Estwing Leather Sportsman's Axe • Hatchet Field Review

Description

Krik of Black Owl Outdoors reviews the Estwing Leather Sportsman's Axe, more commonly known as a hatchet. Endorsed by the Boy Scouts of America and nostalgic for many people, the Estwing Leather Sportsman's Axe is a work-horse for the price. Coming from the factory with a sharp edge, although it could be a bit sharper, it is ready to tackle your backpacking, hiking, camping, or bushcraft needs in the field.

good day Turtles Creek here with blackout outdoors and today I'm going to be doing a review on the S wing sportsmen axe or hatchet this hatchet retails for its $34.99 something around like that it's a single piece of forged tool steel and running the length of the handle the handle is made out of stacked leather which is really comfortable in my hand

so I got a lot of grip but the stacked leather just means or it's referring to theirs they place rings of cut leather kind of down the handle and then through a series of up wetting it saturating it letting it dry it shrinks to the handle and it's just it's coated with a laminate I'm not sure exactly what the coating is what's really nice about this is that it comes with a leather sheath which seems like pretty good quality my only gripe with the sheath is that on the back of it it says Made in Taiwan having this being made in the United States this s wing I don't know why the sheath I want to read his made in Taiwan to me it just doesn't sit well but either way it's quality it has a little carving some oak leaves and acorns but it's nice

this the cutting edge right around I think three and a quarter inches and it comes pretty sharp definitely comes sharp from the factory but because I like to sharpen things I put my own edge on it made a little bit sharper yeah it's an affordable definitely an affordable acts I've talked about before another review other videos that I don't like really large knives and when I purchased this hatchet it was kind of in mind that this would be doing like something a rat 7 would do similar lead but I wanted to hatch it because it's just a little bit more versatile than a large chopping knife and right now I'm using this to take down a bow Steve I'm in the process of attempting to make a bow for the first time so we'll see we'll see how that goes but I'm using this to help shape the Steve getting down to a rough a rough shape before I let the wood season so keep you updated on that and let you know how this continues to perform but it's look this is a you know tried-and-true design it's been around for a long time s wing you know it's poise counts really promote promote this hatchet and for the price it's really unbeatable I think you know it's tough its quality for the price it's a very nice nice hatchet to add but yeah now I'm just going to do it's a little cutting with it swinging around show you some of the product in action actually take take this money now you can use it two hands to get a little bit more control if you want or you can you know really get in and swing it if you want one handed over your head but it's not necessary and it's really going through I'm not certain what type of tree this is but it's going through it you can see just it's going through and just these a couple of swings I'll do it do some worse

made light work of that tree and for safety reasons I would recommend and I would if I'm doing a lot of chopping or cutting just to wear safety glasses that kind of wrap around my eye because the last thing I want to do is get a small piece of wood from flying off of this and hitting me in the eye bad news bad news all around that happens and on the back there's just not quite a hammer head but it's definitely functions functions like one these are the pounding stakes you know hit anything with it and it will definitely work so this is my review but the S wing sportsman's axe leather handle this is correct signing outback outdoors Gator Turtles
