Camp Cooking | Mushrooms, Beef Jerky & Rice Noodles

Description

Krik & stony head out to the forest to test out an updated campfire recipe. Originally used on their trip to Dolly Sods in West Virginia, Krik combines some dehydrated mushrooms, beef jerky, rice noodles, and a secret ingredient all together in one pot over an open flame. A relaxing day in the forest capped off with some hot, soupish food stuffs!

so it's going to be an experiment right I got some food with me and my haversack brand-new haversack I made and I'm going to kind of be experimenting with the food I brought so let me get it out and show you exactly what we're working with today got most of the food in my pot so I'm taking my pot out first and everything out show - you have some dehydrated mushroom I did not dehydrate these mushrooms myself I'm using that have some rice noodles or rice sticks I believe they were called these are really brittle something I don't eat too often which is red meat the beef jerky and there's one secret ingredient that I'm going to save to the end but first order your border business is to get some water in the pot and get the mushrooms starting to work with some warm water using potable water to start this not getting water from the creek today that's hot oh yeah that should be enough we're cooking these mushrooms the package they said to put this in warm water for like probably 2025 minutes I'm not going to do that I'm going to get the lid on that give it a stir get some more wood in that fire like I said this is a lot of experimentation because I want to see how easy or how well this works without following the directions effect but let me get my spoon out now basically all I'm doing right now is I'm just giving this a stir and I kind of want to feel how soft these are it's only been probably a couple minutes and these mushrooms have been in here instead part of the experiment today is going to be leaving everything in the water I'm cooking it in which the rice noodle says did not do that but we're going to see trying to keep it simple out in the woods right let that go for a little bit longer and then add the rice noodles such are one yeah the sake of guinea pig experiment and then try a little bit no flavor nothing little gummy almost like calamari so it tastes like a mushrooms that's not bad so I think I want to do now is when we put some rice noodles in the noodles have been in for probably a couple minutes now so I want to check them see their consistency yeah so they feel kind of soft at this point so I think what I'm going to do now is pop in that little bit of beef jerky I have like I say it's not much this is crumbs there's a little bit more in there but I figure why not I was thinking this might be done soon I'm gonna leave the lid off now at this point

all right so I think I'm ready to try it's probably been 12 minutes I'm just guessing of total probably cook time since the mushrooms running all right so you get a look at that doesn't look too bad right to the eye look too bad at all I have not put the secret ingredient yet so like I said it's experiment let's try it without any additional ingredients directions say to drain the water after you've cooked the noodles the rice knows but not out in the woods mmm actually tastes a lot better than I thought it would end up beef jerky definitely added some flavor that wasn't there before when I made it without any meat noodles tastes pretty much done I need to get a mushroom and see how that's sitting there's still a little chewy like I said almost like calamari but it doesn't bother me a little bit of texture like that doesn't bother me at all something she won't get the gums moving out here in the woods but that's some Sri Racha in there

I'm going to pour a little bit in there is that enough what do you think suni I pretty much eat this stuff every day so when in doubt add more but having just baseline of spices you can add to anything is really handy for the trail because they take pretty much any type of bland pasta starts anything like that you can add instant flavor to it all right

see if that added add any flavor and should mm-hmm

oh yeah that's definitely in there it was pretty good without the hot sauce but just adding that little bit has got some heat in there now can't really taste on the front in front of a the bite but in the back there's some heat there for sure that's great try a little bit of beef jerky by itself hmm it's still a little tough but man that's really cool these textures are really working well today I'm super happy with this I would definitely make this again yes oh I'm calling that is success at this point it's done I'm going to eat some donuts Tony you some to when we finish this video so like I said let me know what you think do you want to see more cooking videos and experimentation and recipes things like that I'll leave a comment let me know I'm really interested to hear hear your thoughts also have some related videos over here for you some food related cooking videos as well yeah that's it this is quick with black outdoors later Turtles
