hey what's up Turtles its Creek here with black outdoors and today I'm going to be doing a video on how to make fatwood or Maya steaks it's also called I've already done a video on finding fat wood in the forest as it will occur naturally but today I'm gonna do a video on actually making it what you can do and to do this basically all you need is a metal container I have an out towards container which comes handy a lot I've already used this to make some fat wood here's a piece right here you can see how this is coated as a as a opposed to a normal piece of wood how this is coated in resin and impregnated and this is really going to burn for a long time it's great to keep in a fire kit to help you keep a flame going once you already have a flame to add this to it so I'm going to start I'm going to use these four pieces of sticks I have here and on top of that you need some pitch now pitch really isn't that common for me to find an E and specifically where I am and once I found it you know it's a really great resource so I got as much as I could but um it's really not that common so I'm going to put about this much in here we're going to put on top of coals and and we're going to metal down and get and get this process going pop it in here get this on top of the coals

and you can see it starting to starting to already go down to a liquid form it doesn't take long at all I want all this to get down now and like I said we're starting to mention early this is really great to make this and keep it in a fire kit because if you cover this coat this enough it will become waterproof or you can literally dip this in water and put a flame to it and it'll still burn and I believe though that is directly related to how much of this actually SAP is going to get impregnated and saturated into the wood because I think it needs quite penetrate the whole way through and then be able to coat the outside completely so that's really dependent on how much pitch you have and how long do you keep it in the hot pitch for wax or resin or not wax but our SAP or resin still waiting for this to get down to completely liquid take a little bit longer now thought a little bit too much inmate not too much but a little bit longer I saw it quick

that's a ball something I don't want touching my skin that thing is pride oh well in hot stur see a guy jumps in there since this is still in a liquid state I'm going to drop in the four sticks I want to make into that word now in here and I'm going to move this back on the fire get some more heat onto it and let it actually do its thing to boil up and around it and get it all going see how it sticking together let's pry I don't have this at a high enough temperature let the fire go down too much of myself now we're cooking and I think I'm faced with this dilemma right now of it wasn't a critical heat while I was sticking together because I didn't keep the fire going to have a big enough pot in my coal base but that's alright

work through the situations we're presented with

let this go a little bit longer I'm gonna call good we're going to get it out but hot humid day over top of the fire

let's count it off pull these puppies out now come on

alright pull this off the fire and that's all still good Bible I can continue this process and put some more wood in there and continue to make it or let it cool try to process resources excuse me I'm keep it that way but nonetheless I have them a four pieces of fat wood down here on the ground and let this cool off and dry and then actually I'm going to do that what we're gonna wear cut will cut away and I'll come back and I'll plate one of these on fire and I'll show you how well they really hold a flame be back now these have had about five minutes I guess five five minutes to cool sort I came off pretty nice about five minutes to cool and it's going to do a quick demonstration of sort of how effective these can be and are take this little guy here so I got a normal piece of wood right here that's just a regular you know dry piece at deadwood about the similar size has some angles too it's not round and this really in the fat way that we just made I'm going to take a lighter to them because you need a flame and already a flame too out for the flat wood to work I won't just take a spark and we're going to sort of do a test demonstration just the show I'll light the ends of each and we'll see so you got the angle later here um so normal piece of wood put a flame to it three four five nothing nothing

took it and is now holding a plane and that is directly because this has been completely boiled saturated in the pine pitch you see how it's holding that flame just on the end of it and just demonstrate that a normal piece of wood would not do that that's what make these great for fire kits to keep really help you get going in a wet a wet situation a really moist you know say if it's raining on the snow this is going to work really well for you hope the video was helpful hope I you know set some light made things clear any suggestions comments leave them down below thanks for watching
