hey what's up Turtles it's Kirk here with black outdoors today I'm going to do a review on the Sawyer squeeze water filter system and specifically this is the point one as opposed to the point zero and I'll explain what that means and a little bit once I get into the details of the filter you can find this online I want to say for 40 bucks which is a really good deal for the quality and sort of the design of this water filter and what comes in the package if you're going to get at this point one is the actual filter itself and I'll go into the details about this once I use it talk a little bit more about it but this is the actual all the water filtration happens in this housing inside here in addition to that you have a syringe that sort of comes in this looking lab style plastic bag and the syringe is used to back flush the system for maintenance keeping it clean making sure the filter is going to last you a long time just routine maintenance like you would any piece of gear and I'll show you how to back push that too once I actually filter water I'll go through all the all the steps of how to uh how to filter and back flush and with this particular one comes three bags three different size bags there's a half liter 1/2 liter 1 liter in 2-liter sized bags with these plastic plastic screw tops here at the lid unscrew this and the filter screws on top of this and turn it upside down and that's how you filter and this is the system there's no pump there's no pumping there's no hanging a tube in the water you fill up the water you want to filter in these bags attach the attach the water filter to it and and do your business now this ways I believe this weighs 2.5 ounces out of the box once you use it you're going to have a little bit of water stays in trap like any water filter I've ever used so about 3 ounces so it is very light as water floors go and these bags virtually weigh nothing now my only criticism potentially the system are these bags and if these bags fail you're going to have a pretty difficult time using this as a water filter so simply designed with pressure coming out of this bag and I know some folks have problems up there before there's a company I think people are recommending it try ever new to get a bladder that has a screw top like this on it you can try problem to see how how these bags marks are going to use them until they break see how long they last Tony and I will use this and report back give your thoughts you know as time progresses and uses more than one let me get some water now Milwaukee mine Dave get some water I'm talking specifically before I'd be this thumb this water filter is good for filtering out bacteria and protozoa the bacteria like e-coli Salmonella and protozoa Giardia and Cryptosporidium excuse me this is not going to filter out viruses see if you're going overseas from wherever your home country is and we're going to be exposed to new sorts of viruses you can get the point zero as opposed to the point one which I have let's go in the video on the port and the point zero literally means it's zero point zero microns which is the size of the pore in the tubes there's a bunch of little v-shaped tubes this technology came from I think kidney dialysis encoder in blood it's a bunch of U shaped tubes inside of this and the size of the pores and the tubes the Lorentz force to the tubes and what's coated through the pores and then and the size the point zero point one literally means the size of the pores so the smaller the two hundreds will throw out viruses but this specifically this point one just going to clear out bacteria and protozoa something to keep in mind what you're intending to use where you're going to be using this with that being said I'm going to get some get some water now I want to fold it

and you don't have to be so conscious with with this system but you really do anytime you want to filter water through a water filter you want to try to get water from a place that's moving fast there's not a lot of sediment in the water

we've got a clog the filter much quicker as opposed to just clear to the naked eye running water I really figured out the best way to get this thrown up as quick as I can these bags this one so that

