hey what's up Turtles its Creek here with blackout outdoors I'm going to be doing an overview today on this pack in front of me which is the newest pack from van quest this is the Trident 20 litre bag it is retailing for a 150 $9.99

this is the foliage great color option and as I mentioned before this is a 20 liter pack this is the actual first two shoulder strap you know sort of traditional style backpack from van quest now I'm just going to actually get into all the details and features of the bag so as you look at the outside of the bag you see these various spots for webbing to attach Molly or Powell compatible pals compatible gear on the front of the bag here you have is three full rows and a little bit up here as well on the side of the bag inside the bag there's three rows of webbing this side in here on this pocket the first exterior pocket of the bag is up top here on the front of that we have this hook and loop placement for patches name and on top of that you have the shock or bungee cord being held by a cord lock I'm not entirely sure how this can come into play for how small this is if you have any ideas of a piece of gear that could fit up here or make this actually you know utilize let me know I've been trying to figure that out I've been using the bag on the inside of this pocket right now I just have this micro pocket organizer by Maxpedition because I'm using a lot of different bags testing them out I just really have made kits out of everything I have I'm just to show you real quick what's in here some redundancy firesteel just makes it easier for me to pack bags use it not lose my stuff but on the inside of every pocket and the interior of the bag you have this high-vis orange this is I think 210 d ripstop nylon featuring all the van quest products that I've reviewed so far this has just been you know present in all the bags small stash pocket back here I have a knife rpenter easy lap paddle design done a video on that not a stash pocket up here and then some few places to secure some gear up here moving down to this main pocket there's actually two one here and this bag will actually work pretty well for a sort of a traveling urban EDC if you will for a few features I'm going to touch on right now and the first one being if you do have like a small little padlock you can actually lock your zippers if you're you know throwing this in a storage compartment of a public transportation this or that or just you'll want to really secure every pocket the top one has it this one has it just a nice little feature again it's been on every van quest bag this is actually paracord 550 paracord YKK zippers you have this the zipper track reverse so actually the teeth of the zipper is covered with fabric which keeps a little bit of water grime all that that can potentially compromise the smooth action of the zipper another very nice security feature that I'm going to be using this in an urban setting public transportation where you're going to be wearing this on your back your attention see had people or you know criminals if you will trying to get into your bag but you have this really heavy-duty snap this is like the size of a line 24 snap really heavy-duty

