In this video I demonstrate how to make and use a miniature swedish torch. the process is reallly simple and requires only a few dry stick and something to bind them together with. this method of making fire is excellent in snow, wet weather conditions and for areas where there is a limited supply of fire wood.

alright guys I got another quick hot seat today another bit of fire lighting what I'm gonna be looking at today is a variant on the Swedish tour tour the finished candle different different names I've done a video on it already which usually is a very large round season log with a cross cut into it and it's use the platform to to start firing its self burning what I'm going to do today is kind of make a miniature one using smaller sticks inside it so the whole thing should be about this large in total and it'll give a much shorter burn what should work on the same principles it's not something I have used a lot I've done it a couple of times but I'm kind of with my new camp which isn't where I am at the minute but when you come from edging a little bit more towards that because it will limit the amount of bio values so let's have a look how we make these pine not work brilliant finish you see that different color that is that wood so I cut myself seven sticks like this all of roughly equal length and diameter something a little bit thicker and then all those some a little bit longer than others but only by a fraction and I've also cut myself a small slightly thicker section deliberately thicker section which is going to act as the base inside this little stove

so just quickly before she well so I've got I'm going to show you attempt to show you what cross sex of this would look like so this is what's going like on the inside okay so we tied up gonna be a little bit neater and these stylistic small and what this bit here does it provides me with just here I have a small piece of brown which I've taken most of thorns off it might be still a couple on there but we'll see how we get on so now what I do is I'm going to drop this thing so the construction of this can be admitted ly a little bit fiddly but bear with new art so do it and what I need to do is I need to get this central piece set I'm gonna actually be slightly higher up just while I build and I'll push it down I'm done set into the middle of these sticks and I'm gonna lash it just kind of bracket using the bramble that I've got so it's quite hard cuz obviously let go that it's going to fall so what I'm going to do is I'm gonna start by putting the bramble underneath so get it at a halfway point like so the halfway point of the bramble sorry now chosen green bramble to you because it's not going to burn through me quickly because obviously it's you know it's full of moisture so I'm gonna bring this up fit my next piece in this which that's it very fiddly now bring that over there it's starting to move around a little bit now I've left of the central thing slightly high up for the time being and what I'll do is once the whole thing's made I will push that right down to the bottom so just cross my bramble over kind of took one piece underneath the other I'm not doing it too tight to start with because I want to begin the construction first and then I can add bits in as I go along so that bran balls tightly bound around there now trying to keep it all neat said it is a bit of fiddly especially since I'm doing it on the camera so I'd work from behind myself and I was good to start fitting my additional pieces in just adjusting that bramble to allow them to fit grumbles quite yes I was genuinely tossed off

the last piece oops okay so I can now start cycling grumble up and thankfully the little centerpiece because it's a bit loose as acids drop down on its own accord their bottom that's what needs to be tight to hold it in place not as tight as I've liked it to be what it will do if I wanted to make this really neat I could use a piece of wire but I prefer to use nuts or stuff as I'm where I can because then I can just discard it and I need to know right away whereas I can't discard or I shouldn't discard rather less natural materials like paracord and wire and string them bits and pieces like that

it takes much longer to put them in a slightly longer piece of bramble actually what never mind that's the way it goes that's the actual stove itself constructing us a little bit and even on the top and liked it a little bit more even what does it matter we cut everything perfect because that isn't the way it works so what I've got to do now is just to start loading this with my birch tinder and something to light it with

so what end up for today just to speed things up a little bit and to make it'll be easy it says Oh dip using the camera I'm just going to use a bit of cotton wool pulled apart hopefully it should be enough so that's gonna go straight in that's bottom it's a one piece out down little bit too much available see how we get on

I also have in my pocket secret ingredient a tiny bit of soy ice and forest just of going on in the background there

couple bits of fat would drop in it was going I'm suicide

keep that it's in the pocket dry and then I'm gonna feed in some of my birch bark kindling so what's left to do for me now is to light this so I'm gonna light it from the side whoops using little spur bit of cotton wool I had leftover I'm just gonna pop that in at the side there dropping things and then using just a normal bic lighter on a pocket to keep it dry it's just like that

yeah then watch the cotton balls with I get my birch kindling and gently try it insert that too I don't get it go in get nice and hot everything's quite wet so it might take a minute just about going so that's the fire going and all I've done it's just I probably won't need to know and but I just put on a little bit of wood just to really keep this flame going if I need it I have made it a little bit wide but anything let's do now is to get up for it one so it's a little bit wonky than I would have liked so I'm hoping my kettle set on there nice and sturdy but let's see how we get on
