all right so tapping down the snow in the previous or one or two videos ago anyway show you how to make a fire for long term and how your fire should be done if you want you know to work stay hot but it's also possible to create a fire on top of deep snow if you're you know in a rush need to heat up some you know some drink heat up some food I know just get a little bit warmed up very possible now what I just done here is just flatten the ground a little bit because if I don't and I put my platform on there this fluffy snow when the fire starts going to want to you know after burning awhile tend to go one way or the other and then I fire the whatever coals I have you know accumulated we'll just go in the snow so I just you know tap it down try to get the air out so it stays as even as possible now Lonnie from fresh air just done a great video on creating a fire on the snow you don't need to use a platform all you need to do if you have to is just start your fire like that right on top of the snow no problems the only thing is that you're going to have to feed it all the time and after a while it's going to create a hole and if you don't know what to do

you're going to lose your fire so what I want you know a stable fire I'll just use a simple platform on the top and again if you're in a rush you need to get warmed up there's nothing wrong and grab all kinds of kindling and make a great big pile on top of the snow full of tinder under lighter up you can have a nice great big fire keep on feeding it it's going to take a longer time to sink in but at least you'll have some heat for your need so right now even though I'm in this storm I'm pretty I'm not perfectly positioned in the sense that I still got some wind but I got some tendering a key birchbark there and kindling all around me so the first thing and you can do is just find myself some wood to create a platform they're as simple as that I got some kindling already start my fire flattening the flattening the ground obviously you seen I flattened a lot more than where the fire is well I do this simply because once I got all my material

I can take my snow shoes off and walk without thinking

into the snow now what I'm looking for when you do this

just a stable controllable short-term fire for just in all your having some coffee so just warming up a bit

that wind is happy to be in here out there is and of course I've had I don't know how many questions concerning

concerning snow why in my videos this winter you've seen me you know just go to the creek and use the water instead of all the snow that's around me melting it down a lot of questions on that well most of you most of you know this the snow is composed of 90% air and 10% water ice is the other way around 90% water 10% air it's very easy to remember knowing this I use the water when it's available because you know it's time-saver fuel saver takes a lot more fuel in time to get the amount of water I want from snow and when the water is already there now I've always done that I've always used water if it's available ice and if it doesn't if it's not available I will use the snow like today I'm going to use the snow because there's no water available nowhere here so that's the only reason in case you didn't know right now we're going to get this fire going because I'm getting thirsty for a nice what I like to do is because it's a great insulator to pop out the air and the snow you don't try and make you become like a piece of ice let them melt much faster much easier put a little bit at a time it's going to melt if you fill up with snow but there's always a danger of damaging your pan because it insulates so much now because I don't need much water and because well because I don't need much and I don't have water around me I will do this another reason why I keep I like to put a

platform if I can say it that way is to keep my fire hot we all know that when there's cold it will eventually keep the fire always at the same temperature so I can boil down my water and have a quick coffee at the same time it's not going all over the place it's not making a whole

it's warming me up now when doing this there's no Russian filling it up with wood it's just a small fire for a little while let's put a few sticks once in a while remember you got coals you see how stable it is I'm telling you I'm happy for trees because it ain't the same thing here and it is out there thank God all right she's a boiling now one other thing which I rarely do I'm still going to tell you if you want your platform to last longer I don't know for any reason at all you want to stay longer few hours more use Greenwood as your platform all right now is the time now this fancy thing pot hanger is not just fancy it's very useful because I don't need to burn myself all right there

put me a little bit of coffee a little bit more right a little bit of sugar there

oh why not just in case a little more coffee there so great little thing there must be at least two feet of snow here all right so mix that up hmm

put her back on just get her warmed up and

well this winter is long doesn't seem to want to go away we've been hit by storms this is the 22nd March 2013 supposed to be spring

Oh

brought myself a treat oh yeah little bit crushed but soft and chewy cookie with nice little pieces of chocolate yep that'll be good with coffee it's my breakfast actually oh man this is life boys and girls all right

ready she's a smoke sir

there

come to Daddy now I want to keep my coffee a little bit warm not boiling so I'll just stick her there this aside out

hot-hot

all right so I guess that'll be pretty much it for this video you guys pray for spring cuz I'm in need of it alright hey maybe it's been a while since you guys been out why don't you plan something this weekend try and take your wife your kids your whole family out do something make a lunch anything maybe just you and your wife maybe a one-on-one with your son your daughter you know you don't have to be in the middle of the woods to go out go to your local park bring a book try it and identify the trees there I don't know but go out it's really relaxing it's a need and it doesn't cost much so I'm going to finish burning a little wood I have there because I don't want to waste it have my wonderful cookie rest of my wonderful coffee just relax and I guess we'll see you soon you

you

you

you
