Krik's DIY Bush Toolkit Prototype

Description

Krik of Black Owl Outdoors shows you a DIYprototype of a modified toolkit to take into the bush on an average day hike. While it isn't necessarily a survival kit, or a bushcraft toolkit, it offers Krik the ability to transport his tools and essentials from bag to bag without forgetting anything behind.

hey what's up Turtles its Creek here with black outdoors and today I'm going to be doing a video going over a kit that I sort of carry with me it's not an all-inclusive survival kit or a quote bushcraft kit but this is a kit that I carry and that I've assembled to basically be able to grab from and and put in bag to bag as I need because stony and I come out I have a lot of gear I need to test out and use and there's a bunch of smaller ticket items if you will that I don't want to look for every time I'm switching bags or coming out with someone different you know just all that so I put a kit together and I actually built the pouch that it's in and I just wanted to go over share some of the things I carry y-you know and ask for your input of some other great ideas that I could be carrying with me all the time using but basically this is the kit that sort of all-inclusive and allows me to do a lot of different things and pretty much anything I need to do out in the forest on a day hike out for the day so right now actually this is not complete I don't have the pouch complete right now I just have a piece of paracord wrapped around it because I haven't come up with the fastening system I want to use yet that's okay it's got piece of paracord right now

and basically what I built this all out of is just scrap material that was lying around the house this is Jean this is denim just from old jeans I had and you can see a felt present right here this dark patches felt and this felt runs the actual entirety of the pouch it's sandwiched in between a denim piece of a layer of denim on the outside and a layer of denim on the inside so this felt in-between this which gives a little bit more padding and structure but basically getting into it like I said these are the things that I want to be able to carry with me when I'm changing bags I'm going out for to test the new bag out test new gear I'm switching bags a lot as as I test out new gear and all that stuff and these are the sort of items I want with me all the time that will allow me to do most things and I can set this bigger ticket items I'll pack for the day appropriately but these are the smaller ones that I don't want to have to look for and fussed with all the time because I've definitely misplaced these numerous times I get started and one of the four pockets I made I have just as my compass just a little felt pouch I made it's just my compass has a mirror on that little button fastened I made with that really simple hand sewn pouch super easy in this next pocket I have fair same rod just seen better days I don't have a striker attached to a knife in here that the spine is squared off it's a funny story behind how that got all chewed up in that same pocket I got a multi-tool and why choose this multi-tool specifically is because of the saw can do a lot with these little saws notching actually cutting down bigger pieces of wood all that and there's other obviously useful tools on here over here and this one I just got a whole bunch of just small pieces of paracord and actually some different cordage and yeah I could have carried it you know bigger Hanks but I like using these small pieces and also cut bigger ones down I can put a bend in these and have them super strong not worried about that if I need a lot excuse me a longer length over here I got Altoids which is in there right now a couple bands on it okay this is the one I use to make fat would see a bunch of brittle pine pitch in here I can reconstitute this by putting some heat to it and have the pitch back into a usable form make some more fat wood glue pitch glue I can take with all this out make char cloth with it use your imagination that's these metal out towards containers are really awesome to have on the inside I got a Mora

which I have the actual spine squared off on this classic one that I use for the pharisee rod right here I got this this is squared off its part of it for the first sparks because I need to clean that up a little bit and for you know some smaller whittling wood task work whatever I got that more also hey I'm kind of blade have you got the SC for the fixed blade if I do potentially want to put on some small piece of wood anything like that always want to carry a fixed blade for me personally a full tank fixed plate I always like to have that regardless the moor is a nice there's plenty of days I'll go out with just the more but nonetheless since I have this kit I'm gonna be a little knife heavy

I built this long enough excuse me to actually accommodate that the bahco laplander folding saw I don't have it in here but it's big enough that I can carry a folding saw in here and a piece of shambo material use your imagination what this could be used for it's really great really great for fire-starting actually cut off the square and pull these fibers apart almost acts as like cotton ball but works really well just have that in there and some birch bark I think this is a mixture of a might be some river birch and yellow birch in there and that's basically it I can do a lot with this like I said this isn't a complete complete survival kit or a quote bushcraft kit this isn't everything I carry this isn't everything I carry I can still fit more in here this is sort of a light a light kit I can switch from bag to bag without looking for these things I know what's in there I can do a lot with them and this is the pouch I have these four pockets that will accommodate each wall combinated out toys container a bigger main compartment here they said this is unfinished I might put a couple loops up here to be able to attach a longer ticket item and I wrap it over and stony and I are even potentially talking about getting some so maybe thousand D or some sort of nylon and potentially making some of these I made this almost on a sewing machine myself with with no pattern just doing off my head out of my head and trying to transfer it to the real world so if maybe something we might get into is may be designing prototyping or type of kits pouches if you will but I'm sort of proud of myself I think is pretty cool first one like I said no didn't know uh no pattern not going off of any other design just straight off out of the dome not finished but I think I think it'll work really well and should show it should hold up pretty well for me mmm

and that's basically it if you've any suggestions any other things that you think I should be carrying with me all the time like I said this isn't a survival kit keep that in mind there's still other items I carry that quote will be for my survival as the data pens but these are the sort of smaller ticket items that I'm not always looking and fussing around for trying to find everyday excuse me like I said hope this is cool hope that's cool video I'm really proud of this pouch remember check out blackout doors on a Facebook on our Instagram blackout doors I comm everything we're putting up all the content online right now thanks for watching

this is Creek signing out with blak our doors later Turtles
