it was up Turtles creek here I want to talk about in a very very important topic today and it's something I should have been doing in our past videos and that's reference materials specifically I want to show some examples of books today that I like for reference materials and there's a couple three different ways I was thinking about ways we can learn in general right so we have human interaction whether you're watching a video in someone's explaining something to you through video or in person right next to you the person can describe something to you and tell you something you can learn through observation by watching someone do that and i'm a i'm a huge observational learner i can learn a lot just by watching we could also learn through bucks through reading and like i said i have some reference materials and guides i brought with me today that i will touch on briefly and sort of the last way i was thinking about learning is sort of by doing and being in the forest being in nature you're going to learn a lot the more you're here you don't need someone pointing everything out to you if you're listening if you're open to it the material the wood or leather will tell you a lot you can learn a lot just by doing but with that being said let's take a look at some of the books i have i have with me today the first one is trees a pennsylvanian it's a field guide it's really small maybe five and a half six inches tall and as a guide goes it's really nice because it's super specific to this trees in my state of Pennsylvania I don't have to worry about flipping through finding other species that might not be present in my state but maybe in my region you know sometimes the guides are ten states they'll cover 10 different states and a guide to next to the trees guys are Pennsylvania their national audubon field guides and the ones for wildflowers and the ones for trees both in the eastern region Pennsylvania fall is under the eastern region and I like those because they're really durable they have a pretty rubber ought not rubber but a plastic you feel the book jacket on the outside I kept the jackets on the in the outside just so you can see see the information about them but they're nice because they pictures and sketches besides that to Peterson's animal tracks you know field guide to identifying animal tracks Peterson's are really popular you can find them a lot of bookstores not just the only animal tracks but in general Peterson's are pretty popular and widely accessible next to that is a classic you heard this name come up a lot in knife designs and or reference as nessa make in his book what is this one wood crafting campaign it's pretty thin standing right here and some time these older books these old reference materials are not the easiest read just with dialogue and language that's used and maybe what they're calling some different nouns maybe then the word has changed this or that but nonetheless still good reference materials to keep on hand at your house regardless if you plan on bringing it to the forest with you next to that camp cooking kept part George kept part again same type of old time you feel the language bakes these types of books a little bit more difficult for me to read as opposed to just you know going through it all again it's a pretty good pretty good reference material for cooking and things like that and next to that sort of how to make well let me just read the book and I can't see right now making Native American hunting fighting and survival tools and that again is pretty good there's illustrations and some pictures in that I wouldn't say it's my favorite favorite book on that but again there's a lot of information in there and if you were inclined you could definitely follow that and make all types of tools and weapons and lastly that big daddy is sitting on the end that's the ashley book of knots ashley is the last name of the fellow who wrote that was it Clifford yeah Clifford Ashley and that was published in believe in 1940s so again it's sort of dated with terminology and language and it's very dense there are so much information in this in this book but it's a great great reference material to have at your house you can go through it look for specific types of knots through the applications he already designated certain knots to be and

there's just more that you can even more than you can even probably want to know in that book but nonetheless it's a great reference material I didn't really go into super detail about any of these books because I just wanted to cover the topic of reference materials and the importance of them and keeping things in print so much of the information now is digitalized that I think it's important that you keep physical hard copies of things one because it's just the better experience I think then looking at a computer screen or a cell phone or tablet screen looking at a page and then but you have that piece of pizza information that it can be deleted or accidentally erased or someone take it off your hard drive or your computer breaks down but backed up obviously this can still get ruined but there's something to be said about having having it in a hard copy so if you do want to see a video may be covering one of these field guides in depth let me know we could we could probably tackle that video if any questions or any field guides or reference materials you like for certain certain topics leave a comment below I'm always looking for new for new books novel was anything that covers topics of interest this is Creek signing out back out later turtles
