Gregory Baltoro 70L Backpack | Field Review

Description

Krik of Black Owl Outdoors reviews the Gregory Baltoro 70L Trekking Backpack. Although the 70L is an outdated model, Gregory now manufactures the Baltoro in 65L & 75L models, little has changed in their ruggedness and construction. The Baltoro goes with a slightly heavier nylon material to provide a more durable backpack than many in it's class. Today a lot of people are obsessed with ultralight, this bag is not ultralight, but ultra-durable. With 70L of space, including a separate sleeping bag compartment, the Gregory Baltoro will afford you plenty of space for you camping, hiking, backpacking or bushcraft needs.

it's up Turtles prick here with black outdoors and today I'm going to be doing a review on the Gregory baltoro 70 liter pack now this pack is no longer made in the car nation that I have it now this is a couple this is this is some years old Gregory has designed a 75 liter to replace the 70 and it retails the 75 liters over $320 I think but when this was available for purchase it was I think 290 dollars but I actually got this one sale because they were making the new packs I got this I think for at least a hundred dollars cheaper than its MSRP so it's one of the reasons why I bought the pack because I'm always looking for a deal always looking for a bargain and I found it with this pack and it's a top Lee our top high rated pack so now I'm just going to go over some of the features of the bag and I'm gonna start at the bottom just working my way around it and go well I have had this old yoga mat that I bought I think for $4 you used yoga mat that I use as a bed roll as some insulation off the ground but what's keeping that one on my pack is the system and I have the tarp in the same system these on the bottom of the pack it's all this blank nylon you can do different arrangements to different setups with it which is a really cool feature I like about the bag and what this is directly attached to on the pack is a sleeping bag compartment which is right here and this is a zipper and it's a tape tape zipper and it has this flap over it as well to keep water out which is important because you do not when your sleeping bag to get way and the zipper runs the whole way I have my sleeping bag in here it's definitely a large enough sleeping bag a sleeping bag compartment to accommodate a big down bag if you're doing winter camping for a big sleeping bag a little pack down is small definitely plenty of room in here

flip it over get on the hip belt system this is Gregory's active fit active suspension response which basically means that this hip out here and here are not attached behind here on this lumbar pad their independent moving of each other and what I really like about that is when you have this bag loaded with about you know 50 pounds or more it'll sustain loads of greater than 50 pounds is that when you're moving around you're hiking you're lifting a leg up to get over a log or a rock or twisting and get around a tree that this supposed to keep the weight more centered on your back and not feel like it's going to throw you off balance which in my experience it does absolutely wonderfully it's another reason why I decided to to get this bag now on each hip belt there are small little zipper pockets you can see that they're nice they're a nice little touch they always seem like they're just a little too small for something I want to put it like my camera got a little trail friend and that one didn't even realize it they always seem like they're just a little too small but nonetheless they're effective pocket on the hip belt nut which is nice when you're hiking to keep things you know you can grab your hands without taking your pack off on the side here we have this this hideaway water bottle pocket which the mesh comes in through the pocket and there's a zipper and then you can hide the pocket and then it comes out when you need it and this is angled towards bumps okay if this is on my back this is angled towards me so if I'm driving a bottle with the pack on it's easily accessible for me instead of having it straight down which is harder for me I know if I've got short arms or just I'm not flexible but it's always been hard for me to grab bottles out of a pack I went straight up and down but this one's much easier since it's angled towards me it's a great nice feature and then on the other side there's this a stash pocket just as flexible material you can put it it'll hold another water bottle or you can put you know rain jacket and or rain pants or anything you want in here it's nice

and let's work on the front down in this front part of the bag right here there's a side zip pocket on the side and it's seer my hands move it in the bag runs up to here it's a pretty nice sized pocket I don't use it for too much it's because of all the contents inside the main compartment of the bag I'll tend to push this pocket and kind of conform it and anything straight or hard in here will push out the bag but it's an outside pocket which I like there's a these velcro little clasp that you can take off the bag if you don't want them just to hang hangers secure items you're putting on the pack there's ones on each side and involve more I have my drinking cup just take that off and make them all these Louise there's the other side pocket zip down pretty nice sized pocket I just have them I just like my ring pants in here nice pocket I like having outside pockets on one of my bags again taped seams and there's another one on this side which my hatchet my swing hatchet is covering there's another pocket here and then there's two so two straps on to each side of the bag it'll help compact the bag if you want to you're putting smaller stuff in it you can get it really tight and control the weight and you can also use it like I was just to secure things to the outside of the bag let's move to the straps the shoulder straps there is an adjustable sternum strap that runs you can adjust it up and down

obviously I don't I don't use this too much when I'm hiking just cuz it doesn't feel comfortable across my chest but I really don't need it and actually these pads underneath

I guess this other part of the strap that's connected to the bag they're held on which is just an interesting different feature there's a lot of padding on these this bag weighs this bag weighs 5 pounds 9 ounces and as I'm showing these features we need to keep that in mind and this is what contributes to the weight but also everything being heavier in this bag and kind of more robust allows it to carry heavier loads and it's one reason that's another reason why I got like the bag is just that the weight capacity it can it can handle and then there's tensioning adjustable shoulder straps here to get the bag really secure to be unjust once you have this one justice down on both sides a little bit a little bit of a kind of a cavity right here Valley a trench which so you know will mildly aid in air airflow when you actually have to tackle on

it's not like it's not it's airflow friendly as some of these new packs I'm seeing that have them have a mesh screen here and then it kind of cuts into the bags you have this pocket where your become the pack is and it's not touching your back which is supposed to aid you know an airflow and stop sweating but I don't know I don't know how strong they are to me I just it's not my style that I just I think like they're gonna rip it's it's just a piece of mesh like the way I throw my bag around or put it on things that I particularly not fond of it but I've never tried it now I've never used it so if someone has and they have good things to say or a bad thing to say be really curious to know how that there's air systems workout now the top of the bag there's a there's a brain pocket this is the brain that comes down but there's also a zipper pocket up here which you can keep things that you want accessible that your buddy could grab off the pack if you don't want to take it off until you get to like food kompis maps you know anything anything small that you want and now the actual top-load part of the bag there's three entries into the confirming compartment or access to the bag and this is the top this is kind of redundant system and show you this again which I like I like the redundancy this first toggle which controls the inside and the second one it's really since it's on the outside so you you know kind of secure your stuff from the weather a little bit extra I like it and this is a size medium pack the material is ripstop I want to say somewhere around 200 denier something around around that but there's these little other places you can hang stuff off our talk about cordage too if you're trying to do something custom strap through the pack but all in all this is excellent excellent pack for the price I got it for the weight capacity and how it fits me how it fits my body I went into a store I found the deal online I went into a store and I tried to try these packs on with with weight which is important and I realized I really liked the pack and it fit my body well and then I went online I found the deal but just because I say this is a great pack and it does everything that I want it to do doesn't mean it's going to do the same for you if it doesn't fit your body it's not comfortable it doesn't matter how good a pack this is it's not right for you so something to keep in mind that you should you see no try on your gear first before you just make purchases certain things you know offline or without without trying it on first but this is the Gregory baltoro 70 liter pack this is correct starting out with black outdoors later Turtles