and then actually have the zipper pulls thread it through this and then I can access this front stash pocket here inside right now I just have a small book tree ID book really comes in handy and my headlamp Petzl headlamp this pocket really would just work well for small thin items I really wouldn't put anything too bulky in here as you can see as I do this sort of security feature and snap to shut it's a really nice solid action now if someone was trying to get in my bag my back was turned to them on a train or a bus first of all they have to undo that really hard buckle and then they'd have to thread the zipper pulls over this and you can see I'm just fit seeing fudging around with it really not going to be easy so very nice to turn in a public setting getting into this main admin pocket again you have this ripstop nylon the hive is ripstop nylon in here a stash pocket it on this side of the pocket interior I just have a handkerchief in there for now a few little Organizations pens pencils other small thin items and a bone in here if I wanted on a play around flint knapping this pack is packed for me to be out in the woods this is not really anything in here is really not for carry for inside a city some small other reading material nice little slash slip pocket for that in the back there this is the main admin pocket there is another one and it has like a keeper here this is actual keychain I made but it has a small keeper right here keep your keys in one place you know they're going to be that's basically all the rest of this admin pocket um you know not the best with organization because there is a second one here on the side which I will show but nonetheless definitely functional moving on to this other exterior pocket actually right now I just have a saw in there as a bakker saw done a video on that and this is the sheath I actually made for it leather sheath I made for it and you can see some more about sort of the admin capabilities of this small pocket on the side here completely they clamshell opens some more places for pens and pencils it's a little bit redundant for me specifically since I have some admin organization on the front of the bag i feel like this space maybe could be used a little bit differently I like to honestly have a stash pocket or slip pocket on here so I can slide things in attach it to the side a bag like a hatchet something like that but nonetheless it's a nice feature and pretty much all the pockets the bag itself is padded and as you can see my left hand I'm actually squeezing this there is padding it's not just the nylon in the rip stop fix tear nylon in the rips off there actually is padding in here because this bag is basically the javelin by Van Quest which was a sling bag and sort of camera oriented to carry camera gear and electronics so everything's padded which is really nice I have yet to see that another sort of tactical I'm style bag with a camera mind to it I'm sure there are probably others out there but I have yet to see them and/or review them but again just a nice little pocket and then on this side and the opposing side just have these little rings if you will guess it's kind of like a d-ring but some synthetic on this side and then again on here just to secure other contents to the bag just an anchor point basically on the top here the top grab handle it's neoprene it's actually pretty far extended on the sides running down the sides and attached here usually you see a handle attached more at the top I'm not sure why all this play is in this I'm not sure why they change that and or if there's a reason behind it if you have any any suggestions or any thoughts let me know moving on to the back first of all will touch on the shoulder straps okay and you have these really nice contoured shoulder straps and I will put the pack on and show how it steps on my body proportion dimensions all that but for now you can act you can tell that it has this swoop meaning this is contoured how it's going to sit on the shoulder and then come back in on the front of the torso and the ribcage which is really nice I really like to see this and I really like wearing packs that have this style of shoulder strap that design again you have these repeated anchor points for attaching anything use your imagination you have quick release down here on the bottom of each one if you would want to drop your pack for whatever reason really quick without futzing around you can just do that straps come flying over your shoulders and the packs on the ground you can move features a sternum strap which is just a little bit small for me and I'll show once I get it on I feel like this is a little bit too small is not enough slack in it to make this wide as my chest will be and there's also a little integrated whistle in that the back panel of the bag is a nice padding this is not this does not have a frame you can see manipulating this this does not really have a frame but it is rigid

enough that I feel like I don't need it for the size of this pack definitely enough rigidity in this to offer the support and keep the pack like a consistent shape when you're wearing it and loading it up there's a an actual pocket back here that actually runs the length of the back panel you can actually store another hydration bladder in here and it also has a hook and loop system and you might be able to pick up right here it might be hard to see for concealed carry now this will actually only work as a sort of storage space if you want to carry a couple hydration bladders because as you can see here this is the port for the hoses that come out through and this is not accessible through this back pocket something to keep in mind but you could carry two i'm hydration bladders if you wanted to down to the waist belt you have this really nice very nice size and generously pattered sort of lumbar support where this two-inch strapping webbing of the hip belt is attached through hook and loop and you can remove this is removable I know a lot of people ask if it's you know like to see hip out removable and stow away it's at stow wobble not sure the word it's kind of funny um you could definitely put the buckles in here but honestly I wouldn't recommend it if you're actually going to wear this on your back as you can see this really is going to push out this pad and it's really going to protrude off your back now you probably could but if you wanted to wear the pack without this I would just recommend taking this off completely and then just stowing the hip belt inside the pack and the buckle on the hip belt features this double lock system that that I've seen on all the van quests all the van quest gear meaning

I do that doesn't open I have to engage this first to release that it's again just a nice little feature as a security feature someone's trying to take this pack off of you really quick needs to be basically two-handed and it's really not an issue to do yourself per two-handed but again it does all for a security feature

