all right so I'm going to show you guys how to cook some bannocks the way the Cree do it I don't know maybe others you know other Native Americans do it too I know they do it this way because I have seen it myself now I prepared the banding at home it's just your typical Bannock nothing special

let me see two cups of flour one tablespoon of sugar one tablespoon or half a half a I'll write it down on the description okay cut I don't have good memory now this way the way we cook or the way they cook it you don't need any pans you don't need any types of oven but there's we're going to cook it on a stick but first you got to shape it now I know while I'm doing this some of you guys are going to have some thoughts you keep your thoughts in your brain okay don't write anything in the comments what you want to do is stretch it nice and even

much as you can [Applause]

I usually keep it about an inch and a half out in circumference in diameter it's nice here all right that's pretty good get yourself a piece of stick now we take the bark off for two reasons make sure you got a piece of wood that's not poisonous in your area take the bark off because bark at times especially green will make your food bitter and also bacteria tends to want to stay between the bark and the wood so what you want to do

fold it first time and make sure you go over the fold they just roll it and you're going to keep it right and tuck it in at the end there so it looks something like this right you took both ends you don't want both ends to fall down or fall off now you want to one-up usually we cook over coals but this way you can use the heat of a fire one tip when you do make your fire

don't put it right away make sure your little twigs burn first because the first twigs that burn you're going to have full of soot make sure you got some nice pieces of wood that's burning with the flame and keep it about you know foot foot and a half from your fire so I'm going to install this and I'll show you see the size of my fire it doesn't show but this is very hot I'm about a foot and a half from the Bannock right I'm going to keep it that high when it starts going down I'm going to add some bigger pieces but you want to keep it like this because Bannock burns easily you want to slow cook it and I just got your simple why stick you know I needed some height here because it was too high that way so I just added a piece of stick there to put it the right height that I wanted so once this guy is cooked guys well we'll show you the results as usual because this is our lunch we'll be eating this with weiners so stay tuned I gotta show you this again you know a lot of times I always well a lot of times a few times I mentioned that I just love the ideas from a perspective from a lady in bushcraft I had a little problem I was doing something and of course Josey my wife came up with something very simple I'll show you what it is over here I don't have the post anymore now I wanted to put this one higher because my Bannock wasn't low enough on that side for the fire so imagine all the work and need to put another piece under and all that well this is what she thought of why not use a chain hold the end now isn't that brilliant guy love those ladies in the bush guys that holds on itself alright like right now this fire is a little bit too big it's going to go down there but it's a little bit too big but once it goes down a bit it's going to cook well stay tuned all right just before waiting for the Bannock wait this is way too secondly I just want to show you what after you know the years of being Bush and being bug season this is what I found to be the best in my opinion for me anyways I was tired of hanging those sprays and disgusting smells and you know that lasts just a few hours now this is obviously more expensive you see just for this little 445 milliliter it's six bucks but I usually buy the bigger one which is cheaper and I keep this one because it carries well on my bag it's a cream and I tested this first before I always do in bug season a few years ago I mean lots of bugs I even went to a place where there's lots of it I left my arm you know extending out with nothing and I put this cream on the other arm and I went you know both arms in front now obviously the mosquitoes and black flies are all over the place and here they were just there's nothing and I mean nothing they drove around but they wouldn't bite you so being a cream this is for the skin talk for the clothes it wipes well goes in your skin fast and it doesn't stink it smells pretty good it's made by Watkins right outdoors it's got its 28 give me a second here 28.9% DEET now this I believe is the maximum amount allowed in Canada but it's plenty

I believe me is plenty we came in today full of black flies put it all over the place my face on my head because obviously I have not much hair everywhere where the skin is exposed and I mean it's night and day so I just wanted to give you guys this tip you know get if you are if you're interested it doesn't stink it lasts all day and you can buy the big bottle and carry this one in the bush when you want to go so just give you another little close-up what it looks like you guys interested it's made in the USA and this one comes from Manitoba Winnipeg okay so little tight so we're making a bow drill set to Josie there go have the board out of this this time we'll be using willow and it will make a nice spindle out of this as well while we're waiting for the Bannock it's been about 15 minutes it's a little longer than an oven obviously there's no heat all around but still works good so keep you guys posted oops

about that everything was thinking it's not all the way [Music]

so keep on dropping around like that take I want to leave about an inch square so you can round it off see drop it here and there then you can use the knife to finish to make it nice and round

oh right getting there okay yep all right just take just about here a little bit more okay yeah all right now with that piece you can use the knife and finish it off so that's going to be your spindle our board alright so we lowered her down a little bit for the last few minutes of cooking put a few wieners on it should be done pretty soon all right she's all done now it's time to taste it it's going to be pretty hot still but mmm Oh hot hot hot wait it's got to be too hot just a second right

now you can use all kinds of dough's you want some butter of course pass this to my wife oh thank you sir oh that's hot hmm me oh oh wow that's good how well nevermind okay she still could have been a little bit more cooking but I was getting hungry oh don't put that much butter come on yeah yeah hmm

this is cold go guys want to taste up mmm butter melting hmm Wow could have left it a little bit longer but it's fine like this if you want it to really become you know maybe another five minutes so it all would have been about 4045 minutes to cook this sighs okay let me remember two cups of flour one teaspoon of sugar half a teaspoon of salt one teaspoon of baking soda 1/2 a cup of milk and half a cup of water there I won't have to write it so we're going to be eating this with our cooked wieners right there and then

I'm sorry I shouldn't eat your face I did not supposed to eat when your mouth is full - is very good anyway after this we're going to try it tea Jamaican teeth that Edie sent me so see you guys later well that size of Bannack will fill up to people so just to give you an idea my wife and I are full okay so now time to try some tea folks believe it's Jamaican tea

ed sent me right here

yes siree

at Banach was absolutely delicious actually

it needed to be cooked a little bit more but to be honest with you I rather like that then to cook and it's too hard I'm not sure what the amount of this I should put but you shall find out pretty soon okay I have to get some water alright so now all we have to do is wait for this water to boil up so it's safe to drink and we're going to try out this tea it's in the Sun it's very hot must be going up to 35 it's crazy but I'm in the shade and someone else over there is in the shade as well by the river nice and cool and there's a little breeze so

so guys once that tea is done we're going to taste test it then we're going to have a little nap and that'll be it for this video so until the tea is done I'm going to relax so see you guys in a while

fellas like my friends from the UK would say it's time for brew now let's take a look at this Jamaican who very colorful if you can see that looks like I just cook some beet

oh she likes her full cheers for one hold on there save a little bit alright let's taste this all right

gosh it does smell like beets an economy can be boom

well

first impression

it's very sour you get used to it I guess maybe you could add some a little bit of sugar to be perfect

it's very sour probably fruity or something edie if you're watching maybe you can tell us what's in this tea well anyway again I want to thank all of you guys for you know always taking the time to watch my videos I truly appreciate it and I hope you had fun with this one you know you take Vanek like that don't dirty any pans that's good for one meal you got a couple of you know wieners for this we're full really full and it tastes great so for now you guys take care and hopefully we'll see you soon yeah little bit of sugar
