Ava soaked Turtles it's creek here with blackout outdoors sternly and I are in the Allegheny National Forest right now in Northwest Pennsylvania and there's a there's a plant i wanted to i want to share with you that we saw on our trip it's right next to me which is growing really tall and it's very characteristic of this plan this is Mullen common name Mullen Latin name for fast axis and I believe there's only one species of this entire us anywhere you see this anyway I've seen this all the way on the west coast california to all over the east here in Pennsylvania where we are and this is a really cool plant for a couple reasons I just want to actually point out now that we're in the caliga national forest and there's our hint a slight hint of a natural gas in the air because there's a lot of refineries a lot of well as around here so it's kind of a weird thing actually right now I'm done in the middle of nowhere and I can smell natural gas just in the air floating but with moving on folks are horrible today this is Mullen it's great for a few things and stony if you can try to get close on the camera I want to okay try to pick up the sound it's really dense velvety almost p.m. pubescent leaves and this is really good if you're looking for natural toilet paper if you will you can use this it's nice will not irritate irritate you at all you can also dry these leaves and make a tea and at one point that that tea was really popular for lung ailments and I do have a book actually with me I know this plan is I've identified I thought using the book but I just want to share but it's really nice to have a guides with you all the time to pick out or potentially try to ID potentially try to ID a plan and here i have i'm going to share the paragraph that it has with you really quick on it here's a line drawing of it by any approaching al obras out of leaves in the first year and a stout stalk topped by club like flower head in the second which you can see this club like flower had really dense some of these flowers or open seas white

these yellow flowers large leaves densely woolly gray-green upper leaves taper into stem as you can see here got really large leaves at the bottom very large very broad as I get to the stem they get smaller and smaller until they just turn into the into the flower head or inflorescence you could call this as a cluster the flowers and where this is found is poor fields waste places and you know flowers are made of September and you know you might think that you have to be in the middle of forest undisturbed areas to find plants that are useful but that's not the case there's a lot of plants and sunflower family in the Astor family that love disturbed soils dandelions cult foots all of those things in the Astor family that love disturbs disturbed soil meaning like roadsides where we are right now and Mullen is one of those as well love's disturbed soil so you know granted we have to think about that you know you know the ground quality of the water quality if you're in a city urban type environment if you're going to use a plant to ingest it but out here in the forest mullen grows all around the roadsides along with other flowers but this is just a plant I wanted to share and look how tall this is growing really big really noticeable much taller than me anyways this is Mullen as it use you know you can use this to wipe yourself if you're going to be doing number two in the woods or you can make a tea out of it dry the leaves maybe I'll do a video and actually doing make me tea or to Zane with it at some point in the future this is Creek signing out with black outdoors later turtles
