hi guys all going to have a look at today is we're going to look at some proper knife techniques so how to use a knight correctly and safely and to demonstrate this I'm going to be using my more a companion carbon steel plate so the first cut will do so the first thing I'll show you is how to remove your knife safely from it okay so firstly the most important thing we need to remember at this point is how to remove our knife from its sheath parameter so I don't have this from my belt you can do this it was attached to your belt to purchase the video it's a little easy for me to show you how to do this when you're holding it so to remove the knife perform the sheath I grab my grasp the top of the sheath with my fingers making sure that I've not got hold of it around here it's not too much for a problem with these plastic shoes with leather shoes and solar on one side and they can occasionally and through the sheath and do some real damage to your fingers which can put you out of action for the rest of your so just grasp it around the pull the shoes and the knife at the same time nice and gently not too hard and remove the knife the same thing goes if you're using this on your belt these more knives have a really handy little thumb keys here so you can grip the knife by the handle and push it with your thumb and move it nice and safely so that's moving the knife so the first and most common grip that we used in bushcraft is the forehand grip you hold a knife like this with the blade pointing this is a really really powerful grip you can get good power behind this and make some moody cuts and if you really want to and you need a bit more put some precision you lose a little bit of power but you can put your thumb on the back of the blade and that gives you a little bit more control so when we're using this grip the safest thing is you sat like I am now you don't want to be working between your legs or leaning your face particularly between your legs you have your femoral artery you don't want to be caught in that that's a serious injury so the way I do this is I just keep my body straight twist my leg slightly to one side keeping my torso straight and work down to one side and using this grip we can get some good cuts through this and then as I said if you want a little bit more precision but you lose from that power you can put your thumb behind

simple as that you get a nice point so the next trick we're going to use is one that we very rarely use in bushcraft because we're actually going to turn the blade to place ourselves obviously you never never really want to be cutting to yourself well the reason for this type of cut is so that you don't hurt a friend who is helping you to make it cooked today we're going to use cordage there's quite a few different things you need to cook that requires help what to make this cut what we need to do is turn the knife blade around so the blade comes in line with the top knuckle of our thumb and then I like to tilt the blade ever so slightly back on itself so the handle is pointing to my stomach so that if I do slip that knife is going to come into my stomach or the other way we can do this is I can cut to my side just like so you've actually got quite a lot of control over this cut it's quite hard to do yourself any injury but please make sure that you're doing this correctly so let's just sure to see this from your action so bring that in and just cut to my side just like

that's that's the background so third grip we're going to use is called the chess lever grip and this grip has a four foot of power behind it because we're going to be using our chest shoulder and to make a cut so the way that we make this cut is return the knife so if the blade is facing our fist here and then support blade with your thumb and then bring it in so that you're going to be cutting across your chest so here's my stick I'm gonna be doing putting quite deep into this around stricted is not we have a lot of power in this this is very hard board around direction

what will happen now is it start to take wedges

our water if you're making a tent peg in this way this will give you a nice chunk of top make some splitting so another important thing to remember it's not nice another important thing to remember is life safety also applies when we're handing tools to each other which is not something we often want to do when we're out everyone should have their own knife occasionally it's important to be on hand at all to someone that you're camping with or working with and the way we do this safely with a knife is we hold knife in the forehand grip but then to hand it we turn this point all the way back on itself so the point is facing yourself and the blade is pointing upwards so we just move that over hold the knife between our finger and thumb so that our friend can quite easily grasp the handle the blade is pointing away from our palm so we're not going to cut ourself and the point is pointing toward you so that you're not going to stab or cut your friend so I'll just show you that movement again hold it in the forehand grip bring the points right over on itself and hold the knife between your finger and index finger there we go so it's impossible to me I'm also teaching my camera muscle some trips as well so anyway there we go so let's just have a very quick recap now of the two main cups that we use so the main one is the four hand Brit with the blade pointed towards the middle knuckles of our hands walking down working down and away from ourselves to get nice clean cuts and also you can put that film on there feel a little extra control and there you go that's a nice strong cook and the other main one that we use remember is our chest move a grip where we point that blade towards knuckles well fist bring the knife across our chest support the blade of your thumb and you can make really strong

just like so so the knife up used in this video is the horror companion carbon steel knife if you would like to see review of that I'll stick the link to this mate in the video for you thank you all for watching your continued support and keep watching for more videos thank you very much
