hey guys I was asked by some of you to repost my a tinder fungus video but I decided not to repost it instead I'm gonna redo it and I remember the spot where I'd seen one and explained stuff to you and for those of you who've a lot of videos were requested to repost and be patient with me I'll do I'm trying to do it in order of the people that asked me but this time we're going to this time when I concentrate on two tinder fog fungus or Shagga so stay with me I'll be right back [Applause]

all right

I found it if you can see it it's right there now Oh

first thing first thing about true tender fungus

okay or chaga there's a lot of things we can talk about this the place where you're going to find it where I usually find is by rivers or you know wetlands not swampy lions but wetlands you're going to find it on which tree to you find it you'll find it on the birch the whole family of birch trees like the the white birch silver birch and yellow birch right now it's on this yellow birch here I found some also on maples any tree that you think will produce quite a bit of SAP you have a good chance of finding these now it's important when you go in the woods to keep an eye open because in general the tender to dinner fungus is found on two trees every 10,000 trees and that's in general so it's not something very common like the Amma do or stuff like that

so keep an eye open what is true tinder fungus what creates this it's a bacteria that's airborne and when a tree is injured this bacteria will go infiltrate itself into the wound and start producing what you see right in front of me here now this keeps on growing until the tree stays alive when you see this and you ask this question is it ok to harvest it should I harvest it is it going to damage the tree absolutely harvest it it's there for us guys because

keep in mind that when you do see and find this the tree is going to die anyway like this tree here is dying so if I don't pick it up this true tender fungus is going to waste and fall on the ground like powder now usually a tree will last about seven years with this and again this true tender fungus will flower before it dies so concerning the harvesting there's no problem now let me talk to you a little bit about what the exterior of it what you see here the black part is not what you're looking for okay

I mean that's not the fungus this black is a type of bark that grows on it actually to protect the fungus itself from the elements what you want is what's inside now I'm going to ask you to be patient a little bit and I'm going to take a piece off and I'll show you exactly what it looks like alright so now I just took a piece off here this is what you want is this yellow stuff here which is the true tinder fungus all right I just took a piece off here what I'm going to do because it's a little bit dark in this area right now we're going to find that place where it's a lot brighter so I can talk more about this so stay tuned alright what are the advantages of true tender fungus or Shagga what can you do with this there's a lot of things you can do the first thing is fire-making now there's a lot of of names that people use to name this but I personally named this the natural charcoal of the bush because that's exactly what it does and I'll show you a little bit later on but the first thing that you can do with this is fire-making you take a piece off and you if you have anything to create any sparks it will catch a spark now a lot of people have been asking me if this can be done fresh like this right off the tree well if you're in a place where it's a dry season it could be in the summer it could be in the winter and it's dry yes you can but if it's humid I mean you're going to need to drive this a little bit if it is a little bit moist what I usually do is I'll take a piece off and I'll use a rock and bring it to powder and you know just make myself a bird's nest and make sure that my powder goes on the top and that way it'll be much easier to catch a spark another question is how does this feed off the tree well it takes all this app or a lot of the SAP and all the nutrients from the tree that's why the tree eventually dies other way of making fire with this you can use the bow and drill you know if you put this on the ground and you put your spindle on the top here and spindle it inside you'll bring it to a globe

all right so for fire making it's great another thing by the way this fungus here is completely harmless for the human being for our bodies actually it has a light antiseptic in it if you make it burn and you have a minor headache you breathe the smoke in it'll take it away and actually this smells very nice guys it smells great I just love the smell it's it's unique also all right as I was saying great for fire making as I said you get a spark on this and it's going to glow and get you know get ready for your

your birds nests and blow it into a flame also the bow drill you can do it on this and it will create a glow so you can also put it in a bird's nest and blow it into flame smoke good for headaches smoke is also a natural bug repellent bugs just hate this smoke guys they'll stay away from you another thing if you happen to find yourself a huge piece a big piece I've found some big big pieces you could actually light up all the top and use it as a stove you just put your billy can on there and you know boil yourself some water for coffee and or cook some stuff of course it doesn't take five minutes to boil but takes longer but it works what I'm going to do is I'm just going to show you with the piece that I brought from home I'm going to light it up with a flint and steel and show you what it looks like now to light this up it's not like charcoal charcoal is the easiest thing to light up with the flint and steel this may take a little a little while to light it up something else you can do with this guy's if you happen to bring some home I use this often you cook fish you cook anything you just like a little piece up in the in the house and it'll kill all the bad odors like fish and all that stuff why does it do it well it's got antiseptics properties in it and antiseptic properties well killed kills bacteria bacteria is bad odor so that's why I call it natural charcoal because that's exactly what it does it's an awesome piece of natural actually it does quite a bit of things if you happen to find any grab it bring it home and this is also something else that I called is the gold of the trees it's really neat and if you happen to find some as I said bring it home smells great here's sniffed a little bit of it kidding all you got to do now is ready to put it in your bird's nest and blow it into flames great stuff I hope this was a little helpful for those of you that don't know about this again as one of my good friends says every time he goes in the bush he goes shopping so keep your eyes open watch for that black stuff and when you find it you'll be very happy this is Mike from bushcraft partners

one last thing guys I forgot to mention very important for us guys that love tea this makes a great tea all you need to do is take a piece off put it in boiling water you can boil it 10 minutes 20 minutes up to you the more you boil it the stronger is going to be will taste great it's got almost the same properties as green tea Thanks
