alright so today I'm at Billy's you know Billy if you don't I'm going to post a pretty video of the last video I had with him if you want to know a little bit a little bit about him today I'm just spending the day with them you want to learn how to make some birch bark oil so that's what we're going to do just to give you a basic how to after that you'll just you know just follow as we do it what you need is about a gallon tin can right and another little can that's empty what you do is make punch a hole right in the middle here now I did a video in 2009 about this and don't have it anymore so I decided to repost it for you guys maybe we never saw this before so the first thing you have to need or are you going to need I mean is these two things another thing that you're gonna have to do is make a hole about a foot and a half deep foot and a half in diameter going like a funnel now this what's going to happen this is what the oil is going to collect into and you're going to put the whole like this this is going to go in your hole why we dig a hole is just to be able to make a fire because you're going to have to burn a fire around it and on it for about an hour and a half to two hours but you'll see that as we go along I just to give you a few specs about birchbark oil if you've never done this before again don't do don't do this in an enclosed area I know you wouldn't do that but I still have to say it because this thing is toxic toxic the hard time talking today

few things you can do with this oil glue use it for torches and lamps also medicinal properties I think it was defiance I can't really remember title that movie but they used it for small skin diseases rashes they would use the birch bark oil you know mix a little bit with hey that's abilities go mix a little bit of oil with some animal fat and put that on there rashes and they're supposedly went away also I saw a documentary most of you saw two in Siberia they would use this they still use this oil for a bug repellent you just mix it again a little amount with fish oil and put it all around their bodies and it seems to work so anyway first thing I need to do is dig a hole and then from there you guys can just watch as and go along so the next step you don't want to take the birch bark and just throw it in there like this right

try and get if you can same width as the cat if not it's ok and what you're going to do is take some layers put them in because what you want to do is roll it now there's not enough i'm just giving you an example you're going to want to roll it and when it's bad enough as fat as the entrance you put it in why do we do this because the oil is going to come down from here from the edges so if you want to get the maximum that's what you got to do if not all your oil is going when you take this out we're going to have oil all over the place instead of going down the funnel here I create it well you can get the maximum oil so what I'm going to do is going to I'm going to get the right amount and after that we'll show you the next step okay now that the hole is made put in a half a foot and a half take this I'm going to show Billy all you need to do is this try and put it level you don't want to get any earth in it because you don't want that in your glute

this is full of birch bark put the oil one of the whole we're just going to go make sure it doesn't spill and then you put it up around it earth

you want to put enough just a cover the edge

the edge between the first pot in the second pot

because as this birds up you don't want to leave any air between because if you do fires going to catch in there and your oil going to burn so this is plenty all we need to do is build a fire good bill the fight over it for about an hour and a half to two hours we got spectators today hey ok so what to do is make a fire on top two hours an hour and a half two hours max and then we'll take a look at it don't go away yes

in two hours you want to gently take off the

holes

take your time then let it cool off when you take this hand off

oh yeah

oh wow

alright

so you let it cool off see that amount produced about about an inch in this can the sweat was getting my eyes you see there's your birch bark oil so now you let it cool off you tell the goats not to go in the hope that you're gonna get burned then you can store it or make it blue right away it's up to you let me just give you a little instructions on glue now the recipe i use is you mix this up with charcoal you guys don't want to do that two parts oil one part charcoal charcoal excuse me and another one which I find even better is three parts resin one part charcoal and one part rabbit poop or deer poop okay cuz resin itself this is not resin but its oil but it does the same as resin it's going to be brittle if you don't put anything consistent in it charcoal is going to make it stronger and the poop from the bunny is going to make it smoother so you can have yourself a nice blue if you need to stick something together or patch something now I recommend that you always keep the main component which is resin more than the rest like the 3110 there's one part more resin now I know you guys will be curious to see what's left in here it's going to be crystallized just like when you're using a chimney with the wood stove no those particles left from the soup

well after a hard day's work of making birch bark oil in 30 degrees Celsius weather nothing like a good meal nothing like good old goat I'm just kidding guy is this dear hi hey get

let me just cut a piece it can be fussy there's flies everywhere but that's okay cut a piece for you guys any of you like to eat come on take it what's taking off to lie about it today hope you learn something just a little shout out Billy started his his own channel a couple of months ago if you don't know about Billy I'm going to put the link of one of our videos below it explains who he is and what he does and the other link is going to be a link to his channel which is bitty and his adventure if you're interested in 18th century well yet 19th century 90 living in cabin yeah 19th century history if you're interested in bushcraft if you're interested in what they ate what they were wearing yipper smelling like a go hahahaha no no that he's got you know natural humor he's fun to watch so you guys just check his channel out and subscribe and Billy thank you very much for this I thanks Marion so much for you guys take care of income reichenbach rap is it that
