all right got a few things I need to sharpen today especially my small forest axe yeah so if you can see the kinks in there but anyway and my wife's little patch it made by buck this one's going to need a lot of work and I gotta get it done because if she uses this and it's not sharp you know what I'm going to know about it and this guy needs a lot of work so yes I well why not make a video about it again same as my knives I use water stones and this is a thousand six thousand grit I know some of you will be asking I I got these water stones at wood crafts calm right just in case you are interested now the way I do the sharpening of an axe obviously I do not carry water stones in the field the women when I'm at home I just love to use this you know knives or an axe now with an axe I'm always go you know a circular motion why I do that this way is simply because that's how I'm used to it and I find also that you know it seems to work a lot faster than just normal you know but anyway that's my preference and what I do because the AXA is a little bit wider the cutting edge is wider and because I'm going in circular motion I like to just you know put my water stones at an angle so I can work this way right now when you do go in circular motions make sure again that your angle is right right this way you want to keep it as convex as you can and at the same time when you do the tips here on both sides you're going to need to tilt it a little bit on both ends right

I just go in circular motions like this when I do the tips I just lift up the handle here a little bit like that or the other way to do the tips now you may be asking to make a video about sharpening knives well I have one if you're interested already now if you're good with your left hand all you need to do is turn on the other side this way if not just turn that way and go backwards right so I have no problem with my left hand make sure to keep your angle always right you don't want to flatten the edge keep the convex that's what makes the blade strong

training's all of the flat surface the water stone one if you can so I'm going to keep on working on this guy's and when I'm done on this side I'll show you the other side of the stone here when I do right into the finishing stone is to weld that edge nicely so it stays sharp I'm going to use the six thousand grit you

this time I know my blades are sharp I don't need to go as fast to finish it right

a little bit of water it's important to keep your water stone wet makes the stone work better and you know more efficient now in the field obviously I don't carry this but I would recommend or suggest what they call a puck you will use the puck the same way as this but instead of moving the blade on the stone you move the stone on the blade and it's a lot safer for the fingers

okay think this should pretty well be good enough for me anyway all right so let's me put this back of it how can I test okay with this thing we let's see if this guy passes the test of time see that's what I like about cutting paper doesn't just show you could sharpen it shows you exactly where there might be a problem there's a little problem right here if you go slowly with your piece of paper so that it is anyway hmm one thing I want to tell you when I say I said this in another video if you do this can you try and cut paper it doesn't cut that well it does not mean your blade is not sharp right don't get discouraged by that you know sometimes it's just some barrels that are still on the side that up on your paper and stop you from cutting a nice line so don't get discouraged by that but the paper test is a good test to see where the faults are and I have a little one just about here if I put my blade at an angle I could see it's just like little dot but you know what I wouldn't want to be the tree that meets this thanks for watching guys Oh spike on the chef's bars bye
