this is uh actually it's a video request that I'd done a while back if I remember well I think his name was was Dan the story is is that I was wanting to reach up load this video but sadly I can't find it anymore for some reason and that's why I decided to make another one this video is not about I know there's a lot of debates out there what's the best tool to carry you know the axe big knives small knife the saw but to me guys all the three of them are important all right the axe is important to me the saw and the overall bushcraft knife is very important to me while I'm in the bush now again it always depends where you live if you get stuck in the desert the ex won't be much use you know but up here in Canada especially in the wintertime an axe is a must if you want to keep warm during the night especially for fuel those little pieces guys will not last long especially the colder it is the faster the wood burns so you need big pieces of fuel and you'll get it the fastest way is with an axe so what I'm about to show you are things that you probably know but I just hope that maybe some of the tips that you will see you'll get something out of it I don't know it's just things that I normally do when I use an axe I got nobody else filming for me so guys I got bear with me I'm going to move that the camera once in a while but one last thing before I show you these things as the knife it is extremely important that your is very sharp because just having an axe scenario you're lost in the woods and all you have is an X you can do all the chores needed the small bushcraft chores - the big ones that's why I love the axe so much I'm not putting down the rest of the tools as they're all important but today we're talking about the X okay so you just

maybe get you a little bit closer here now I didn't take time to go out and start chopping a tree or I already had some spruce here so this is just for demonstration now I won't be splitting this but just give it a scenario you just chopped your tree all right mmm you use the saw you cut your pieces what's the best way to split it effectively so it's bliss well you know just in case you're a beginner and you don't know well just imagine this is a bigger piece that's round all right what you want to do when you do split you don't want to hit right in the middle of the piece because most of the time especially with hard wood your piece your axe is going to get stuck in the wood of course you can you know if it's too much stuck you can turn your axe around with the piece and then hit and you'll eventually it'll split but what you want to do is get at least 3/4 of the blade all right on the piece of wood when you do hit it that way you won't get stuck and your piece of wood should split easily okay now I won't do this with that because I need this piece to show you other tips so

let me get to the next one bring this down again sorry about that guys all right now normally when you chop down a tree let's give another scenario you don't have a saw so you chop down a tree dead tree and you chop some pieces off normally the ends of them the end of the pieces will not be flat okay for sure they won't so it's a little bit dangerous to split them this way and you're gonna have tendency of holding it with your hands so it doesn't fall and going with your axe and hitting and it's extremely dangerous connects does not forgive guys I know you know that but I just wanted to mention it so one good way that I use and I find pretty secure and safe find yourself a stump alright or a dead fallen tree whichever you find get yourself a limb or any type of the tree now one thing that's important whenever you do use an axe always make sure you have something solid behind or on top wherever you're hitting and it'll work effectively sometimes you see people like example chopping on this branch here and there's nothing under and the branch or the limb whatever Springs first of all it's very dangerous and second of all the guys are working twice as long to do the job alright so make sure you always have something solid so let's pretend no matter what kind of X you have smaller big this is the same way you just spread your legs make sure they're out of the way you've got solid behind and this is your piece is lifted up you know about three four inches from the ground so you can aim right so now all you have to do is split it in two right this is the way that I use the most most of the time because it goes well now let me show you another another method that can be done that you very well know right you can either use if you don't have a stump you can use this a piece on the ground and do the same thing right all you got to do again you can put it this way I'm going to save this piece for something else alright again it's the same basic thing see if I'm on the frame here you keep the piece away from you solid ground you don't want to hit in the middle or at the end here alright sometimes it won't split or it might spring it's the same basic thing you want to hit where it's solid where the limb is okay and it'll just split for you now another way of doing it you can just simply hold your piece alright and go down and just hit it on the limb or on the stump whichever way right and go just twist let's do it again stop hit twist and it will split for you so

by another piece here put it on the ground

make sure there's something solid just split it in two or I'll just show you the stump the same thing with the stump right put it where you want you just hit give me a second alright sorry about that okay so what you do

just split twist and it goes up goes off okay splits into easily split and stuff now

you can even do the small jobs need to make some kindling again I never never never I'm going to hit when my hand is there find these specific sizes I put it where I want the size to be and I'll just go down and make my size right my Kinley

whichever way you can do it that way this way split in two that's there now even with a small knife or us or an X I mean sorry if it's sharp you know if I'll be able to show it if need be you need to make feather sticks you just choke it up right up to the blade section always using your shoulder because it's going to be heavier than your knife it's going to be a little bit harder to do but you could still do just got to do a few here is to give you an example

okay so whoops so there you have you can make even feather sticks with it another small chore you need to make a notch for some reason right you just give it a kick like this same thing obviously it doesn't work like a knife but you can still the job done whatever craft you have to do right so just just made a little this is the example I'll just zoom back in there now you can create yourself a notch alright yeah sorry about that so I've created just with an axe all right

and no time at all starting from the big piece I got some fuel here I've got some kindling feather sticks okay this is scenario we're just talking here and I was even able to make a groove to make you know figure four deadfall guys a sharp axe can do pretty much everything all right so again I thank you for watching I mean I just showed you what I normally do there might be some other things but for me this is simple work that I did I do all the time especially for fuel you know y'all nice constant hot fire and even for you know shelter building when you want to build something strong and something that will last a little bit well an axis what I think the best of works anyways up here in Canada so thanks again for watching guys appreciate you
