Sweden Canoe Adventure Part 3 | Sailing!

Description

In this video we reach the Dalalven national park, build a sail for our canoes and see some ospreys! this was by far the hardest day of our canoeing adventure. a full solid day of paddling against a string head wind, but well worth it for the sight of those ospreys! Plus the sail looked pretty bad ass

This day was a great opportunity to really use the axe that we had carried with us both for constructing the sail and for splitting down much needed firewood at the end of the day, not only that but our bushcraft and wilderness skills were really put to the test in terms of navigation, knot work, paddling and shelter construction.

What a fantastic day to be on the water.

is morning for two more for both morning of our Sweden trip and I feel like this morning

ever since we're really smooth because everyone's just class settled into stuff so we've gone through our usual morning routines of getting that stuff hung up on washing lines to air them out Charlie and Brian are just getting the fire going over there so I'm getting my stuff packed away so I can do some more things later and not have to worry about it and this morning we're going to have eggs and porridge for breakfast which sounds appetizing worst night's sleep as a trip last night someone wants to kick my sleeping bag off in the night which meant that I wasn't covered by anything other than the thin the thin bivy which was unpleasant but it's alright just I've woken up in this stunning still in location

Peach's bring in the canoes round or the last of the canoes around we would pull them up on a beach just over yonder she was a bit easy to get to because you couldn't actually get to this point yesterday the water level has risen so we can now pull the boats in here no it's not bit easier to load the canoes from here here we are so it was all pretty much packed up before morning 4 on the river very very efficient morning this morning everyone's just fallen into the routines we've got three thing quickly the only thing that's holding us back a little bit now is everyone needs to go poo so I've been Brian's currently there I think Charlie's up next and then josh josh she's gonna go and drop one as well so we're just getting rid of the fire circle now doing the whole like Leave No Trace really saturating the ground she's really easy when you get to the river so just more water and it's necessary on top of it mush it all looks throw the ashes into the woods cover it all over with debris and leaves and stuff like that and we took some dirt out to cover that over with so when we've gone the only the only sign that we were here is gonna be the little trail that we've kind of tread through the through the undergrowth which will come up on its own again naturally one thing that I am finding is with the way that I've packed my kit and something I need to revise for the next trip is I can't finish packing until the fires done because I need my Billy pot back in my bag before I can pack the rest of my bag I'm pretty much done but I can't I can't finish because I've got a Billy pot so that's something to be to be aware of and that's why on the Spay they kept all the cooking equipment in one big separate bag probably to you so that is totally something we need to do in the future yeah it's going really well so far I'm kind of sad to leave this spot this is a really nice spot isn't it this is app so it's my favourite spot so far we didn't really suggest it so much as we chucked you out the boat and said go find a spot all night look I only just spotted that look at all that resin coming out that split in that tree there's loads of it rock on get some you got someone to put it in a bit high for me so yet today we are about we're gonna as of today I'm gonna be doing a lot more filming because we're gonna we're hitting the national park today so we're well out whaling way out of civilisation today we haven't we saw one person today didn't we

well here one person kind of wandered out of the woods sign a picture for a bit and then left yeah the side of the river and well today we're gonna we've literally on the river straight into a rapid and then we're pretty much in the National Park so we've got a lot of distance to cover today today is gonna be a long long day of just paddling overall from wort until we get to our campsite then tomorrow tomorrow we're gonna paddle until lunch find a campsite at lunch in theory unload the boats and then paddle up to where there are beaver which should be good going really well everything's running really smoothly so so far very very good trip everyone's still in high spirits sweden hype I think we're all feeling a bit kind of tired and raggedy today there aren't we but I'm alright I feel good but like my body's feeling a bit beat up well hey how are you crest there you crowning just rusting up again as we've done every day fine it's just nicer to be rusted the whole time so all together rather than all separate but it's always a bit of a faff in the morning getting it rafted but I think we're getting it trusty shemagh to stop all the water coming in and we've had to put the waterproofs on because it started to rain this is a bit rubbish I'm hoping it'll help I'm hoping it passes do hope it passes it's a bit miserable when it's raining this was our campsite last night saying goodbye to that now day four on the water and a little bit of a turn-up for the books

