingly comfortable yeah really simple to put up low to the ground comfortable to sit in and plenty of space for you and your gear under here which is important yeah it's a really really nice shelter so let's crack on and have a look at how we actually put this configuration together now the first thing that I need to do in terms of actually set in this type of iteration of it is I need to ensure that I've got a suitable area to put it on so I've selected this space between this birch tree and this birch tree and I'll pick them because they're kind of about the right distance apart they could have done with being slightly further apart but they'll do for the do for the purpose of today and the other thing that I'm checking is that there's nothing on the floor which is going to damage my tarp you're going to be sleeping wishing to be sitting on this going to be you know some repressed updates before the last thing you want to be doing but this is putting it on top of things like brambles and thorns because they're going to damage your tart so you know it's girly so there's better stuff on the floor here it's going to pull out some that get there Bracken's from twigs just clear your space a little bit and you know hang on to this stuff they like today killing two birds with one stone here you're collecting firewood and you're clearing the space

now my next step here is start arranging my tarp so before I put my ridgeline up I'm going to arrange my tarpaulin I could put my ridgeline up first but I'm actually gonna and we get my tap out first to kind of see where I'm working so that I'm not going to walk into that thing whilst i'm setting up the tarpaulin that i'm using for this before i get a million comments asking is a DD three meter by three meter tarp hopefully at the top if i remember to do it there'll be a rolling card link which you can click on which will take you to a review of this and i will try and remember to put a link to where you can buy this in the description of this video so DD three meter by three meter tarps a ship worldwide and i think they cost around the 40 pounds mark so what I'm gonna do is when we get this out shook the bag in my pocket always run where you put your bag and I'm actually going to arrange it back here so that for most of the day the Sun will be shining in

once I've align my tart I can begin pegging it out and I'm just going to start by pegging out central corners so I've got the tarp folded in half let's go need the ax to watch your back around so now once one peg is in at one corner we can just angle it so match the angle at the trees are it's actually about right there I'm going to put the peg in the corresponding corresponding corn rim now I forgot to hit record but I have put a peg in the central point as well just to give it a little bit of extra stability even needed but to be honest it's not entirely necessary at this point so the angle that peg slightly just tap it in for the ground nice and sturdy now once these pegs are in I'm ready to get my ridge line in and to start getting this kind of ready to go we're actually we're pretty much done with it it's nearly set up so let's get that ridge line up now at this stage if you want to you can begin pegging out your you're kind of groundsheet now I tend not to do that simply because I've done that in the past and I've actually knelt down on the peg that's pegged out so and that's quite painful so I've actually stopped doing that but as you can see I've left this side hanging down the reason I've done that is just to show you this something a little bit different you can do with this if it's a little bit windier which isn't ideal for this settles we'll get into in a minute you can actually create walls on this so as you can see what one side completely open and I've got one side dangling down now you can create these walls in the same way on both sides I'm really sorry about the dogs bark in the background they're very loud I'm not sure the microphones picking it off but what we're doing i'm just gonna peg this out now it's actually quite tight to peg this out it's much better be going to create these walls to have it really like drum tight so what we do for that is just pull this down and we're going to peg through here so now our shelter is essentially up now there's one last little tip i'm going to give you this and that is if you're expecting rain overnight when you're sleeping in this or just in general actually just tuck the edges in slightly simply because it is quite an open shelter and you can get a little bit of rain coming on the inside and you've got this ground sheet which is brilliant and waterproof but not only way to keep water out if water gets in it will keep the water in you feel the need to you can also double it up or one thing that I have done in the past is actually to use this kind of to double up as almost like a baby bag so once you're in you can

pull this over yourself self just as a bit of extra kind of rain coverage in it right in the back the corner there and that will just keep any moisture off you so guys there you go that is a kind of envelope style shelter designed to be used with a long fire hope you've enjoyed this tutorial I hope you've got something from it thank you for watching please like share subscribe comment all that kind of stuff and I will see you in the next video thank you guys
