you

hello everybody and welcome to another video in today's video we're gonna be taking a look at the alter tour 55 backpack by Montaigne which is this pack here so before we look at the features of this I want to say I've been using this backpack now for around six months for multi-day hikes and for being up in the mountains I absolutely love it it's very very lightweight it's very very simplistic in its design but there are a lot of innovative little features on this so let's take a close look at some of those features this packs constructed from raptor zero fabric which means it's a nylon abrasion resistant waterproof fabric with a 1,000 millimetres hydrostatic head so it's not the most waterproof fabric in the world but I haven't had any issues with it yet but I do still carry with me a a waterproof cover for this and that's the only downside for this pack is there isn't a built in waterproof cover and I think that is it for the downsides of this pack but as I said you know I've been out in the rain with it and my stuff stays relatively dry and I keep everything dry bags anyway the main compartment is a single 55 litre compartment with a roll top lid which can be rolled down just like a dry bag and fastened either at the top to itself or can be fastened back down to the main pack just using clips that are on the side and have them on both sides it's a single compartment so we do have inside there a space for a hydration bladder and there's a hole just at the top the label angly h2o the obliged to come out it comes out really snugly so it's not going to keep styling back in and on the straps we do have things to clip it to some little rusticated piece here and there's a little little elastic a two piece on this side depending on which side you would like it on the straps themselves can be cinched tight just using these little straps here these little webbing straps so it really hugs your back what I also really like about these is when you walk in and people you see people when they've got their thumbs in the straps I find that to be a little uncomfortable actually because these are quite long and they've got these loops in the bottom you can just hook your thumbs through that that's really really useful we

these quick access pouches on the strap as well it's a really really excellent use of the space on the straps there the stretchy so the really reactive to whatever you put in this even you put in square stuffing it works very very well and they're reinforced at the top with elastic and we have that on both sides and again they can just be cinched tight to wherever you want nice using straps and they pull really smoothly just the the actual straps themselves are really lightweight they've got this kind of foam mesh covered foam construction and the foam has little holes in it so they're really nice and breathable so you're not gonna get sweaty sort of strap areas on there and we've also got some little loops there for attaching things like GPS devices whistles stuff like that I keep my GoPro attached to it the sternum strap I really like the sternum strap it's so simple it just snaps on to this little kind of plastic rubberized plasticize clip here and it doesn't come off it's elasticated so it's nice and breathable but then to undo it we just pull that toggle and it snaps off and that strap can be moved from underneath the pouch just using this little daisy chain construction here and it can be attached anywhere where you want on your sternum some people want it high some people want it low moving down to the waist strap the waist strap can be since tight just using this buckle here and rather than having to mess around with it we just pull on those two straps and it cinches it in evenly which is really nice on there again we've got some of this reactive stretching material which is great to keep the power pack to mobile phones I keep her like my little point and shoot camera in there or a snack bar or whatever just a useful use of that space and they've got nice wide opening wide opening pocket so you can fit quite large things in there because that is a stretch material and again we've got that that's a webbing covered or mesh covered foam construction there again so that is very very breathable it's a very breathable pack I really like that

the black construction there is no frame but if you pack it correctly it's a still a very comfortable backpack I haven't found it to be an issue there's no frame in this tour we've got this ridged foam these rigid foam packs here pads which have holes in them again mesh coverage so just allowing that air to move I haven't had a sweaty back in this even once and I've been out in some pretty hot days so it just goes to show how well this construction that works the size of the pack we get again got that stretching material I love this stretching material it's found throughout reinforced elastic so you can put things like water bottles Maps all kinds of stuff in there very very secure they hold things in tight and you can fit awkward shape stuff in the sides of the pack can be pulled tight using this zed configuration here this is edge shape configuration with this webbing so if you've got a lighter load in there and you want to make the pack smaller it's really easy to do and it sits comfortably or you've got a very heavily loaded packing you don't want stuff to move around you just pull all of that tight and it holds everything in place that construction is the same on both sides the front of the pack we've got daisy chains from the bottom to the top which also have a little hole in them so you can attach extra things to there you know all a little bits of pieces of bobbins dogs that go on on your pack when you're hiking but also attached to these daisy chains we've got loops for your - poles or ice hat axes which are removable so they can be moved up and down to suit your needs so we've got the wide ones at the bottom here and the small ones at the top have a little toggle on them the bottom of the pack something I love about this is not something we see in a lot of modern light weight backpacks is we've got a system for cinching it tight again just like at the size you want to reduce the construction of the pack but also you can attach things to the bottom I tend to keep a roll mat at the bottom there or something like my tent or whatever and that just cinches in really nicely the weight of this pack is around 811 grams according to their website when I weighed it it was a fraction less than that but mine is the smaller version of the pack if you buy it directly from the Montaigne website it comes in about 100 pounds but I got mine from Cotswolds at 80 pounds but it was on offer at the time overall absolutely love this pack it's become my go to pack for mountains and hiking so multi-day hikes I can fit like a week's worth of stuff in here no problem

tend not to use it when I'm out in the woods because even though it's got that abrasive abrasion resistant fabric it's still not robust enough to be like smashing through brambles and you know getting twigs and stuff snagged on you it is designed for hiking lightweight hiking so yeah there we go the montane ultratour 55 backpack highly recommend this one I will drop some links into the bottom of where I got this from and some links directly to the main specifications of it I hope you've enjoyed the video I hope you've got something from it thank you all for watching and I will see you in the next one thanks guys