we've traveled further than we thought we had which is quite nice and we didn't camp where we thought we'd camped last night so we're actually right oh no yet who did we thought was a gap in the matter we told was getting a map but it turns out that there isn't so what we're doing now is we're gonna experiment by putting a sail onto the boats using these things that Charlie's bringing along now and a DD 3x3 tarpaulin which hopefully will be a lot of fun and get us moving really quite quickly we're all struggling a bit before we add this realisation that we don't have to just slog it all day we thought today was gonna be a really really long long hard day but actually it's midday we've not even had lunch yet and we were where we wanted to finish the day so we can just press on a bit more which is very nice we've got some nice pyres going on here we've not none of us have ever sailed canoes before I've done a very small amount of sailing many many years ago so it could be interesting don't know what's gonna happen have you read Lord of the Rings yet Josh [Music]

as you can see we've watched the two spokes together like a catamaran and then we've got this structure at the front here which is what the tarp is going to be quite soon close it could be two people to back behind the sail and see people at the front they aren't really gonna have to do so yeah it's all Steve from the back control looking good my looks will be cool [Music]

[Music]

so all rigged up ready to go hopefully it's gonna work that's not how we're gonna steer it or if it's gonna work at all well it's we put it together now the time has come set sail literally we are using the first goods that we have left [Music]

the sale didn't really work did it well no it didn't work did work but we realized that our point of direction that we need to be going on wasn't what we thought it was so we ended up having the sale pointing into the wind trying to go but we've had lunch Brian's sort of it a bit of a wall are you feeling Breyer you said you'd hit war Charles how you feel Josh you're happy he good right yeah have we picked on you yeah we bullying you it's surprising because I was like nah kid this morning the coffee at lunch makes a big difference today I'm feeling the shoulder pain trying to hold my camera like this though no no goblin stands mate

that's what we we have wrong shoulders for the throwing bones at people so yeah good day so we've took the sail down here is looking a bit sad at the minute weather's brightened up a lot for a zone so we are stopped for a bit of a break a much needed and well earned rate I think on a field of victory we have just paddled across some of the Tropius water with the wind in our faces but just under an hour to get here and it's beautiful here it's just really windy out there isn't it ridiculous it looks so peaceful from here doesn't it how did you feel about that charlie we've got in sync on the rowing Joshy how did you feel about that right absolutely awesome but it was hard work and fun yeah I'm gonna call Josh's bits out the video because he's bored and miserable he's not he's not gonna pretend he's not here well folks we have successfully completed day four on the river and day four was extremely extremely hard going we have been battling the wind pretty much from the start of the day we got down some Rapids early on unfortunately I didn't get to film because my GoPro has a run out of we're out of battery but once we got through the rapids we basically had in North International Park we are now pretty much dead center of the Darvin National Park which is beautiful is known around for miles however the wind has been coming at us from the north all day so we're all pretty battered and broke and it was extremely hard going but we've got a beautiful place to camp even if even if it is a little windy josh has got dinner on the gum and today we are having Thai green curry with tuna in it mr. chicken but you know Sheena worked a bit better Charlie's currently moving his settle because he's not happy with where it is but he's getting all the smoke I was gonna quickly show you the setup I'm using because I've not shown you it yet on this trip so here we go it's become a very play one of mine I've got a plough point set up using the DD super light top with the slug pack stratosphere bivy inside it cuz I don't like bugs crawling on me in the night and it's great for this because the wind is coming to like one side of it so I'm gonna be the one who's out of the wind type yeah it's a very very windy camp my peers will caught the Sun a little bit today as well for my face there yeah they everyone's in good spirits I'm getting a bit we would get a bit cranky earlier with each other but it's all part of it that's what happens I don't love you mate it's just it's just what happens on a trip you get tired you get cranky Brian's lost his spoon there we go cutting this but I'm not cutting this out well yeah let's just just have a look at this campsite though it's so worth it because we'll just look where we are

absolutely beautiful surrounding our water on all sides absolutely stunning

so folks me and Josh are just sitting out here admiring this absolutely incredible

incredible

what time did you say it was 20 to 11 at night so it's not been going dark while we've been here the Sun is literally like spitting below the horizon and going back up again in the morning just quite nice absolutely stunning country
