hello hello hello and welcome to another video today's video is gonna be another kit review for you and today we're gonna be taking a look at the snub package stratosphere 250 bag I was giving this baby bag about two years ago by my good friend Fraser and it has become a very well used piece of equipment for me don't use it on every trip but I do use it very very regularly so a few things about why I like this before we get into the details of it and baby bags are great however one of my problems in the outdoors is I hate the idea of books and things pouring over my face and I know that that is quite a normal thing to talk to expect in the outdoors and actually it doesn't happen as much as you would think but I really don't like the thought of it and this baby bag whilst it is just a bitty bag having that hoop bit over the face that we'll see later is a really nice added bit of security and also if you are in very very bad weather it's a nice alternative to a tent it is essentially a very very small tent and it worked excellently if you use it with a tarp or and as well earlier this year I this up in the hills in the middle of winter and I created like a ten out of my tarpaulin and use this inside of it and it was absolutely like the perfect setup I was enclosed and I also had an another space that I could use so it was very very nice flat looking at this in the case as you can see it's very very small and it is very very lightweight it comes in about 30 centimeters across I think about written down here 31 centimeters by 14 centimeters according to the website where I got it from and it comes in this nice nylon waterproof stuff sack so you can have it on the outside of your pack as well it compresses down quite nicely and it's very very lightweight it weighs in at one point one kilogram which is next to nothing when you compare the weight at the tent that I use to use it's a fantastic temper less than three kilograms so very very lightweight and in here is the poles and the pegs well this is everything in so yeah it's really nice it compresses down it fits perfect on the bottom of the bag I can even fit it on to this day pack which means that this day pack now if I'm using this I can I can pretty much go out and do an overnighter in it as well goes up very very quickly so if you're in a bit of a rush you can get it up really really quickly and the stuff sack is just the right size there's not loads of extra space in here like I finally a lot of things it fits in very very nicely so I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and put this up and show you how quickly it actually goes goes together and then we'll have a look at the features of this when it's actually ready to use [Music]

here yawn and this is the Bernabeu constructive so first of all let's have a look at the construction of it the upper section and the lower section are made of two different fabrics both nylon this is 70d nylon and this is 50b nylon I don't entirely know what that means what I do know is that the bottom section has a higher hydrostatic head at 7,000 than the upper one which is at 5,000 which is more than enough to keep it dry and it means if you want slightly damp ground

nothing's gonna leach through the bottom of this here the sames the seams throughout it are completely taped - they're really really nice waterproof so you can use this on its own without a tarpaulin with a little bit of a caveat without which I'll come to in a minute and we talked about the zips it's held up by these two two poles of the back here which are both aluminium poles they are color-coded so we've got a green one here which corresponds with this back band and we've got a black one here which corresponds with the front band as well the zipper which opens it up just all the way around which is really really nice because it means that when you're getting out of this you can open the whole thing up to get in and you're not having to kind of worm your way into it like you would do with a sleeping bag which is really really good

but that caveat about using this without a tarpaulin comes into play when we're talking about these zips so about a year ago I was using this without a tarpaulin it's a pretty pretty high a pretty heavy rain and what had happened I managed to get quite wet inside it was I left these baffles here that you can see here open it's really important that you see all those over there made from that same 70d nylon that the base is made of but the zip obviously is locked and lots of little holes and what happened is the rain cooled in this and came in so it's very very important that when you're zipping this up once you inside you close those baffle down baffles down nice and securely if you're not using it with the tarpaulin after learning that I've tried it again I actually tried it at home with the sprinklers on in the garden and then I tried it again in the rain and it worked brilliantly not a drop of rain came in once you get to the top however that is less of an issue because this battle is already in the way it's much wider and as you can see as I zip this up it does it does it does cover that that a zips area meaning that stuff that water isn't going to get in and then down at this bottom end here which is just slightly out of shot they are overlapped so when it comes to actually sleeping in this in this baby bag and there's a few ways to combat me inevitable condensation that you're gonna get first of all on the back here there is a vent that is the only bit that I ever really peg out I'll come to why that is in a moment also if you're using this with a tarp a really fantastic feature of this is I'm not sure I can do this from the outside but I'll do the best I can there is a secondary layer here that zips into it so basically instead of this this sheep coming all the way up there's this mesh sheet here which makes the whole thing really breathable around where your head is while it's still keeping the bugs out and a lot of people think that this wouldn't be very spacious at all it does look very low to the ground but weirdly once you're inside it actually you have got plenty of room to move around in this I use this with quite a thick therm-a-rest which does bring my head quite close to the top but it's more than manageable and I have never once felt restricted or claustrophobic in this it is very big and it's really long as well easily if you're over 6 foot you'll fit into this with room to spur on the inside here as well one feature that I really like for this absolutely fantastic little addition is this small mesh pocket which zips up here it's quite a large pocket actually and usually in here I put whoops using my head torch phone my little neck knife goes in there and if I'm wearing one my watch goes into here as well the whole thing zips up and then it's really accessible you know exactly where it is it's over the top of you so folks there you go that is my overview of the snowpack stratosphere baby bike really really fantastic bit of kit as I've said I've been using this a lot regularly in fact for the entire year this is what I've been out and I used it when I was on out into Sweden I've used it up in the hills in the Lake District I've used it on quite a number of little old nighters as well as a few courses that I've been on as well this year it is an absolutely fantastic bit of kit one of the things I really love about this piece of kit is if ideal for use both in the woods and when you look in the hills in more open environments it's great keeping the wind off you if you're out somewhere open but you don't want to be lugging a tent round it's really really fantastic for that and my only real gripe with this and it is it's a very minor thing is that it comes supplied with these lightweight titanium pegs they are lightweight each one weighs like just literally a couple of grams but the problem with them is the tops of them here the the really unpleasant to put in you have to kind of put your shirt over the top or a couple of layers or ihat or something because the shape of them so I've got them for the purpose of today's video because of the pegs that come supply to that they are snug brand new ones but I tend to switch these out for different light weight pegs and that is the only problem with them today it's fine because the grounds nice and soft down here in the woods when I'm up in the hills if the grounds hard or rocky these up awful to put in and they Bend really easily as well don't like these pegs generally this back bit here and I tend not to take that up to a tarp so it's nice and open so when you've got that vent completely open with this front vent completely open you have a bit of a breeze like we have today that breeze sweeps through the whole thing and keeps the whole keeps the air inside fresh and it stops that condensation getting through really really fantastic bit of kit really really well made lightweight compact and very very versatile so you go snug pack stratosphere tubes Bibby comes in about 129 pounds I think with a snow pack website can you shop around there'll be some variety and prices there so there we go thank you all for watching hope you've enjoyed this video highly recommend this piece of equipment if you've enjoyed this video consider supporting me on patreon so that I can do more reviews like this and get out more with the camera and stay tuned for the video that will be coming on Friday which is part 2 of my Sweden adventure much later than I planned it to come out thanks guys
