all right so this is a very unusual very warm day for this time of the year well you know what bacon rules

[Music]

all right folks so first we're gonna take a look at a knife and you know play around a little bit with it I just showed you what it looks like on the belt just so you can see I'm carrying it horizontally obviously for now because it's just handy that way so let's take a look at this play around with it then we'll cook lunch okay man it's a hot day all right so so before we take a look you the black flies are back out before we take a look at this knife now this knife is made by David it's a another another knife that he added to his lineup it's called a striker and just before I show you this knife I'm going to leave a thumbnail a link to a video at the end of this video that I would like you to watch if you haven't seen it that means that's the story of David I'm not going to explain everything in this video because I've already done that but it's very very remarkable miraculous it's a miracle he's still alive and it's another miracle how he can make such great high-quality knives with this situation so please watch that at the same time the links going to be below to his email if ever you're interested in this knife and I'll leave his email under this video as well he's the one that made my Raven I know if you remember that the knife I designed just in case you didn't see it I'll show it to you ok now it comes with black g10 this one is white ivory g10 me just now I'm not gonna talk about this knife and why I was made the way was made but he's the one that you see his logo there and he was kind enough to put if you can see that hold on a second I need to get the right angle anyway there's B be there for bushcraft Barton's it's g10 and CPM 3v this is the Raven and the video you're gonna if you want to check it out talks about the story of this raven so it's it's really cool story but this video is not about the raven it's about the striker they came in this Kydex sheath the retention is just perfect on it decide your tech lock right now take a look at this thing folks a work of art i have to say it Steel is CPM 3v about 3/16 thick the blade is five and a half inches long and the handle four and a half inches long so for a fine overall of about 10 inches I did say it's CPM 3v now the bevel starts a little higher than the middle and you have a very very tiny secondary bevel to give strength to the cutting edge now take a look at this you can notice this is obviously carbon fiber okay look how beautiful that is and this is homemade he made that himself talk about that so you've got a very strong knife with strong materials it's a little larger knife for those of you that like larger knives I mean it's just a beautiful thing and the handle you know that finishing on it is just perfect I'm getting chewed by these black flies they were supposed to be dead okay stop complaining anyway the finish on it is just awesome and the handle thickness and the shape in the hand out of this world it's very comfortable David so very comfortable and because you know carbon fiber is really really strong but lightweight and this is a larger knife

it feels very lightweight okay to the touch and to the feel very controllable okay it's it's a large knife but it really really feels good so what I'm gonna do in this video is we're gonna play around with it unless these black flies really annoy me like they're doing now we're gonna see how it performs so don't go away take a look at this beauty maybe this way am i proud of this knife does it show anyway let's see what it does well nearly got stuck there you know how fun it is how you lose your boot alright probably can't see that I need to get out of this area cuz it's no good too much water too many bugs so let's find a better place [Music]

all right so I chose some twisted hemlock with full knots all around the pieces hey now normally I'd be doing a fire I would avoid this completely and believe it or not this twisted hemlock with knots is a good test for batoning or testing the heat treat on your knives of course that's your own risk this is a lot tougher than most of your hardwoods Believe It or Not hardwoods like we have here like let's say maple is way denser than that but it's more of a straight grain and has no nuts so once you get into the initial splitting it just splits wide open but these are a good test let's test it all right so let's hope that my baton holds up to the task now it's about three quarters in diameter you know it's just common sense if you got a five inch blade you don't go with it anyway okay you know that's what I'm telling you this is the best test even with the maxi tirta probably going to have to change the tones now it's something I would absolutely avoid this thing doesn't even feel yes a little bit did I say it was tough I did say it was tough very tough I'll give you a good workout anyway yep

now you're going to hear some chainsaws just because it's the time of the year the owner is doing this wood mat getting there and I'm not going to edit any of this because I wanted you to see that how hemlock is tough the blade is if even twisted in there now if you can see that okay well that's supposed to do this but a carbon fiber is tough