now this little kick out feature here which is the main zipper track to get into the main compartment of the bag seam design that you've seen on the javelin again features this little sort of be able to lock the two zippers together for a security feature if you need to just overlap them they fit really nice they're seated really nice and snug each other small padlock just early anything you could through through there and and secure that shut would help a lot if you're worried about someone trying to get in your pack while you're wearing it again features this little security feature as well and this also doubles that if you want to have this pack on you and you sort of use it as a sling bag which you have the small handle here with that I will show as it's on the body sort of how to maneuver the pack and some of the features but if you were going to sling this and pull out your camera gear that's sort of why you have this little kick out this will actually sort of this but this piece of nylon and snap will stop this I'm opening up completely so your bag just doesn't dump out all when you have in front of you right now I just have my water bottle secured here through this little compartment um that's where I'm looking for it's like little spacers or be able to organize this for like lenses your camera body and just gear in general so it's actually really nice because it doesn't have a water bottle holder if you're not into using hydration bladders if you just sling this off open this off and my bottle stays right there really nice really nice little feature to be able to access access some of the gear as like a quick type or the things you're going to need the most on the opposing side right here sort of have this little stash pocket again secured by this hook and loop small little items then items on anything in there right now but like memory cards

things that you're going to like want to be able to access if your cameras right here your body and all that to small things a switch in and out batteries memory cards things of that nature lens wipe and then you again have another little pocket right here that can fit more fit more gear thin thinner gear definitely thinner gear or anything too bulky because it's going to just really deform the shape of the pack and something's going to really fit really well but getting into the actual mean show that all the size and the contents of the bag which I have it in right now it only opens up to on this side as you might have seen before where this other admin pocket on the one side this means dipper track stops right here does not go down here it's about three quarters give or take maybe a third down the side of the bag so you don't have like that clamshell style design if that's something you're looking for keep in mind so this is all the way the pack opens up top here I sort of have like my little bush kit that I carry like I said I have this packed for I'm going to be out in the woods and then I have my tarp nicely secured in here my water bottle was sitting here and there's these the pack comes with I believe three of these padded very generously padded like dividers I guess I'll call them dividers to organize the bag if you want like I said for camera gear and or just your gear in general as you can see I'm utilizing it for my tarp right here my water bottle and had some gear sitting up here but taking that out taking my tarp out so you can really see the inside of the bag you have more hook and loop system right here one one part of the two-part system so if you're going to put concealed carry and or anything that has the other part of the hook and loop system just to attach in here you can't really keep the gear solid or stationary in the pack in its own specific place that you want it to stay as opposed to as a contents moving or sinking down towards each other and then you actually have the main main hydration compartment hydration bladder compartment right here you have a little hook for right here for it to hang so it stays upright and doesn't say that comes over there and then there's actually a left and right option for which way you want the hose which shoulder you want to come out over the pack that's just personal preferences one here and there's on the other side and then again on the inside here you have some more pockets just some more stash pockets for small thin gear like I said you really don't want to put too much too many bulky things in these type of pockets because like I said the packs is going to sit sit kind of goofy if you're trying to stuff thick items in every single pocket and inside here you're really going to stress the bag out to its max now I believe the bag can take and it will take a lot of stress because it's very high quality it's the same quality I'm seeing through Bankwest with all the products but just like the principles of packing a bag and keeping it comfortable I wouldn't suggest putting too much thick items in these stash pockets before I get the bag on and talk about and show you some of just the way it sits on my body using some of the sling features of it there's a few things I would have liked to see on this pack because it is $150 pack you have the high quality the materials the stitching the reverse zipper tracks all of that but there's a few things that I'm really picky battle from you spending a certain tear if I'm going to be going into a certain tear for a piece of gear I like to be very very picky excuse me in the features I look for the things I like to utilize and some things are more important than others but the few things that are important to me is one on the outside of the pack I really like compression straps whether you're going to have straps running on the side here or some sort of system that has a strap running up here you've seen the wise type systems or Maxpedition I really like to have that involved in a pack because I like putting another layer just some more anchoring options for the pack now what you can do on this pack is it doesn't feature any type of compression straps I'm not really looking for the compression straps because this is a small bag to keep everything secure I like it for anchoring things to my bag well you can do

