it was up Turtles creek here with black ow outdoors I want to share with you a project I've recently done and I put a custom handle on a more blade blank this is a pretty small blade as I guess as most knives that I have go I think it's all right about three inches and I put a full-size handle on it I'm really really happy way this handle came out this is a spalted cherry that I got from my grandmother's front yard the bolster right here this later color wood and then this is section right here this is all leather this is the dark leather is oil tan leather the later is veg tan and I just staggered that and this has all been epoxy together and then I have walnut finishing out the rest of the handle and this is a really long tang on this particular blade blank and I think it probably comes down to probably close to here the tools I used to make this handle is I had just a small band saw to cut this to length the material to length a drill press to drill the holes for the tang and then I shaped pretty much all of it using a 1 x 30 belt sander and then a hand sanded finish I've been experimenting with handle designs for a little while now I'm super happy with the way this one came out you can see it gets thin going towards the blade that way if I want to pinch up closer to the blade it's not a thick handle up there almost like a scallop if you will and it's basically the thickest parts right here where the leather is and then it start to taper then towards the butt end of the knife and it just fills the hand really really nice like I said it's a pretty short blade relatively as most of my woods knives go but this full handle just makes it super comfortable to wield regardless of blade size I want to translate this blade shape and to a larger our handle shape to a larger blade then I want to get some wood now and just do some slicing because we all know how sharp more is come

I really really like this handle shape how big it is it fills the hand it's really comfortable almost like a pouco style if you will in case you have questions about the epoxy that I used on this because there was all epoxy together considering this is a stack handle and sort of a partial Tang knife a rat tail I use just a five-minute epoxy that you're going to get a big box stores i'm just experimenting with different types of epoxy just to see their qualities and how were they well they hold up and I've since purchased a little bit more expensive more 60 minute epoxy as opposed to just the five minute but like i said i'm doing a bunch of experiments just to see how how different epoxy is hold up now as mentioned about the thinner part of the handle right here and because i sort of tapered that towards the blade it makes it really comfortable to do cuts like this still have a pretty nice amount of blade control considering how big this handle is for this little blade let me know what you think let me know your impressions do you like these material choices I made the color combinations you know I thought out everything before I started doing it so let me know what you think how do you think this how do you think it turned out and eventually would you be interested in seeing a shop video on making custom handles for blade blanks let me know all right I have some suggested videos for you till the next video this is creek with black ow outdoors peace out Turtles