and you know what I'm only batoning one of these this one should prove it's naughty twisted see how crooked that is you know even though it's CPM 3v which is a super steel if not well heat treated it will bust on you but this one is going this way right now that's because the wood is twisted know if you can see that or not okay if you're tired of watching this just forward it to the end of this just because I want to show you the real time how hard it is to put on this this is not want to let go because see I'm going through six knots four knots this way against the knife plus the wood the wood is so twisted that's why it's giving me a hard time if I can get through these knots maybe it'll give me a break wow this is really twisted I really chose a piece that see the knife the knife is like this that's because I started splitting that way but it's so twisted it's twisting the knife best way to test your but I don't recommend it though

now it may seem unsafe but I'm safe doing it this way oh goodness oh I'm beat this piece of woods gonna get me come on you

so far as holding pretty good I'm the one that's not holding maybe I should be made of CPM 3v and carbon fiber okay folks if you're still watching your patient man

trust me I'm not doing the other pieces I can hardly hold the dog we're getting there folks can't even hardly hold this oh my goodness I think we're getting it come on right until the last minutes gonna give me could I have one two three nuts okay guys take my breath a bit okay look how twisted this is huh all right take a little break here well if that didn't give the knife a beating and gave me a beating whoo now I do not absolutely recommend that you do this on your knives please don't do that that's complete nonsense I'm just doing it because I'm testing David's knife for me see how really reliable it can be and going through this stuff is not something normal that you would do when you choose your piece of wood to baton with if you have to and you don't have an axe you make sure you get that nice straight piece with no knots you don't want to destroy your knife so please don't do this at home okay

but this test just with what I did should convince people how tough this thing is I beat the living crap out of it it wore me out and it's as good as it could be

I hit a few times here on the I didn't want to I know this is solid but you know I just didn't want but it's all nice and good the tip is perfect cutting edge is still shiny just a little dirty okay all right here now this thing comes out very sharp okay this thing is very sharp and I know that with the taunting it doesn't really test the cutting edge because once it goes in first intro to this widens up then your cutting edge doesn't touch anything unless you've got knots and I had plenty of knots and this thing is still very sharp maybe a little bit at the tip here which is completely normal I mean it's still very sharp to use with wood no problem but this came shaving sharp but all the rest is a one okay huh you burnt me out but water knife so far I'm totally impressed well done David that's a good way to test your blade your your your your tip now some people go like this and go with the with the grain and lift up the grain that's that's like it's not bad but it's better to just sink it in you know like quarter of an inch or more and just twist it see how a deeper you go like a nice hole yeah I went in at least at least half an inch and well I just knew this would work anyway there's my baton with it not even a chip of that usually you'd get a chip here when it's not well treated nothing nice and shiny okay so let's just pretend that I need to process some little bit of bigger wood and then I just have the knife and the wood is too big really for me to come and break with my hands and it could be dangerous so we'll just chop through a few of them the biggest are about I'd say two inches in diameter an inch and a half two inches would maybe a little bit bigger but we'll see how it does sweat in my eyes mon inch and a half two inches this is again

hemlock I'm using this hard hemlock it's always a good test even with these branches

