oh and welcome to another video in today's video I am back in what is actually fairly sunny Cumbria today and today I am gonna be climbing Glen Catherine which is just over here so playing Catherine is a pretty popular mountain can't remember the height of it straight off the top of my head I'm sure that will have just appeared on the screen somewhere and I'm expecting this to be fairly easy walk I haven't done this one before and I've kind of even though I'm not one of these people that likes to bag some it I am getting a bit of a book for it yeah so this is one of the Wainwright's and according to Wainwright the route that I'm taking is the best route of any mountain in the United Kingdom and if you use mountain so I'm inclined to believe those of you who don't know the way - so followers overseas he was a famous Hill Walker who wrote some books all about Lake District and the Cumbrian fells and before this is before I think standardised mappings mapping was really available I could be completely wrong about that well basically he wrote a lot of books a very very detailed and give detailed accounts and all little roots of the different Lake District fells the Lake District is a place in England northern England which is full of lakes as the name would imply and mountains and felt so fell is basically a local of northern term English term for a very large craggy Hill so that's what I'm gonna be doing today I'm just going through my usual pre-warp routine of making order so that's the last night which is now under the car but there's usually a few extra bits so because I work outdoors a lot of the equipment I use does get used day to day so before any war portrait I really need to make sure that everything is in order I'm also getting just a last bit of juice in my phone which is going to track the route using the wonderful audience survey app and getting a little bit more food than myself as well so I just had like I'm halfway through one of these weird like protein shake things but I finally keep you going early wealth and they're really nice so before my walk start what about to cook one with all my scent stars I've got about two kilometre walk and in that direction I don't know which direction that is haven't taken any bearings or anything yet compass I just Mel the directs of it I think that's East that way yeah that'll be East so I basically got a skirt the foot of the mountain I'm gonna come up the other side and I'm gonna return from this direction over here so a fairly long walk in terms of distance up in the hills it's going to take me at least half a day to do it however the hard bit is getting up onto the summit of this one because it's really steep when you step onto summits so fast on this walk it's like less than a kilometre or pill right for the top so yes it's pretty pretty pretty fast I think this is the summit summit just back here not entirely sure it could be completely wrong I said more than this before but I'm really looking forward to it start with a nice walk down the river yeah it's good so I'm gonna finish getting my stuff together and [Music]

or folks I'm almost at the top top is just up here let's part of my last part of my ascent they're just a little bit crumbly it's not too long but it's pretty short steep straight up onto the top and then it's this rich brown do you'll stop me see where get some water and food in before I do this as you can probably tell it is pretty windy today but this is a nice spot just chop the water proof on scoop so that wind off me job it's not particularly cold but that wind and I am a bit sweating up with these kind of I'll probably take it off again to do this climb so far pretty easy but a nice jolly little walk up here really Pleasant scenery all the way up nice sort of gradual incline and then there's this bit which is like straight to the top the summit is just over there to dawn so the route to the summit so I've kind of already compassed the summit I've hit a point where I was almost on the summit by carried on going because I really wanted to do this route first but the group up here is much more direct there's another path going off just behind the camera here which takes you pretty much straight up so from the top of sharp edge here and it's like

a kilometer maybe and then okay always going on with Nikolas Wow okay I know why the Colusa so on so it's time to be self again now it's around here somewhere and is it this because I can't find it I don't know whether I'm gonna be able to film my assemble this it isn't it is pretty windy and obviously common sense says I have to put my own safety first before filming if I can I will but it is in a minute it's gonna be my last fire as you're here so I don't know what this is but there are like it is windy and the wind is coming from that direction which is one okay there's some people there people growing up and a few people coming back down as well so see how it would get on yet should be interesting annoyingly what I was going to do was put my GoPro on the head mount but when I was packing last night I could not I found every single piece of GoPro equipment that I have except for the head mount I could not find it anywhere so I'm very sorry about that fortunately the most exciting part of the climb video but I'll tell you what it was like anyway may the decision forget the the dweeb hot out again sir it's not cold that wins really got a fight in it so I feel a bit more comfortable at this scramble now just been told it's only a grade one and they're the creep gawk in Snowden's far worse and I don't know like a few times I might just start bringing this little camera because it is so Magnus guys running running hmm this is on Facebook now just rock all the way off hand to rock type stuff looking forward to it nice views got some nicer wind [Music]

so this is what we're making my way up it's actually not too difficult there's a tough bit coming up over here some people just finishing off but I'm pretty much I'm pretty much halfway up there thank you you can see just drops off on each side of me though parts are a little bit exposed but it's really fun I absolutely live for this stuff thoroughly enjoy it there's a town where I've come down from so if I send it really very quickly I honestly I find these bits so much easier physically there's so much less physically demanding just have to think your way through it and kind of stop and pick your route pay attention to what you do instead of filming it probably but I've got I've got a nice pot holes here so it's nice and safe to do a bit and I'm nearly over the top wonderful absolutely love it and if I'm lucky I might be able to find a stock cover P up here because I'm absolutely desperate this is a properly busy mountain even like midweek there's quite a lot of people fish I haven't been able to find anywhere to go for a pee Oh horrendous right I'm gonna press on case this wind picks up anymore I want to get up to the top this storm it's just over there behind me somewhere over there yeah having a great time I absolutely love scrambles I'm live for it amazing this bits gonna be interesting ouch like like stray oh there's my feet so wish I had that GoPro head mouth this would have looked really cool on that warming up a bit now as well this is on wrong across the valleys there love it

