welcome to a cabin fever day now I've been planning to do this for quite a little while and I think today is a good day to do this there's a 164 and the 162 crook knife or stone knife by Mora these two here ah I have always looked at these handles to be kind of boring and plain so I'm going to try and change that and this is what this video is going to be about now as I mentioned before in other videos I have no talent whatsoever and maybe you're wanting to do this and you think you don't know what you're doing and maybe you don't want to do because of it well let me tell you half the time I don't know what I'm doing either so that being said sometimes it turns out okay sometimes it doesn't but I don't think we could do much worse than this that's what's neat about Maura even if you're thinking about the knives more more classics have wooden handles like this the red not you can make it your own so that's what we're going to try and do this so the first thing I'm going to want to do is because i'll be working mostly on this handle I guess want to cover this just in case you cut yourself right you don't want that to happen so just going to use some tape

I'm just going to start her off here make sure you don't cover the wood just the first part that's making sure that first thing I want to do is to send these down just a little bit so I'm just going to use whatever I have around this is a 180 180 ok so now that it's sanded down like I want it I'm just thinking I don't really know what I'm going to do with it I'm going to burn something then but I'm not quite sure what yet how this is going to burn this is hard would probably birch let's see

so birds quite easily actually because i'm just going to burn some few branches

just going to wait till it heats up a bit more we'll be right back so I have place on these two sides here making up the other side's let's see what this does

okay maybe i push too much here

at ain't too bad alright so now I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with this one really Oh

hmm

let's try maybe just separating I'll just try and separate it into here see how that goes still not sure what I'm doing it's made a few lines and some X's here at the end again it's nothing out of this world just a couple branches on this one I guess you'd call them and this one I have no idea i'm going to leave it just plain like this don't ask me what it is I don't know but it's going to stay like that now next what I'm going to do is I'm just going to scuff off a little bit here the burnt parts and we're going to play a little bit with some and let me show you I've got some stain here water stains this is what I use minwax and they got two colors i got this kind of brown i got a black soap about that we're going to try and play with that first I'm just going to send that down bit okay so I've got black and walnut got the wallet on this side I've got the black on the other side and you know its water based so it's easy come off your fingers so I don't mind playing I don't mind playing with my fingers with this so on this one here I'm just going to let's see what and it doesn't take much of it really okay let's see what this does so I'm going to put just a little bit of black and mix it just by the edge here and we'll go with that now I'm not staining furniture so you know I know you're supposed to go with a light coat you know make a nice Street don't want any but this is different okay cuz i'm planning on doing something else with this i'm going to be resounding this so just going to put a nice coating this and so for this one i think i'm not going to mix the colors but maybe separate between these two I smell line here so let's just go with the normal brown and what I'll do after is go with the black for the other half this side here and what I'll do is maybe use the black and just slightly at certain points this cross the barrier here and we'll see once we sand it a little bit how it comes out okay so the top is black bottom is brown and I just see the line is here I just went over bit at some places there quite a bit but that's okay you can always clear around with that now the trick right now is to be patient and make sure this is completely dry then we're going to play with a very light sand paper okay so now it's all pretty well dried up I'm going to use a no thousand sandpaper grit and just send what I want to be sanded that's slightly okay two handles were sanded down

so what she looks like now you see the way I do it it doesn't really matter if your narda store not in the sense of burning stuff in just find it looks old and kind of cool this is the other one alright got a few more things to do before these are done okay next thing just going to make sure the matter if there's a little bit on the wood it'll be fine create a patina on it with vinegar so what I do after it's out I take it out of the vinegar when I'm satisfied I'll normally just rinse it with hot water you know just to take any vinegar smells anyway and wait a little bit and there's going to be a light rusty film on it that I then wipe off with a rag of course you got to be careful as you do this you don't want to cut yourself if you wait a little longer the rag won't you won't be able to take it off so what you can need to do is use a very light sandpaper and sand it off and it will give you a nice patina look now obviously this will come off as you use it you know the friction against the wood some of it will come off and when you sharpen it but for me this is more for the looks than anything else so

obviously this has to be stainless steel I take a little bit of this off here a little bit of work and the last thing will be to put a very light coat of linseed oil and we're done well there you have it folks the project cabin fever project is done complished I think it makes it kind of unique yep I'm satisfied now again you see you don't have to be an artist to be able to do these kinds of things and it doesn't cost hardly anything just a little bit of time and patience and you make your tools your own so I suggest that if this is something you want to do do it and I'm sure it's going to come out great this is mike from busch reports thanks for watching bye you

you