skyla wait

even the branches on a hemlock or twisted unbelievable this tree the natives used to call this though the bending tree because it would take some steam you know heating bend and they'd make a what's that name top begins to balkans whatever that's let thing that really twist it try and go straight sorry for that try and go at an angle 45 but it brings you okay this here is going to be a tougher one no problem it with a toe okay yeah I'll do it that was a 2-incher okay so all that is good what about some simple tasks now this is very tough as you know and sadly well it's damn but still let's see how it slices not there get through that not very nice very nice and plus my wood is not even a nice full of knots and this thing is making some nice slices for a large knife you know usually the larger knives if you don't have a good slicer you're gonna have a problem every time you come in slice the tip wants to go up this way and you're always trying to force it back down because it's not sharp enough and it fatigues your forearm you know if I if I do a push cut like this and once it gets there I'm like that you're still pushing to make it go down like that so if it's not sharp or if it's not if the bevel is not made right you're gonna fatigue your hand but this one look I go straight and it's going super well that get into knots though whoo Wow make some nice curls I'm trying I'm not trying to leave it on the stick there I'm just you want your feather sticks that's what you're a fan of it curls nice effort you know without any efforts or hardly any way nice and sharp don't you like that sound when a knife is sharp on wood man I love that I love that sound what can I say whoops I just ruined my feather sticks let's try to make little smaller ones go slower so I need to go too fast oh those flies are really a pain anyway feather sticks nice there's all the small tests that thing there's nuts here so much more easier and of course we can't leave out my Raven made by David that's another great little knife yes sir man ok so what can I say about the striker from David hmm well there's not much to say this thing performed flawlessly in pretty much every tasks of course you know it's a larger blade it's higher so if you have like little smaller notches it won't go as well but it's not really made for that even though it can do it but for what it's made for this thing is solid very solid I mean CPM 3v well treated it was twisted in the tree the branch or the limb whatever you want to call it it didn't break no chips no we're just a little dirty blade hardly scratched just a little bit and here is David's logo I have a lot of time with this there I mean there's beautiful carbon-fiber and just there it just feels so good in the hands I mean so good okay so anyway enough said about this knife I'm giving this nine point five out of ten just because there's no perfect knife but this one is pretty close especially for you know those of you guys who like larger knives and just want to bring one good knife and use it for a lot of tasks man really good all right now I'm getting a little bit hungry and thirsty and these bugs are a pain so we're gonna make it fire make us a lunch and why not a coffee at the same time so contrary to custom then this guy here cuz I don't want these things I'm going to start with the brand instead of the hey yet yet over here start with the red before bacon this should not take too both bacon

maple-smoked making patients safe there

now when you cook bacon over a fire and even though your coals you wait for the coals you know you wait for the flames to leave well you know you're gonna end up with this problem when the grease starts going down fire catches so you got to keep an eye it's a good thing that it's a lot of fat so it doesn't burn too quickly but you just play around with it it's not like cooking it in a pan oops don't you dare fall in there

get it out of that fire a bit you aside here you're ready hey okay that's a little bit burnt though you got to keep an eye on it because you'll end up with black stuff and even though I moved that fire it comes back so just a little tip when you cook it in the pan I mean there's no problem but over the fire like this just keep an eye she's almost there I'm not doing so bad with it a little bit more oh yeah this one looks almost perfect almost done okay so this thing is ready now this is completely awesome what can I say

oh man I can smell that smoky greasy flavors coming out okay so as I was saying this is completely viewer discretion is advised I would not do this at home please don't do this at home this is made by a professional if you do it it's at your own risk so I usually eat it this way sometimes I put you know what do you call it mustard I didn't have any mustard so I'm trying something new I'm just gonna put a little bit of mayonnaise now some people might say yeah you're ruining your sandwich no I mean these is good with everything pretty sure this is gonna be good there okay top oh my goodness does that look like a sandwich or what my three best friends right now at this moment in time thank you

providing for all my units please blesses me on my body may be strong and healthy for glory Cheers hmm

get out there and enjoy yourself this is Mike from bushcraft part Mike all right so now I'm home I cleaned it all up and ah there's barely any scratches just a few I did not touch this at all I promise I wouldn't even this is not a joke

I did not rehome this or anything I just wanted to see because usually 3v is an absolute super wonderful steel and stay sharp so I'm going to see if there's any little Nick's I'm using this here right now going slow just to see who just like 3v would do not one little nick sometimes you can't see them with your eyes but going through a phone book paper

just amazing

oh yeah I could probably cut this slower let me get to the tip you know people will go fast and fast doesn't really show if there's a nick you need to go slow that's the angle of the paper anyway okay that's enough super tool super super tool triple thumbs up for this

[Music]

you
