hi guys whilst dinner's cooking on our Scotland trips what I wanted to do is just give you a quick review of this and what this is is the grunts floors Brooks wildlife hatchet and it is by far my very favorite tool so I'm just gonna put the head the the cover on it to start with and show you how it comes when you buy it you so all of them come with this really nice leather leather top on it I've never had to replace this one just getting a little bit battered at the end there I've used it for hammering pegs and soften but it's otherwise really nice it's a very cleverly designed ax cover it buttons in place just around the back like so fit absolutely perfectly and it's riveted here so that it's not going to comment on it was a lot of the axes I've seen similar to this don't have any of this bit here they've only got this section here which has a tendency to come off in your pack or get lost really easily so that is the that as a cover for it's got a nice sturdy brass press that on there as well now the ax itself it's got Hickory handle which is your general kind of wood for traditional axes but it's actually really really good that the shape of the handle in itself it's fantastic a lot of the exes I've seen have a much thicker handle which makes them a little bit unwieldy but this one is really really nice and comfortable in your hand and it's also got this little notch at the end which is great because it gives you something to grip onto when you're if you really need to swing this ax you can also hold the actually comfortably at the top here like so if you want to do any finer carving with it like so so these axes are brilliant you can get an absolutely raise a point on them and use them for making shavings and you can use them for sort of heavier heavier carving and you can also if you're really good and you've got a really good edge on it you can make feather sticks with it now this axe does need a little bit of shaft at the moment because it's been used quite heavily over the past couple of days it's still in good working order now the axe head itself is made from high carbon steel if I just come a little bit close to the camera

I want to show you each ax is stamped on the back here with the initials of the blacksmith who made all of these axes are handmade they're not mass-produced which really says a lot for it and they put a lot of work and effort into them absolutely fantastic and on the side here we've also got the grand spores stamp itself what else was going to say about this ax oh yeah one very very minor downfall is you can't hit much with the back it's like putting pegs and things in or a billet in wood with your knife that's great but you can't hit anything too hard on the back of this particularly a hammer or anything but you don't want to be doing that with most axes anyway always make sure that the ax is designed to be hit metal on metal that's gonna give a quick demonstration of how much this how easily this afterwards well my favorite music for it is a splitting down small wood like this now this is green what I won't use it on the fire i'm using it to equip our supper later on but you cut you can cut through bits of wood like this really simple with this ax not a lot of axes I've used don't allow you to do this so you can cut straight through like so you have a look it gives you a really nice clean cut and that clean cut comes because it's got quite a narrow blade on it which is something that a lot of the axes miss out on many of the axes I've seen are pretty much only really useful for for splittable because the blade on them is much wider this also has a convex edge on it again a lot the axes I've seen used have the scandi grind bevel on which I don't really like a lacks is much nicer to have the beveled edge on it it's a little bit hard to sharpen but it's well worth the effort so this this grants for grants for zach's is really it's my absolute favorite tool for all the trips us up i've been on it's gone beyond being a tool for me i'm not a massive geek about my toes with this ax comes everywhere with me it's a real companion we're about doing bushcraft things so I highly recommend it as the Grand Falls brooks wildlife hatchet nice and small fits in your pack easily it's really lightens for very

versatile absolutely fantastic acts they come with a lifetime guarantee which I will never need to use you can see this act has really been through the wars it's got a bit of charring on the back there I only had to sharpen it a handful of times and it's still absolute perfect working order that that head has never come loose I've never had to replace a handle on it I'd never had to replace the cover and it's never rusted up on me I've only actually at two sharp in a handful of times there you go guys if you're going to go out and buy spend some money on a really nice axe go for one of these it's fantastic thanks for watching
