wassup Turtles this is creek here with black outdoors today I'm going to be doing a video on finding and gathering some fat wood and what fatwood is is really super saturated impregnated pine wood in the genus pinus that saturated with pits or SAP or resin any of those terms are interchangeable for the sake and its really great fat what's really great for getting and maintaining fires in really wet and in damp climates I know the people when rain forest really love it for that reason you can actually purchase fatwood online almost broken the small kindling stakes or you can come out in the forest and find your own and that's exactly what I found here today I've noticed there's pine trees blown down which is going to be a really good really good a potential to find resources for this fat would because we're fat what occurs on pine trees is where our branch meets the trunk that's been broken off or when a tree breaks and the stump and basically what it what's happening is the tree is sort of trying to scab over a wound so it's sending resin SAP pitch to that area to protect itself against you know bugs disease all that stuff just like our body would try to scab over a wound and right down here i found myself in this precarious situation climbing around these trees to look for this fat wood there's some right down here in front of my feet where this tree was bifurcated where it was standing I was fell down and hit hit this hemlock right here where it's bifurcated and I'm sort of a futile attempt on the trees part to send SAP here to try to heal this really heal this large wound but there is really saturated wood in here and I have a screwdriver that kind of helped me sort of pry apart prior parts of it get down there without falling over there's a great piece and this is not what fat would really looks like if you want to buy fatwood from from one line source this is not what's going to look like it's going to look like wood more of a wood this is you can see all this I hear this yellow that's pitch and the brown is that the wood and this is like gold fatwood super super saturated there's a piece here's some more just peeling off and there's a lot of it in here I could really go at this to spot all day and try to collect this would but i'm not going to because this is a like i said a really great resource excuse me a really great resource and if anyone else would have come out here and look for a fat would I don't want to be the only one that hordes this really cool resource and I know I don't need that much of it so I'm going to leave some in case anyone else comes out here and wants to gather some for themselves all this down here that I'm running see it all this right here this would be all great resource that go after but like I said I pretty much from what I gathered so far it so much all I'm going to need for my personal use I'm going to leave all this here and to show you that it actually is fat what I'm going to take a lighter to it and i'll show you it taking up flame try not fall that's holding a flame and this is wet right now you can see just the resin in there just keeping this lit almost acting like a wick now if this was just a normal piece of pine wood that did not it was not saturated with with resin it would not light up like this and you can take my word for it try to lay up another side right here my ex would be too much resident on this one this piece right here it's just boiling yep

anyways this is fatwood this is Kirk sounding out with black outdoors later turtles
