all right so I'm out here in the early well early early morning well before it gets a little too hot so I apologize for the annoying crunching noise but if I come in the afternoon I'll be synching to my knees they'll be too warm and even with my snowshoes so that's it Anton calls it his Viking hatchet now Anton is the owner of Siberian Forge custom knives here in Canada if you remember the video I posted I can't remember anyway a while back about the accout which is the knife the traditional knife in Siberia or Russia and he makes those as well now this is the small version I think he makes other sizes too it's a very small hatchet it's about the size I think maybe grands furs Brooks wildlife hatchet about not as heavy take a look she lovely sheath I like the color looks oldie and traditional and all that stuff he's got obviously over here is to hold the mask on the head and here becomes a belt loop which is an excellent idea now the only now this is constructive criticism if I can call it that way the only thing that I would do but of course it maybe won't keep it as traditional is instead of having stitches on this side and the one that you know on both straps here I would put swivels just to be able to get out of the way one you know - so it's the straps are at the top and then it's more easy to take the mask off it's not difficult to take it off but it's like the straps are a little bit you know everywhere in the way but er than that it's great okay take a look at this beauty that's about 14 inches Hickory handle I like that he made this back in here and I don't know all the terms of these axes but anyway nice and fat so you can really have a grab to it it's not heavy it's uh I think the head is about maybe a little over half a pound point six or something quick look of it as I said fourteen inches all right very very fun to carry I mean it's not heavy at all he's put this jute twine type of wrapping around it

as you can see because it's a small hatch that you don't want it to you know be too thick because this is not gonna be doing major work it's for small tasks so it's important that all right so he has sorry about that okay yeah it was thing saying it needs to be a little thin now this came it's not it's been through other hands I don't know how many hands one or two other channels he tried it out it came pretty sharp but not crazy sharp all I have to do is hone it and it's very shaving sharp now the steel is 50 to 100 which is proper steel for this type of build and I like the design little hammer pull there and as you've noticed it's a bearded axe you see the beard here now maybe you know this maybe you don't but wow that's beautiful Thank You birdies I know spring is coming I'm very excited too okay so maybe we think that the bearded axe was invented for battle and even bigger ones for chopping wood and he did become later on but in the beginning okay these were made this way to save on steel because back in the day steel was not readily available like today was very precious so they decided to make it this way to save on the steel but without compromising the cutting edge here and then of course it was probably used in battles and you see it also in history the big big ones where they used to chop wood with and all that stuff it's about six inches this way and I'd say about a three inch cutting edge oh yeah it's very very lightweight and comfortable and of course this is you know small TAS I don't know kindling for sure some carving but it's a fun fun tool I've played with it already but we're gonna play with it more so you can see it a little bit more that little birch tree I just was a little bit a little bit punky on the punky side so we're gonna try something a little bit more sturdy dry hopefully a little bit funky smell bad yeah she's dry it's actually very enjoyable to use because it's lightweight latest sharp spin well this thin piece here okay I found a nice maple here it bites not too much I love it because usually it's in blades we'll have to want to jam in then you're always forcing it out but not this one take your time and when you use these small well these small hatchets make sure you used to make it easier for you use the back end and don't go forward with all your arm let the Hat should do the job in the sense you know with just whip it okay there's no sense of trying to show how fast an axe can cut just going through here okay it's about ready to at the same time when you do whip and go slow you can aim properly or better get the funky out of there bit like and have solid now I split already but now should work better

nice lot here so they're small tasks it's it's fun gorgeous wood is not splitting nicely actually this is the real world now when you get a nice split like that it happens 50% of the time rest of the time it's alright splits cuz you got knots and other obstacles this knot came to see about you okay go right in the knot here thank you okay so I did say I would make you fast fire on the snow for you I've done this before in a video a while back which is very doable or something quick quick coffee quick lunch right now I'm looking for a quick lunch I've got I'm right on so they'll need to start building a platform and all that stuff you got a branch holding my water I'm about ten inches from the from the snow you don't want to be too high because after a while let's you know it's gonna go down to the ground so you want to keep it as flamed up as you can and all you need to do really is feed it you know fire goes up climbs so you feed it until your water is ready so that's what we'll do some birch bark here now we're going to use survival lighter these are hard to come by but if you find one there they go really well now I've got birch bark you can have and the other things you have around home on your area make sure the birch bark is well caught before you start putting your wood all you need to do is try not to get burnt and

so my goal is to keep as much flame as I can on that on my water you need to adjust it like lower it you can which I will do that's it I'll explain to you why it's not going out from under so keep an eye on it keep putting stuff and your water's hot you can pour it or whatever reason you need your water for so I'll keep an eye on that wait till that water becomes hot enough oh my noodles okay so I did a little bit of adjusting as you can see I'm really really close that's what's fun about snow it's easy to readjust just keep feeding usually it takes about if the wind doesn't get involved and pushes my heat away 15 20 minutes should do the trick so I'll get some more branches which are readily available as long as I keep feeding it it's gonna give me that claim that I need to warm up my water I'm almost there already even though this thing is sinking so you don't need anything fancy to get a quick coffee or a meal on the go okay now something else my waters ready see a steam coming out anyway something else you have to be aware of when you're doing something like this obviously this is sinking so you got to be careful your pieces of stick sticks need to be short enough to sync with the fire because if not it's gonna let's say I use this piece here it's gonna be from one into the other and it's not gonna go down and your fire is gonna have too much oxygen and it's gonna well die on you so the wood has to go down with it now the reason why it's not dying because snow contains air so it's hot enough that whatever water's in the snow evaporates like right now this time of the year there's a lot of water in the snow in the middle of winter there's like maybe 70% air or 80% right now I'd say 50/50 but my fire is hot enough that's not going to affect it at all I mean this thing would burn if I keep feeding it the only problem I'll be getting if it gets too deep is I'll be lacking oxygen so if you want to keep this going you're gonna need to dig trenches on both sides or around it allow oxygen to come into your fire all right so my water is hot enough it's time to take care of my noodles

actually you always have to remember this is a winter so even though I put hot water in here I want to keep it off the snow so it does its job right now I'm gonna stop putting I'm gonna stop putting wood in there I don't need any more fire

that's plenty keep that covered and we'll be all set for lunch in about Oh 10 minutes maybe so now you see the hole a little bit better as the fire dies out it's uh maybe eight inches deep and oh it took maybe 10 minutes the wind was on my side wasn't too windy so the flames stayed on my pot I read just Edyta and it was quick fast fire my kimchi noodles already been that didn't take too long less than 10 5 minutes maybe thank you right a lot of people wondering why I pray before I eat I don't do it to show off or because it's an ease because I love my god I want to be obedient to him so let's see