alright I'll be good for now shut up for in the pun I want to take the water filter now have this pretty good pool water unscrew this part make sure I keep this just to make sure nothing gets back back in this and in contaminates more than more than dirty water is going to put that in a pocket screw the water filter on top of the bag making sure it's a snug fit you do not have to have to torque this to you know heck and back or make sure it's snug because this plastic you can strip it and you know do some damage take this top off handle it pocket and at the top of this is like normal top to see like on certain water bottles push pool top and this opens up allows the water come through and push it down putting skills it up you can drink right out of this or you can use it to roller up our student pour into a bottle or any container your choosing I have the Nalgene here and then dump this water I'm going to keep the bottle on the ground hopefully not knocking it over I'm going to turn this upside down and just by turning it in gravity alone this could work as a gravity filter if you don't feel like you know if you had a really larger bag and you just wanted to work as a gravity filter you could walk away from this and not even have to hand you know hope this you could hang this from somewhere but to increase the flow rate I'm going to put this inside right now I'm going to wait losing the water I want to roll the bag up and just squeeze the bag and once I put some pressure on the bag you'll see there you see that outflow in foods a lot that's that's moving out a good clip that's moving out a good clip for as water filters go and I think Sawyer saying that this coder is good for up to a million gallons which is pretty crazy you know with regular back flushing depending how often you lose it that's really going to determine how often you should back flush it and how contaminated the water is but it's good practice if you take it out for a trip back flush it every time you come back in there are specific instructions if you're going to be storing this for a long period of time to actually loan the bag and we finish this and actually let's still going to get a shot of the instructions you're going to be a pick it up you're going to be storing it for a long time there's a steps on the bag procedures because there's going to be water in here like I said increases the weight because there's water kept in the system so if you're going to store with water in it for long periods of time I think it just recommends putting some bleach and there steps steps to follow right you can find that information how far on the website you don't need to keep this bag just for that so at this point that's basically I can just repeat this process repeat this process continually I just used a liter size bag but the bigger one or smaller one depending which one we want if you are going to take this out if you want to use this I highly recommend taking all the bags with you because if one of these fail you'll have other ones to use you definitely don't just want to take one and rely on just one bag to work for you

could that be a you know pretty pretty bad situation with your water purifying filtering device or stop working I'm going to grab the syringe actually we can go back here and do it make it a little bit easy for myself to work over here almost tabletop Rock tabletop halter before I did I was going to put all this back together bag now to back flush get the syringe you do want to carry this with you in the field for instance if you happen to slip while you're trying to get water for any odd reason you need to clean this in the field it's a good idea to take this with you but you'll want to use you definitely want to use clean filtered water to back flush the system you do not want to use contaminated water since I have filtered water here in my bottle I'm going to hit it from here actually I

so to the back flush the system come on screw the actual drinking top the way the water would flow out if I'm filtering us I want to take that off and take this part off to expose both ends this end here and this back end here in to back flush literally means I'm reversing it now this is that the end the water would be flowing out of this is if I'm filtering it you can see the error on here contaminated filtered now I want to reverse that and put my filtered water through here and back flush it and there's a little bit for the nipple there's a little spot right here for the nipple to seat in itself to make sure you got good contact the water is pushing through the system you'll feel it when you do it and once I got that good you really and you want to you want to push the water through some force so you really force you know the particulates anything that's in here you want to force it out so it's going to happen quick and that is I mean and I'm going to repeat this process to make sure you got a good back pressure I'll do it one more time my syringe in some filtered water clean water

and depending how I'll frequently use this on your trip each day you know you really just want to stay up and do this it doesn't really take that much water and you know it just Crito ensure there's gonna be a high output of water coming out for you and push it back first

that's basically it so you know what do I like about this system well it's small it's light I mean this is the whole filtration system compact very compact it's small I can fit this pretty much any type of bag anywhere you can you can you can find in a spot where this will go anywhere you know I guess I think I mentioned before my only concern with this is just the integrity of these bags because if these bags fail you're going to have some issues I'm not sure how you can rig this up I know you can use these like if you're gonna be filtering water all the time say in a village situation we actually purifying water a lot and filtering water but out here and you know if you're out back camping backpacking and your bags fail on you that's why I recommend taking all of them if you can you're going to have going to have potentially some issues and be in a bad situation that's why it's great to carry a metal container so if you're doing water filtration system stops working on you you can only spoil water and you can improvise you know through the different types of Earth and a filter or kerchief hankerchief shirt to taxi for the water then you can purify it by boiling it but but all in all it's a really cool system I really like to design you know so you're standing behind the technology the durability the construction the materials I've seen nothing but good things about this online let me know if you have it peace if you if you know someone who has it let me know how it's worked for them how it worked for you all that stuff this is craig signing out with blackout doors later turtles
