hello hello and welcome to another kit recommendation video in today's video I'm gonna be taking a look at this which is the Talon 33 backpack from Osprey got about a year ago just over a year ago I've used it pretty regularly since I've been up in the mountains quite a lot doing lots of day hikes and I have to say I really love this backpack in fact I from this backpack I have moved forward and bought more Osprey backpacks because I've absolutely fall in love with them so what I'm gonna do is break down the features for you and then talk a little bit about why I like this plaque backpack I think it's brilliant ok let's have a look at those features the main construction of the bag is made from a ripstop nylon material which at first seems like it's not that tough and not that strong it does feel pretty thin but we just have a quick look at the bottom here I've been using this backpack for a bow as I said just over a year now and I've been putting this down on rocky surfaces wet surfaces been dragged along it's been bumped knocked it's been used all over the place and it is honestly a little bit of dirt it isn't showing the slightest bit of wear at all but love it's a nice kind of square shape here which I have to say at first I thought this would make it be able to stand up it doesn't stand up very well this backpack but we'll get onto that in a little while so yeah the main construction is this ripstop fabric it is slightly thicker at the bottom and slightly lighter at the top which doesn't make the pack quite lightweight and it weighs in at 890 grams so stand alone on its own it's a pretty lightweight backpack okay so the main compartment of this is just a nice big bag there's no there's no additional compartments on the inside and so yeah I quite like that so the main compartment does hold with quite a lot this is a 33 liter pack and it holds a surprising amount especially when we take into account some of the additional features so we'll start mainly at the top here for the extra features so the lid of the pack originally when I saw a few reviews this said the pack the lid of this pack is removable

is not removable you cannot take the top of this pack off it can be adjusted using these straps here but to be honest you don't really need to I generally use those or tightening up straps so the lid has a large compartment here which is ideal for keeping things like the waterproof jacket hat and gloves in and quite spacious I fit quite a lot of stuff in there and the underside of it has a picture that I really like which is an additional mesh pocket so in this mesh pocket what I tend to keep is my keys because on here in here sorry there is a little key clip which the day hikes is brilliant if you've driven out to somewhere and I'm forever losing my keys and having this little addition makes things a lot easier I'll also try and keep a little power bank in there as well haven't got the pack loli today so I'm just gonna chose stuff as on when I can and that zips up quite nicely there okay so that is the top of apartment that just zips up the end the lid is a sort of normal sort of fold down lid and it attaches just using these little little Clips little erm then what the name of these little clip things is yeah that's how that works on the back here we have a secondary compartment which fits a hydration bladder and that keeps it separate from the rest of your pack that sits down the back here and there is a little clip in here which can be clipped onto that hydration bladder to keep it upright some of the some of the times I've used these where they've got the additional compartment for the hydration bladder I've found that it does kind of drop down to the bottom this keeps it upright so that the the tube can come out and doesn't get one stop on there the straps of this pack are very very nice the molded foam on the inside and with holes cut out of them which makes them more breathable and a little bit more lightweight we have these little rubber rings here I find these very very useful just for attached and stuff too so in the past I've used my pushed my hydration bladder through these

I usually carry a little clip-on sort of handy here I was Raggett which girls on there and the left hand strap has a little stretchy compartment and what I usually have in there is a little snack bar or something also on the left hand side we've got the Ospreys it's kind of absent on pretty much all of their backpacks which is the stow on the go in pole attachment which attaches just to the bottom of the left-hand strap and then further round here we've got a little loop that they stick through I absolutely love that feature the waist strap is very very comfortable again it's that molded sort of foam with the holes in and it has these two little each strap has these two little sort of side pockets here they don't sit on the front they sit kind of like just the sort of back side to back of your hips on there and they're very very comfortable

I actually don't generally notice when I've got this on which is really nice I've had some packs where the waist strap is just absolutely awful to use the back has this kind of molded foam back to the very thin piece of plastic sort of shape to it and this is very very comfortable and it's not as breathable as Osprey would have you make out but to be honest I've never ever found a pack where the back of it can breathe very well it's not the worst one I've had it's sort of reasonably breathable but to be honest it's that tight up against the back not much air flow is getting in there what I will say for it is that it is very very very comfortable it really hugs you back quite nicely

