hey folks Mike from bushcraft Bartons I hope everyone is doing fine today we're going to take a look at the mr. Hawk right here

all right so give me a minute or two and we are going to take a look this bad boy right here

all right so what do we have here well this is the CRKT woods children come aha now in case you don't know what this looks like or look like before here's a pig so first thing I want to say is this is a gift from brother II and I really appreciate that thank you sir and second thing before we start looking at it not because I modified it or played around with it am i saying that the original design is not good that's completely false people have their own ideas and designs and you know it usually works this is just a fun little project for me personally quick specs 1095 no sorry about that 1055 the steel the handle is around 19 inches it's got you know two cutting edges but this one is sharp this one is not sure I don't really need this one to be sharp okay for wood it's but grind on it is a flat grind but it came in pretty sharp I just touched it a little bit I just hold it that's it the hammer pulled I noticed came right up to here why did I take it off well first thing I think it looks better this way you know again personal preference here okay and second if I want to use this tomahawk for minor details minor work it's a lot easier because a big mistake that people do when they use an axe or come off to do small work well it's not a big mistake okay forgive me for that but it's not really the proper way because it's unbalanced when you push this way your hand is not behind so you know what it does it pulls all the time to push and you always have to so this tires your wrist so being that the hammer pole was too long there's no way I could use this properly that's another reason where I can put two fingers on both sides now I have a complete control when I use it what I done is I took off the paint and I blued it that simple and just rehome the edge now I'm going to give you a closer look at it in a second the wood I stained it I sending it down sorry first then it comes with a some type of a clear coat which I don't like because it makes this slippery so that's one of the reasons so once and that I just burned it off you know with all kinds of designs that don't mean a thing really it's just the looks and then I stained it like I want to Reese and it it until I got the colors I wanted and then I put a couple of nice coats of linseed oil and I also modified the handle and I showed you this already before in another video I'll show you again but tomahawks have small handles and of course they're not meant to chop big you know for big wood chores so again just like a small handle on the knife it's so small that you're concentrating on trying to hold it as you're hitting that it tires your hand and wrist quickly so this here gives it a bitter thicker grip and this will not slide off your hand at all I'll show this to you in a second so that's about it what amazes me for a tomahawk usually a tomahawk is pretty lightweight and you know one problem with tomahawks

again it's not meant for that but I still want to talk about it when you're trying to chop down a small tree it tends to bounce back sideways like this okay

on the other way it lacks weight and this one with the original hammer is 2 pounds

now that's cool it's just like your Grandpa's books with small forest acts I think it's two pounds so that's really good now of course this is probably not two pounds any longer but it's still pretty heavy still pretty hefty so I'm anxious to see how this thing is going to chop okay so let me get a little closer so you can see some stuff and we'll make a few chops with it it comes fairly sharp I just hold it a bit I didn't reach arpan it at all just hold it I blew it too close try and give it that really older look

and you know the wood I just made some little designs

it's been focus few feathers there okay now I've talked about this before this has got to be one of the best ways that I've found so far and cheapest ways and effective ways that you can do simple your electricians tape okay you take out as much as you like and you twist it you know for those are ever played hockey we used to do that with our hockey sticks at the bottom or the pallet is so you twist it once it's nice and twist and you just go around it okay this and once you're satisfied you cut it off and then you re tape it all around nice and tight once that's done all you need to do is add inner tube on it you see the tape is in here okay inner tube and the inner tube the elastic non-elastic electrical tape makes it thicker and grip here and the inner tube makes it nice and soft and grippy - and plus you have extra resources you know available to you so oh and by the way I know a lot of people have been asking if my fingers crooked

I mean broken no it's not broken it's I've got I've had for years problems already you know I'm not that old arthritis and all that wonderful stuff I have some of my fingers my neck and all over the place so no this is not broken sometimes I try and point to so and it doesn't go so I have to use this other finger okay so what I'm going to do is make a few chops with this guy and see how it goes so these are chopping tests I'm not going to try and go through this this is not rotten now even though it's 19 inches long which is just about the same length as the ground string Brooks 19 20 you can steal still used with two hands so that's pretty cool and you can use it with one hand so let me just clear some stuff here a little bit okay

okay what are my thoughts on this you don't need to test 20 hours to know if this is going to work or not in the long run concerning how effective it could be now for the edge retention that's another story it needs to be tested more but usually I guess 1055 that's properly treated it's pretty good well I am very impressed I mean for a tomahawk Wow thumbs up CRKT I'm very impressed I'm telling you except for the handle comfort you know - tomahawk it's not an axe not as comfortable as I as an axe but if this would be and this is just talking if this would have an axe handle something like the ranchers books or wetterling's you know whatever a good one there won't be much difference in performance with the ranchers Brooks Forest acts a little different I have to say though and chopping it awesome

this is a tomahawk so we're going to leave it like it is and as a tomahawk so far what I've seen I haven't seen millions of them but this is the best yet trust me nice weight to it add this to it will you know help you out you design it like you want it's not 300 bucks not quite sure how much they sell it but anyway if you're looking for a tomahawk I certainly recommend this one for the effectiveness of it chopping for the edge retention well we'll talk about that some other time that I like to test my edge retentions during the winter now that's the real test alright so I hope you liked this little video thank you guys for watching and you know I want to take this time again to you know thank you for all the support you give me through the YouTube - the Amazon store you guys know who you are
