hey what's up Turtles Creek here with black outdoors I wanted to share with you a new kit I made and this is a sewing slash repair kit made out of leather has some details but I'm going to take it down on the log and show you some details of the kit and what I have inside so this is started out as a sewing kit but I added I got some duct tape but it was design I started with and I'd already change it if I wanted to if I made another one but it's made out of some scrap leather I had I have some wax nylon thread going on here sort of a whip stitch I'm glove snaps some veg 10 weather to give it some structure and just some lace some leather lace to add some cool you know detail to it and also it's functional because then I have some other lace already attached to my kit that I could use if I need to now I think it's important to carry a sewing kit and a slash repair kit in addition to like a medical first aid kit out on the field with you because the longer you're out if you just do decide to stay out for you know extended period you know days or weeks on end it's important to have things that you can repair your equipment with that being said this is a little bit large you could definitely shrink this and go really minimal with with what you have but this is a size I made it so I'm gonna show it as is and this is about oh I don't know maybe foot and a half foot and a half of lace and I have to glove snaps here in the front keep this closed in the front so we're just like a billfold design if you will so the first thing I have that I'm gonna show is this is maybe he oh I don't know three feet of duct tape wrapped around a card important because you can use it to repair tents you know clothing a bag has some water you know not proof but for too long but anyways you know duct tape has a lot of different uses this is about three feet I could put more than if I wanted to but this is a small kit you don't want to bulky some duct tape and then I have a couple different types of thread this is actually wax nylon that I've been using for my leather sheets the served my thick leather I've been using this I'm not sure exactly how much is on this but this is nice because this is multifunctional one there's its wax so it's really strong too I can actually peel this apart if you will or unbraid the actual thread and get smaller strands sceetos buzzing around find this end give you a general idea that how thick that thread is an exciting P little part to smaller smaller strands if I need to in addition to this I also have some just normal if you will you know sewing thread using a machine hand sew things this is just black jerseys black cuz it'll blend in with dark colors I don't really don't care if I have a lighter colored garment with the contrasting black thread you know mostly this is carried for if you're going to have you know something fail on you in the field you need something to prepare it and sort of just you know keep it functional while you're in the field and then if you get back you can do a better job if that's the case but most things I have you know I feel completely fine with you know repairing it and having it good now this is sort of the meat and potatoes of the kit and I have with c6 safety pins two larger ones here and four smaller ones you can see there's more space on this I have a spare button just sewn on there I can just cut that off if I need to use it I also have a very large needle I think this is actually probably called a yarn a darn or something like that

darn needle darning but this is really large for really really thick for pairs and your kit obviously should be tailored towards the materials you're carrying and what you potentially need to repair if you're not carrying any thick material and using a really thin rip stop or you know all types of in a really thin lightweight material a needle like this probably wouldn't be necessary so you wouldn't need to carry you know your kid specific to what you have what you use and all that sort of premeditated you know packing on what you know the trip may dictate this is very large

put that back and in addition to that I actually do have a smaller needle which is right here my fingers tracing and I would use this needle with the small thread the small black thread I've shown this can you know size needles great for pants shirt sewing on buttons any type of garment you know thinner garment this stuff this will work fine with the size needle I'll pull it out show you in my hand

have one of those on there you can see there's more space on this if I really wanted to carry more there is space for four more items and the safety pins obviously I'm not going to go into much detail with that you know safety pins are used for if I have a long tear say in my shirt I have a really long tear and I wanted to pinch you know pinch the tear together to give a real clean give a real clean seam while I'm doing it that safety pin that's where they'll come in handy and now so I can use it to actually just hold things together if I don't want to sell them they can be used for that and one thing I decided to keeping this inside to use this actual backing this orange backing is multifunctional because this is that's ShamWow ShamWow material they may be seen on infomercials or TV and why I chose it use this instead of like felt or something because this will actually take a spark I can cut off a little corner if need be fine heed some tinder cut this off break it open like your way to find tinder and I can't and this will take a spark and it won't be a really hot flame but I can use like some some birch bark or some sort of other type accelerant to add to this if I need be so it's sort of multifunctional in that sense and that's really basically the ins and outs of this kit and I could obviously add more to this I could add I can make a little bit bulky bulky or swords like this thin Bill's billfold style just closing it up to see you know just to glove snaps simple and even without the lace keeping the sides you know nothing's really in jeopardy of falling out because of the friction you know I don't have anything beside you're just kind of open you can see nothing's really gonna fall out so like I said if I had to make this again which I might I definitely change the design a little bit but this is just the kit as it stands and like I said before I think it's just important to keep a little kit like this and obviously if you're going out for day hikes or something smaller like that you really don't need a big kit potential repairs but if you're going to be backpacking or spending a week or you know even longer than that in the field you definitely definitely want to carry a decent well-thought-out repair kit now if you're gonna be in a tent a tent repair kit would be nice for this for the sides of the tent or the you know tub floor or walls but duct tape can do that or if you're going to be using a inflated sleeping mat or something like that there's specific repair kits for that with some glue almost like you to repair a tube and a bike so my point is I'm trying to get as that just to your kit should be specifically designed for what you're carrying with you and what your the activity you're you know I'm sort of intending to do like so for instance for your medical first-aid kit if you're going to be taking an ax or something a very sharp swinging tool with you the trauma that can be involved with that you'd want to tell your medic or first aid kit to potentially if you bury an ax or hatchet in your shin or you know or someone else with you that medical kit should be tailored towards as opposed to if you're just hiking most likely use when we slips trips and falls really minor first-aid type things as opposed to a tool so like I said just basically your kit should be tailored towards your activity and materials your have with you but this is just the small one I whipped up you know I think it's really cool I just like it I like the styling I could have used a little plastic tube you know shoved everything in it or an outdoor Tim but this way I like to make stuff you know I like the craft I like to make things and use them so this is sort of the first design I came up with I think it's really cool but if you have any suggestions for something else maybe I could put my kit one thing I didn't mitt our I did miss that there's no scissors in here which would be great for cutting thread and your knife can do that but also if you have a multi-tool scissors that's a really great thing so I don't need to carry that with in this any other things you think I should be carrying into this you know let me know leave a comment or are what you carry in your sewing slash repair kit you know leave a comment please I'm always looking to share ideas remember to check out blackout doors calm all our videos are featured on there we have really cool photography like a featured image that's not on the YouTube page so you know if you're interested in that you can definitely check that out as well check us out on any other social media outlets this is Craig signing out with blak outdoors later