the sternum strap is attached to both of the straps obviously just by using this little in here this like what feels like a solid piece of plastic tubing and this is adjustable it's pretty tight so it's not going to sort of readjust itself even me trying to move it is it's pretty challenging there and that just clips to you like this and we've got a little whistle on there as well which is becoming pretty standard on a lot of these bags and I do like that feature and then just adjust just by pulling this again it's a nice comfortable sternum strap because it's adjustable so many of these straps just in a fixed place which it doesn't work because we're all different sizes and shapes so I really like that sternum strap moving on to the sides of the pack what we have are these two stretch mesh put mesh pockets here and they're a bit unusual because the strapping for one of them is on the inside and the strapping for the other one is on the outside here but I find these very very useful and I generally keep my bottles of water in here or I'm out filming I have a big now adenine bottle of water to lea analogy in one of them and that fits perfectly and I have my tripod in the other one usually this one with the straps on the outside so I can really cinch that down and they're quite they are quite stretchy and that stretch material is surprisingly tough again just like the bottom it hasn't started to show any signs of wear and it's got these little reflective strips on it as well moving in from the sides we have also just tucked away here so these can be tucked away if you're not using them like that keep everything out the way keep it nice and the entirety which I really like but these are actually ice axe straps and there's two of these one on each side and I really like that and so if you carry in two ice axes yet they can go on there or you can put your hiking poles in them or if you're not using them as I said you just put in the way under here also on the front we have a large stretch pocket stretch mesh pocket here which is very very stretchy and you can fit quite a lot in there today I've got a tangerine in there and a bit of litter on there we've got the Talon 33 design with these weightless wave design on it and that's really nice because that's highly reflective so it's good if you're night hiking or whatever there's something else say can you really do short quite well without it is quite reflective and it's got these little holes at the bottom here which obviously aren't for drainage because it-it's just mesh but you can attach a little bit of something on there in the past I've attached to a a little lamb where the cord glowstick on there just to make myself a little bit more visible in the dark the main compartment we've all had a bit of a look at in there it's just a nice big open pocket like so what I really like about this is the way that it fastens ie mine's been chewed by a mouse it is not a mouse proof bag first time I took it out to be used stay in the pocket of a mouse decided to chew on it and so the main compartment uses this kind of like blue paracord to seal it short and I really like this feature because you can use it in mittens or gloves as well and to tighten it all you do is you hold onto this tab here and then pull the two pieces apart from each other and that tightens up very nicely and then to open it you just did that without showing you to open it you just pull it grab hold of this little tab and pull on it which gives you full instant access to this nice open pouch yeah if you need it to be a little bit more stable when it's fully packed you have this additional strap here which goes on or one of the things you can use this for is to put something else on the neath it and then have the the main lid quite loose so that really extends what what you can get into this pack i've actually put a tent in there before which is quite nice and the mesh pouch also has an attachment so that doesn't kind of flop open so that does kind of fluff open a little bit so that's rampant fall you can extend this and have it nice and wide so folks there you go that is the Osprey Talon that 33 looks like and as it looks that goes it's pretty basic there's not loads of technical features on it but that's why I like this part it's straight forward straight to the point there's no stupid little features on it there are so many backpacks on the market now that have like just crazy features on them completely unnecessary it's a main compartment with a few exterior compartments and some places to attach the stuff on the outside that need to be on the outside it's incredibly comfortable

honestly I put this back on the first time to go out I think I climbed back like lambs the climb Snowden in in January in this pack and as soon as it went on fully loaded I was like wow this pack

actually amazing it's a 33 liter pack which doesn't seem like too much but I've done an overnighter of this pack and that includes sleep kit food and everything you for doing a high V so yeah you can get a surprise I'm out in it I think anything more than an overnight you're gonna be pushing it a little bit you might be able to manage it you might you might get two lights out of it but you are going to be pushing and it is tight to do an overnight trip but it is possible especially and I've done a couple of nights out in this where I've headed for a bothy so I just need my sleep kit and no like additional shelter it's absolutely perfect for that the price of it is pretty decent I think it comes it about around the 50 pounds mark here in the UK it's simple easy to use you can use it in gloves and it's a good all year-round pack I've read a number of a number of reviews on this where people have thought that it's not gonna be up to certain tasks and then they've gone out and used it and found that actually it is brilliant it's a very very popular pack and it's very popular for very good reason it's an excellently well put together little backpack okay there we go nice little kit recommendation for you hope you've enjoyed it hope you've got something out of this you have any more questions about the pack do let me know in the comments below and I'll do my best to answer those for you and as always thank you all for watching take care and I will see you in the next video
