alright so this video is a part of a challenge now before I get into it don't get mad at me because I know there's a lot of challenges going on for the last month's tags and stuff and I'm not doing this one for preference it's just I don't have time to keep up with all of them this is just because it's right now and I'm in the woods and it's something that's pretty simple to do now the one doing this is tito he's in Germany I believe Tito his challenge is first aid simple first aid from wound care to broken leg I'm going to go for the simple one and that's wound care but an effective one though so what it is is the balsam fir more specifically the balsam pitch or resin that contains balsam fir compared to all the resinous trees has the most medicinal properties and antiseptic but we'll talk about that later on you can do so many things with that balsam fir but we're going to stick to wound care so give me a second i'm going to gather some material and i'm going to pretend that I / my hand here with a deep wound so I'm going to try and take care of that because the challenge is also has to be natural everything natural so don't go away it's good

alright so the first thing I've collected is spruce root which is going to be my last thing I'm going to need is obviously I'm gonna need to tie off my bandage now I dug out this bigger one because it was there available because I want to tell you a little bit about this now spruce root is amazing because it's already ready there's no weaving or anything and it's really strong guy here in Quebec actually made a test out of something like this or a little bit bigger concerning how strong it was 150 pounds 150 pounds now that's amazing obviously it's made for you know tying some shelters and stuff but this once it's dry very very strong I'm going to keep this one here for that bring it to camp it's not your 550 paracord but I guess you could call it 150 spruce court alright so this is the one I'm going to be using now obviously you can you know use it as is but it's going to be a little bit big for my simple wound so i'm going to show you the same time how you can split this i've done this in other videos split in two so it's more pliable and easier to use now you want to take off this bark that it contains all right but with your hands it can be a little bit of a pain so what you can do is just find a piece of wood that's dry and just want to split it in two your time

this a little bit like this and you want to square off aside here ok just like that

ok

next

I'm going to put in the route inside and obviously I'm going to do this site first the edge that you cut is it going to be the one that's going to clean you want to put some pressure close it not too much but just enough to be able to clean off as much as you can of the root this one's a little dry do it again see your think that it takes off all right so that's pretty good for now now if you want to split it take this off right here just split it into so much as you can in the middle this is not hard to split so use the route to push out the knife so all you want to do I'm just going to

let's take your time if one thick n you know sometimes it doesn't want to stay in the middle like this side here is thicker and wants to go that way if you want it to bring it back in the middle bend this one a little bit more and it's going to come back right in the middle C came back right in the middle so you just take your time and you split this into until you get enough cordage that you desire for your tying so I'll continue with this and we'll look for the second ingredient don't go away all right just for you guys that are new at this spruce root just to show you how this is flexible and strong you can use it as is it

now stay there forever I just died it there so I can pick up later but very strong and flexible alright so now I got my stuff time for the next ingredient second ingredient now let's go to our main ingredient all right this is not the main ingredient that I'm gonna need some of this moss perfect now let's go to the main ingredient all right so now we are all set to take care of that wound main ingredient balsam resin I'll show you right at the end of the video how you can you know easily identify it you know compared to I know let's say the spruce or hemlock because that's what grows other trees that grow around it but what any now is what is in these little bubbles so if you can wash your wound with water first now just going to make a little incision at the bottom right then of course I move let's say I moved on this hand will be easier I'll just push on it get all that lovely liquid out and your wound is like that you want to cover your wound with this resin and you don't need that much actually this is plenty so now now the wound is see this is not just sticky it's oily and I explain why the wound is covered has covered the womb sorry her resin has covered the wound this type of balsam fir pitch is composed of 75 or around seventy percent resin and about thirty percent oil now the antiseptic properties are contained in the oil itself so what what's going on right now is my wound is sealed up because of the resin and the oil that's against the wound is actually killing whatever bacteria is in there so now I want to you know I don't want this to rub off or to get sticky all over the place so what I like to use you can use you can use your typical old man's beard but I rather spank the moss because it's a lot more comfortable and also contains iodine there's also intercepted in there so I'll take the green and put it on the top this all right now I'm going to need my wife's assistance because I'm going to make an awful job of the rest so don't go away so now we have the resin that's under now I have the Spangler moss that's over it so you don't you know you don't want to rub it off somewhere and at the same time it's it's it's comfortable now I want something to hold it there lights choice is going to be your simple birch bark now if you want it to be more comfortable you can put another moss on the top that's a little bit of a pain so we'll make it simple so I'm going to use this put it on

wonder now my wife is going to it's nice and even right around just hold on hold on a second okay one more time there now I'll need to do is cut the ends and you have a nice little band-aid anyways you get my point this way my wound is secure and until you get to some proper medical help this is my little tip on wound care obviously it's nice to be to to do this but it's doable alone it's a little bit more work but doable alright guys I hope you enjoyed this little video it's a great information actually if you have these trees and obviously I don't have all the time and and the knowledge actually to tell you how this tree contains so much stuff this resin we used to eat this resin as kids like candy it's good for colds for so many things but I want to concentrate on Tito's challenge I hope this is okay with your dito I know it's not spectacular but it's a very effective way of taking care you know you don't have to use exactly this as long as you have this resin it's going to work well you can use something else like old man's beard or some other cordage a big leaf whatever but because these things are tough and strong I know that they'll and plus waterproof so anyway Tito I thank you for this challenge you guys I don't know Tito I'm going to put these his lick link excuse me at the bottom of the screen he's in Germany and his videos are in German but guys in bushcraft most of the time all you need is picture very cool very nice guy he's funny you know his and plus he's got these outtakes that he films very cool so if you want to take a look just check them out and again thanks for the challenge and thank you for watching this is mike from musharraf partners bye