just there's these little loops of nylon sewn there I think there's one two three up here and this one yeah there's three or on each opposing side if you want to put like marine show on the outside I like keeping a layer what you can do is just sort of thread with the system which is nice to have these anchors out there that you can utilize how you see fit as you see now I'm just utilizing four of the six on here and this really will secure you know a piece of gear a layer something like that on the outside of the bag and then I can just obviously tie this off if I want to just to show you some different options configurations using the features of the bag and I did say there's a couple things I would like to see on this pack that are not present and the other one is going to be a load lifter up here and what that basically is in addition to the shoulder strap being attached here which has a very nice secure attachment with the bar tack the box and X known as a bar tack is that you have a second piece of you have a second anchor right here with material and a second one here and basically you can be able to join them and that will pull the pack in the strap a little bit closer so as it's sitting on your bag you can just secure secure the bag that much better to your body which I think it's very important if you're going to be doing some high activity stuff in this pack mountain biking I like to climb around trees climb around rocks when I'm out in the forest and I really like the pack to be as secured to my body as I can and just those little small features like a load lifter some compression straps on the actual hip but it's a hip belt itself will allow that bag just to be that much more secure to the body and it's a fit thing you definitely definitely notice that as a pack features that this one doesn't that's up for you to decide if it's a feature you can or can't live without now to get the pack one as you can see some dimensions and relations to my body I'm about 5 feet 9 inches 165 pounds the lumbar pad is sitting very nicely on the small of my back where it should be above my tailbone it's very comfortable been wearing it I really really like the addition of this lumbar pad and to do the belt cinch that as you can see I have I guess a little bit bigger of a chest I don't have this completely front profile to my body and the sternum strap is sort of it's too small because as you can see the cut of the shoulder the shoulder straps how they sort of you know carve on my body and then come back underneath here this is where I think they should sit and they will sit and I'm wearing the pack comfortably because I don't have that much play within the sternum strap itself when I try to close this you can see how it sort of lifts the it will lift the bag actually a little bit off of my shoulders as opposed to sitting back here where it's it's completely flush not just because I just has have a little bit more a little bit more meat up here but it might be an issue for some of you or other you or some of you nothing at all and that's basically you know the sort of a tension stretched your system or securing system of the pack now if you want to use this as a sling pack you know on the right shoulder you can get into this bag the second admin bag over here or admin pocket excuse me over here get into the main compartment is going to be on the left shoulder and then I'm right here so my camera body is in here and my camera is secured two-handed right here I'm not obviously carrying any electrical equipment today with me but my water bottles right here which is really nice hiking you want to stop yeah I'm a water bottle nice little feature and that's just right there and that's basically the ins and outs of this bag and sort of my initial impressions with only having this for a short amount of time doing this overview of it

it hasn't been fairly tested by me this was actually sent to us courtesy of Alex from Bank West warned us that you know try it out for a little bit do a video but we are returning this pack so as it stands now we won't have the option to do a review after this has been used for a longer period of time but that's just the reality of the way things go so as it stands now from 150 $455 there's a lot of features and small detailed features like I mentioned the small security things for being an urban setting which are really nice that I've never had on packs before when I actually lived a lot in urban settings and I was traveling a lot on public transportation there's little features would just give me a little bit of you know peace of mind you really don't see that on a lot of other packs you have the high high quality materials like I said this is thousand decoyed or maybe I didn't mention that before but it is a thousand decad or really thick this weighs about three pounds empty so it's a really robust bag for being 20 litres it's really you know compact very for a day bag but it's $150 $155 now the features being there yeah you're getting a lot you're getting a lot this isn't just you know sort of fluff for the money but in your price range if you're looking for something a little cheaper there are other options if you want the you know the high quality and the small details this could be a pack for you so if you have any questions about this pack you know sort of things I impressions I feel in this bag that I didn't go over or didn't touch on please leave a comment I'd be happy to engage with you you know figure out if you really like this pack or if it might be for you again I'd like to thank Alex from Bank West for sending this pack out remember to check out back out doors calm then your site we're pushing and all the new content we're putting up this is Creek signing out with blackout doors later Turtles you
