so today I'm going to show you how to make a pact rack all we're going to need is three poles and some cordage so what is a pack racket well back in the day didn't have backpacks and that's what they used why would be important to know how to make one well you never know you might lose your backpack and you may need a option a way to carry your stuff without having to you know carry everything in your hands now the 1 i'm about to show you is a small pack rack and it's not my Maya creation it's been there for a long time I don't remember the gentleman's name but it's the simplest out there I believe and that's the one I want to show you what you're going to need is three poles and eat oh there are roughly around an inch and a half to two inches in diameter to figure out in general the right length of the two vertical poles usually it's supposed to be the length of your arm right and for the horizontal just use the length of your forearm that should give you the you know close enough give or take the right size for this type of pak-rat now the first thing i want to do this clean these guys up a bit just relax take the bark off of it try to make something nice and decent and after that will be lashing so stay patient with me I'll show all of that in a few minutes so

now that's done time to lash these together

about the top flashed up we're here and now it's just a matter of adjusting the bottom you want when you do lash the two bottoms you know you want your ends here to come out about the minimum of you know an inch an inch and a half because you're going to need these two ends here so I'm going to lash these two when I lash one and because you know it's a pain to show on camera I'll take time to show you how to lash the last part just in case you never seen that done before and again this is just a small pack rack all right you can build it a lot bigger it's just to show you what you could do with pieces of wood to help you carry stuff in the bush all right so quickly last two of them I'm gonna do my best to show you the camera how to make a simple lash again you want to adjust yourself what about you know an inch inch and a half on both sides sticking out here especially this part you'll be using this site here so I mean you can you can start off any which way you want I art off with you know your clove hitch and your typical clove hitch when you remember you make your two loops camera camera right make your two loops one loop second loop put it under and you know gives you a clove hitch right now doing this that way here is quite impossible so just give you a little tip see if I can get a little closer now we're going to lash diagonally here you're going to take your piece of rope right go under it and go over again can adjust this after now do you see this X it makes when you go back let me turn this around alright so I went over go over again now you see this X it creates now you must see it so what you want to do is come back over and under the X so come back and you want to put it in between the two right here the X right so I'm in the X right now I know can't really see much but now that will create your clothes hit so now it's solid it's difficult to show but anyway I hope you got to just put it on pause and try and figure it out now you readjust it make sure it's at the right place and we're going to go on the top of the two pieces of wood now the general rule and then again its general it's four on the top and two inside you know to tighten it up but it's a general rule i'll be doing a little bit more than that so go round always making sure it's nice and tight it should be good enough now you go inside make sure you tighten this good now I know the camera angle is probably not great but maybe this way now you go inside tighten it good now you can finish this off whichever way you want as long as it's good not they'll keep these together you can you know come back here and just make your finish it off with a another clove hitch like this I mean half hitch but I still got to go around a few more times what I like to do is you see I left this piece hanging I just like to finish off with your simple square knot this way I'm sure it won't come undone sorry about my hands being there but anyway alright so top when you go inside all right and you finish it off with a square knot and after that you can just clean her up if you wish man this is pretty solid let me back up here maybe it's because there this is very solid rack for what I want to do so now your frame is done there's a few things you can do you can lash up a few ropes here like maybe two from here to here here to there you know it to support the back of the pack you can put a few more like that it's up to you to you know just use your imagination and it depends on your need but usually they would do these to you know bring the bigger stuff like bed rolls and tarps and maybe a big nice piece of meat from a hunt so normally your back you know this goes on your back normally your back would hold the stuff that's on top if every would want to but if you want to be absolutely sure that you know comes to you making this you can / two ropes like this just to secure your bottom all right so now that this small pack rack is done I don't know it's about a good two feet two feet high anyway and a foot and a half wide so now how do we put that on our backs next my frame is done now obviously whenever you do put something you know you can use your imagination on how to tie it off you've got some stuff you just start from the bottom and tie it you know I'll leave that to you guys but now how do we put that on your back well you're going to need another piece of rope the first thing you're going to want to do just find the middle just showing you how I do it and you know you can do it whichever way you want so found my middle now what I want to do next is got my middle go under I want to have the right this back I want this to go towards my back right so take the loop pass it under take my two other ends let me back up here can do this in the air you see from there back up so do this again the middle part put it in under take the two other pieces put it in the loop pull strand like this now

put this on your back now you have to be a little patient because there will be some adjustments so now I have the two ends right like this now what I'm going to do see if i can get closer all right let's see here take this end I don't even need to look in the back let me bring it closer all right and remember these two ends sticking out while you're going to go around one do it this way do the same thing on the other side round it bring it back

now you want this to go they said there's some adjustments you want this to go just a little bit below your waist now if you're not sure you can double loop it right just give it a little bit of loose here and go around twice if you think it's going to be a heavier load one side and I'll do the next what's cool about this you don't even need to look in the back so now it's in the back and always adjust it a little bit the way I will tie it in front is the same way remember how I showed you to tie the pouco same way while I'm holding this I will just create a loop right just create a loop as I said there will be adjustments

so I've got my loop and all I need to do is bring the other end in right just tie off just give it a just your normal half hitch

if you want to secure it a little bit more well just create another another loop now there's always going to be some you know some extra cordage this one I don't want to cut it I just want to put in my pockets so i got my rack you know if you can see it the top no idea walk away securely it's secured here secured my shoulders obviously if you have a heavy pack or heavier stuff to bring you're going to want to put this sitting down so as you sit down then you just turn like this and listen here with your legs it's going to be too heavy to do just what I just done to show you you know as an example so there you go very simple to do and fun to do and I need to do is untie it unroll it Trey to go again yeah very simple the pack rack so I hope you enjoyed this little video of the pack rack hey why don't you make this your next project and have fun doing it thanks for watching

you