there you go you can see what I've come along and yes pretty it's a pretty sharp that I see what's called sharp edge it's fun I really enjoy it when starting to whip around at the top I can just hear it behind me there over here these fantastic views never ever shows up quite as well on camera it doesn't real life so anything you can do just get up here try it for yourself amazing

oh good old oxygen or bugs are there anything to submit it's very windy up here I've just been stopped out of the way they're out the out of the wind waiting people to move on so it's very very windy stunning views all the way around check it out [Music]

so what a little climb up relatively easy oh let's get out of this window nice little shaded bit here so yeah it sort of fairly easy climb up I think that this scent is going to be a little bit harder because I've made a decision to take a slightly more direct route down to shot actually see the route pretty much all the way down to the bottom it disappears for a little bit which concerns me a touch I'll show you it now anyway so little Ridge here is the way I'm going to descend so actually just look too bad on that it's pretty it's pretty straight down that is but down there that little flash of white you can see is the river I had to cross earlier so that basically puts me pretty much straight back to the car I took that view though it's absolutely incredible sorry guys I just have to keep showing you it's just so good amazing so yeah a couple of people have said don't go down that way but I don't know how experienced they were I am going to risk it from where I am currently it looks like there's paths most of the way and apparently there's some quite scrambling bits where it's a bit but I'm gonna go for it I'm gonna try it I'm gonna give it a go so yeah I can see why Wainwright likes it I mean the views are just amazing right overhead now and I want to try get to Apple side before the shop start to close which is why I decide to make this fast route well that's not the only reason for I just kind of fancy it a fancy bit a bit more of a challenge I enjoyed that sharp edge coming up and I can't see this how ears are popping always my ears popping in the wind I can't see this being any any more difficult than that it looks like it's down flat down and then flat for the most part so yeah see how we get on I see if I can film some of it for you if not I'll see you at the bottom so this is actually proving to be quite a challenging fun but challenging descent I like to come down this yeah she's not far from vertical but I think as long as you take your time with it it's not too bad there's playing a little footholds you start to really think about think about what you're doing I'm enjoying the challenge it's good fun I'm just under half way now I'll show you so curious to see what the other side of this is that drops off pretty sharpish there thankfully this wind is actually helpful because it's a pushing me against the rock which is quite nice and the poles are coming in very very very useful as well I can just stabilize myself with them a couple of times it got in the way a couple of times I struggle without them so a little bit of everything right now press on so that's the peak up there and I've descended through this which from here doesn't look too bad but it's pretty it's pretty steep and it's all rock it's very family be a nice way to climb all that weary fun sort of easy scramble to climb up if you new to it and I don't know what these ahead of me I know it gets pretty steep after this but it does appear to be getting less rocky I've now landed on this path here you can see and that appears to continue along the way the views are still pretty amazing stunning absolutely stunning join the camera around a little bit on this clip sorry about that pretty high off as well but I'm dropping down really fast which in itself can be a bit of a challenge because I actually find coming down off the mountains to be more challenging than going up going up let me get a bit sweaty get a bit out of breath but coming down I get real like proper jelly leg coming down it which means that every step you like were aspectos you've got the weight of the pack on you as well and your whole body's coming down on one leg at a time I think that's what caused you to ache the following day but it's nice time just take it nice and slow coming down now from that peak up there it's just absolutely incredible appear I've got to show you the view again I have to check it out it's amazing I can literally I can oh you don't want to look at my chin that much yeah I can literally like it I can hear the wind hitting the side of the mountain but it's quite still where I am I'm getting the odd little gust and the sun's really come out now this afternoon but I'm about to keep my dweeb hat on cause it's just the winds got a bit of a chew it does give me a headache wonderful love being up here all right spit windier this bit so that's the really splendidly very hear the sound [Music]

so folks I am officially off the mountain

look look with the summit now doesn't look that high from down there but it's pretty high at the summit there it is just up there in the distance then windy up there

I now have to get across this again which actually looks slightly lower than it was earlier so overnight we had a lot of rain overnight I thought I was gonna be out in the rain all day today even what the weather was like last night and that filled this sort of little river up this morning when I was coming across it but it seems to it seems to be draining off the mountain so fairly quickly so I'm gonna get across this head back to the car and wrap it up oh I'm glad to be back at the car today very very warm down here now it was not warm earlier this morning I am ridiculous this way so I had to wear this waterproof for most that height just to keep there with sweating and the wind that had just got very cold very quickly

here's a shot for all those people who criticize the Crocs there is nothing better to put on your feet at the end of a long day's hiking than Crocs I don't care if you look awful well that's another mountain dog back in the car again yeah today this camera I keep this little g7x

the more I get used to it the more I love it it is so useful you do so much with it zooms it in so ya been playing around I'm learning that filming on the descent and the ascent is very very difficult and there's no need to learn about but my navigation skills are getting pretty good so overall I'm pretty happy with that and I hope you guys have enjoyed watching it if you have leave me a comment and a like and a subscribe and until next time I will see you all in the next video thanks for watching
