ESEE Izula | Custom G10 Scales | Field Review

Description

Krik of Black Owl Outdoors reviews the custom G10 scales from The Knife Connection for the ESEE Izula 1. Adding significant girth and weight to the Izula's handles, the G10 allows for more comfort during prolonged use of the ESEE Izula. While the scales are a bit pricey, they are $40, they do offer a dramatic ergonomic improvement of the Izula.

soft turtles Creek here with black outdoors today I'm going to be doing a video when the SE is Ola this is an updated sort of review that I've already done a review on the SE as it comes from the distributor manufacturer what's different for this video is the addition to these g10 handle scales which were purchased from the knife connection for around 40 bucks I think and the knife itself the Azula coming is around 40 or 50 bucks this is the desert and color combination or just yeah option powder coating overall length of the knife six and a half inches blade length two and a half inches drop-point design flat grind knife itself weighs two ounces the few of these new scales and hardware raises the weight of the knife to three point three ounces and which definitely favors the balance to the handle but for this small of a knife the balance isn't really that important to me for what this for the handles increase the sort of you know girth and how comfortable it makes the knife in the hand for extended periods of use the extra width really makes it important and why these particular scales were bought from the knife connection is they pretty much fill most of the say void of the skeletal type handle they come down really close to the handling little bit of a hole for you know wrist whatever a lanyard and that's why these particular ones were purchase and they also because they look really cool with this at the desert and knife and it is a survival quote you know neck knife comes with this injected molded sheath in my opinion if you're gonna have a survival knife as a neck knife sort of like a last-ditch not ditch but you know your glass knife you'll have everything goes wrong and this is neck knifes the only thing you have they should be able to perform certain ways and do certain tasks if you're really going to need it to so I'm gonna do some cuts and show show it in action right now and because it is a smaller knife just the way the mechanics work it's going to require a lot more of your effort to get a cut because of just the the size of the knife and the less weight and mass it has but by positioning by holding it against this log and bracing it with my arm in my bodyweight I'm able to really control the cut and get like the most most output if you will for the energy I'm expending to do a cut and it really makes a difference if you're gonna be holding a small knife like this for a while it's taking a spark off really easy I can put some more behind it if I really want to sort of chunk into the wood and say you know I wanted to put say a notch in this the really specific cut really precise where I want it sore just go dig out his spot what would have a notch already so here I'm going after you can also get these small of small shavings coming up be used for helping for fire as well now say you know you are in a survival situation you get a fire going everything's wet and say your idea or style fires to put on little pieces of wood like I have here and to get small pieces of kindling that are dry and since it is a full tang you know it's high-quality 1095 we'll see it should be out of a time it's really nice it's really fun cutting this little toy knife do it one more time I wanted smaller pieces for my fire yeah it works works nice comfortable really like the way the scale is improved like I said being really comfortable in the hand we're gonna be using it really controlled better in my opinion
