make ourselves a single in 5 i'm going to show you how to make a simple signaling fire now obviously this is small scale we want to attract any attention right but you want you're going to want it to be at least you know around six six feet tall around that area now you've got a typical just a normal tripod with pieces of wood on the exterior going around the tripod and why use a tripod well the simple thing is it will act as you know a chimney effect just go up so that's the first thing you want to do now let me get to zoom in closer hold on so the next thing we're going to want to find some pieces of wood and just crisscross them like this want to leave a nice little gap in between it doesn't really matter if you know goes on both sides like that now the reason why you want to leave a gap in between for a signifier you wanted to take your time and make sure that you make it do it right because obviously you want this to work and the other reason it's got to work quickly so when you have a space in between the pieces of wood obviously it's going to have taken lots of oxygen you want this to you know flare up as fast as possible so just take pieces of wood like this spread them I've got something like an inch an inch and a half in between the pieces then whenever dry stuff you're fine like right now I got some birch bark you just put them on the pieces of wood now I forgot leaves dry firms over whatever the case may be it'll be good as well so again the main thing is I want this to catch as fast as possible so this is hanging below of the loss of oxygen flow going up so when I do light it up and you want to do this all around your pieces so just give me a second I'll do this it'll be ride back all right so so far first stage of it is done again this will catch easy there's still some nice hole first stage of fire you get it from under I got stuff hanging under so it'll catch one thing I forgot to mention your base pieces here for the singling fire you don't want to put them too small like twigs you want fair sized pieces because if you don't your fire these pieces are going to burn your fire is going to follow through the ground and this will not be effective you want to keep this fire there for at least a minute as long as you can so that the top you know starts to burn so what I'm going to do next I'm just going to add now this is small scale so it's a little bit more difficult to do I'm just going to spread a few more of this birch bark now as I said before if you don't have perch bark you can use anything you have dry dry leaves you know anything that that you know burns quickly grass so next step is to put kindling so now i'm at the other stage of this shoved up some nice twigs you don't want to crush them up too much you know just put a nice amount

so now you're pretty much all set to put whatever green greenery you got now I've got boughs here so that it's just a matter of poking them in now if you don't have boughs of course you can use any green you got vows will work it's probably the best thing to have because they produce smoke very fast if you got leaves ferns I mean that'll work too it just takes a little longer to produce smoke but it still works so let me finish doing this so after you've put all your greenery and you're satisfied you're all set now doesn't look much like a chimney effect right now that's because it's small scale and sure to use smaller branches but you know what i mean when you make it really big it'll do it but this will work anyway so after that's done i left an opening here with some tinder that I'm going to use and something that I can just take out and put back in and have complete control so when you know I do need it it's going to be quick if you're in an area where it's a little bit windy obviously with the bigger signaling fire if you're afraid of the bow so you know fly away you can just add some poles or some big green branches or whatever branches you got just to keep it steady now this way having my tinder already there it'll keep it somewhat everything that's under somewhat dry because of the bow that I put on top if ever it rains all right so let's light her up so if you're wanting to try this at home you make sure that you're an open field or an area a pit where there's no danger to start forest fires now I was in the middle of the woods and I was well equipped to put that fire I was close to a river and I had well good equipment to put it out because this thing when it starts going the flames a little really high and if you're not careful and you've got all kinds of stuff it's very dangerous so make sure you're an open field or you know a pit sometimes if your are lost you know like here there's no clearings so you won't have much of a choice to make something wherever your campsite is that will be trees around so even when you're lost or you want to make this singling fire make sure nothing can burn clear round and even though it's full of trees around if you you know you go by sound if you hear a plane or a helicopter knowing it's not like you're in the field and you see it but you go by sound you hear something you light her up make sure everything is clear lighter up and that smoke will go through those trees and if he's you know he'll see it if you you know if he's passing by another way let's give you an example I don't know you get your you realize you're lost whatever the case is and you just make your campsite start a fire don't have time to build that because it takes you know I don't know maybe half an hour or maybe a bigger one let's say an hour so you get your campsite get your fire going don't have time to build it one thing you can do is gather up valves whatever greenery again you have and keep it close to your main fire even though it's not perfectly positioned if something passes and you hear it sometimes it happens fast you won't have time to build that fire a singing fire so all you need to do with your existing campfire and take the branches nice bundle and just throw it on that thing will smoke like crazy there's no problem there and if you are there a couple of days you can still build it keep your fire going because you'll probably have to you know boil some water some drinking water for for the day so always keep your fire going so you'll have two positions if you have when I don't know somewhere else and have this you'll have two chances of getting spotted so anyway enough of my babbling I hope this was interesting to you and I am NOT going to waste that fire she's ready

so you see how important it is to you'll take the time to do it so it works I know if you noticed you know if you notice how long it took from the time I started it until it started smoking

well when that plane or helicopter passes sometimes you cannot go beyond that so that's why it's important to do it right the first time can be in a rush especially at a single infer but as I said if you don't have time at least prepare some vows or whatever you have green or your main camp fire will be better than nothing well this coffee is going to be some good and it was very cold this morning Mike well very cold it was below freezing okay just cool off a little bit sweet

so appreciate all of you thanks for watching this is mike from Bush Jeb barking take it
