Ontario Knife Co. RAT 1 | EDC Folding Knife | Field Review

Description

A review of the RAT 1, a joint venture between Ontario Knife Company and Randall's Adventure Training. Comprised of an AUS-8 steel blade and a Nylon 6 black handle, the RAT 1 features numerous features that are unheralded on knives of the same price point. A bit bulky for most people's EDC, the RAT 1 works perfect while you're out camping, backpacking or hiking. To a person with larger hands, the RAT 1 may work well for bushcraft, but because of it's oversized handle, most people may find it a bit bulky for the finer cuts sometimes required of bushcraft.

sup Turtles its trick here black outdoors today I'm gonna do review show some specs on the Ontario rat one knife it's a joint knife with Ontario Knife Company and Randall's adventure and training it's a nice knife it's a big knife fits in the hand well for me personally start with the blade the blade is three and a half three and a quarter inches long flat grind comes factory sharpened comes very sharp back to sharpen the steel is aus-8 it's a you know for the for the price of the knife it's an appropriate blade quality the back of the blade has the jimping for you know good when you're doing some working at your thumb there give you some some friction safety feature the the these thumb nubs I think they're called thumb noms to open up the blade they on both sides of the blade for lefties and righties this knife has multiple features that accommodate for lefties and righties out get into the clip in a little bit black nylon handle the overall length eight and a half inches says it but united assuming this is five inches over but oversized handle for a folder you know you could use as an EDC I do at times I go back and forth sometimes it's too bulky to have in my pocket if I'm out on the town have a lot of stuff ciggies you know wallet I don't want in my pocket but you know from out in the woods which I am today at the beach behind me it's uh it works out well this retails you can find it online anywhere from twenty to you know to forty dollars it comes in a black satin finish with the blade as well overall the knife weighs thing about five ounces for way position clip which means you can have the tip up or tip down in your pocket left for righty it's a nice feature I think I bought this knife for twenty twenty two dollars plus shipping which is a steal and I'll get into like I said about the big handle for this being a EDC is it's really big I'm not gonna lie it's it's really big but you know it's then you know here's a three and a half inches of the blade for an everyday carry and it's oversized handle and you can see it my hand sticks out pretty good and potentially you know in a pinch of this is a EDC can you know I wouldn't recommend trying to break glass with this the testator get anything too hard but in a pinch the ever signed handle oversized handle you know allows some button action the blade itself is 0.12 inches thick which is you know for a folder it's it's pretty it's you know it's on the thicker side I've had this knife for probably two years now and I tell everyone they should buy this knife if you're looking you know for the price I'm a knife guy I like blades I know probably most people you're gonna watch this video like cutting things yeah like I said that aus-8 steel thing has a hardness on the Rockwell from 55 56 59 depending here you're looking at who's who's talking about it it's a lower quality steel obviously for the price of this folder you're not gonna have a high grade steel it holds an edge well it doesn't hold it long that's one of the drawbacks of this type of steel but for the price for $22 I mean I don't think it's an issue you know if you want to spend sixty seventy dollars on an EDC or a folding knife yeah then you'll get a higher quality bleed but for the price of this everything it offers there oversized handle the weight the different arrangement you can have in your pocket you know just small little features like that I think I'll make this knife a great option for anyone who likes to cut things in the hand I'm gonna grab it on a grab a stick real quick you can do small smaller work with it if you want you know like I said since it is a little bit bigger over eight inches for overall length and the blade itself is large you know you can do small work with it you know it'll do all the cuts you want but it's not comfortable to say the least you know for me I have medium size tans so the nice a little big for me you know to do if I want to do small whittling work as opposed to like a more but you know you can do all you can do all of that with it but anyways this is the rat one from Ontario knives this is a crook from blackout outdoors stay safe Turtles
