you guys want to see some water nice warm rain yesterday was just a beautiful day and that snow is finally melting away which I'm very happy about anyway I thought I would start working on the if you remember the not the previous video for the video before the burl I cut off that tree it was like most boroughs but this one was really tough to cut off I even damaged the saw blade in my book saw but but you see what happens

sadly once I've cleaned it there's not much left on it I'll show you so I decided to make a spoon this is on this side see it's rotten there you know once you clean it off you're gonna have some kind of punky wood and so yes I did decide to make a spoon or I'm gonna attempt to anyway and this time I had to trace it trace my spoon that I want to make starting here to make sure that I get the right now I don't fall into these rotted holes and and this is gonna be part of my bowl area see

now because it's you know burrows are beautiful I love burrows the only problem is carving them you know the grain is going all over the place and it's tough this is I just played with a little bit cleaning it up and man this thing was hard so ok enough complaining I am anxious to actually get into it but the first thing I'm going to do is I'm going to solve as much as I can of the excess material that I will not be using because it'll be much easier and then I'll use probably a little hatchet and finish off with the knife and spoon a knife or crook knife all right let's do this

well tell her she's one tough cookie of course I'm not properly equipped but still doesn't change the fact that she was tough this is what it looks like so far no it doesn't look like much right now this is I know it's gonna be hard to do this pieces pretty cool the grain in that huh straight yeah it's got some nice grain okay what I'm going to do next is use my little hatchet and just carefully trim some pieces and then we'll get into the spoon knife and knife so that's next I think I've done enough damage with thee X

now we'll be spoon knife and night when they gotta fix this end here somehow I'm going to lose the length a little bit of my spoon but anyway okay next step well tell you I'm sweating as if I just ran a marathon this tough this I mean this wood is so tough really hard maybe I should have carved it where I was half green or something no wait till it was hard like this I have never ever carved something that is so hard you know you got knots you got grain all over the place so you have you really don't have any direction to go today I'm using the another more knife this one is has to cutting it just one that side and on the other side and this was graciously given to me by Pete thank you so much Pete the knife is awesome it goes well it's just that this is crazy look at that it's not going in its you just show you if you can see that but I can't take any bigger shavings in that they're very thin so it's gonna take a while before I able to do anything I don't think I know but I don't think I'm gonna re ever do this again burros are beautiful but my goodness you know unless you have the right tools as I said before I can't imagine making a bowl out of this you know just with this knife very very difficult but I guess slowly but surely took a little break from the bowl killing my hand so start to work a little bit on the handle let me tell you some crazy greens coming out of this boy who Moorea go deep the more beautiful it is but

all right so so far crazy

now focus in you both so tough she thing is about this hardwood and that's what I usually do and any you know the style of my spoons before I start digging out I'm gonna go around the shape that I want and dig evenly now with this type of wood I done the same thing but if you want to be able to succeed I guess or be patient you can't go just dig it in like you want cuz I mean it won't work now this knife here is very sharp not because it's not sharp what I do now instead of I just concentrate on one certain point okay and you just just took the knife work and take a little bit off by the time as you go see that's the only way you'll be able to succeed this crazy grain

okay well I'm fairly happy with the bowl pretty much done I'll be deep enough what this spoon is for obviously it's not a soup spoon I'm pretty crazy marine on this thing know that

now I have to work on this bowl back in of it and the handle and of course a little bit of everything so again slow slow process but yeah at a time

okay when it comes to your the handle part now of course this is me you know I like the what goes into my mouth to be nice and smooth okay this is perfect now I still have to do the inside but when it comes to the handle you don't need to make it perfect you can leave all kinds of bumps as long as your sound is nice so it's give it a little bit of a style here know if you can see that you see these bumps as long as you get all the it's nicely sanded you can leave those bumps in if you want make today okay I'm done in the Sandia you know when I usually make my spoons if you guys have seen my other spoons I was this is the one I always carry let's try and make it you know so it's all nice and perfect but you know they're not perfectly all nice and shaped round perfect wrapping up enough of that here's another one this time I said to myself I'm not doing it with this spoon I'm gonna make it different I mean the bowl of it is okay worked harder on that but on the to see it you see all these lovely bumps I left it on there how did those bumps old make it different there's nothing wrong with being different right and it actually looks like a normal branch I'll try and get closer a little bit but so I don't like I usually do I sanded it to wait a little bit wait for it to dry see we're at the Senate again and now it's perfect so this is the moment of truth right now as usual use my mineral oil oh boy Wow man that burl has some nice grain right there

well pretty much I'm very satisfied actually

let me try look at that all right focus hold on oh yeah so now you'll see it a little bit better and she turned out to be quite the unique spoon don't need to burn this one guys see all the little bumps and little crackers there cracks I mean you can't feel them I mean those cracks you can't feel them all right focus you see see those lines and those bumps very nice

yep very satisfied cool well that's one that's different

so anyways okay well I appreciate you're very very patient if you're still watching this as usual and if you're wanting to start you know starting to one-up carve some spoons which I strongly suggest you don't need to be now I am no expert not even close to it I have been doing this just what five years maybe and it's off and on so you know you don't get discouraged right away thinking that oh well I'm not good at it hey there's no way I was good at it right now getting a little bit better with spoons anyway just try it but I strongly suggest that you don't try a burl first okay because maybe a little discouraging because it's a little more tougher so go you're with your hardwoods you know your birch or maple whatever you got make sure it's safe and you're going to be rewarded so thanks a lot for watching appreciate everything you do for me guys take care
