Fresh Bowdrill With Cedar

Description

In this video I make a fresh bowdrill set from wood which comes from the cypress family (cedar). I was pretty lucky since the wood was still a little bit moist.

Hello my name is Lilly and I am making videos about primitive living skills, survival, bushcraft, camping gear and prepping. I consider myself being a modern hunter-gatherer who wants to live as close as possible with mother nature and right now I am in the process of learning how to live off the land and thrive in the wilderness. hi guys today I'm found here by the creek my bag out campus up there and I was just exploring the creek and yeah had a scout around and I just discovered that I have some trees here which belong to the cypress family I heard that that's a good material for the board room okay I just found this branch which is bad and standing so the crown of the tree is protecting this branch from getting wet and we had quite some rain the last weeks but I think that this will be quite dry and I want to try to use it for a bow drill set it's definitely softwood and you can test it out if you scratch the wood with your fingernail and if it's leaving some marsh you know that it's softwood hmm tax services hmm thanks Pat it's a little bit punky so I don't know if this is going to work okay the notch is ready and the spindle - and I'm putting the spindle now into my czech head so that it keeps more and the fireboard - and next I'm going to make a bird's nest and I have found that the bark of this tree is awesome for a bird's nest because it has very fine fibers and usually after I did the first drill I make a pause and I relax a little bit and wait until I have regained my strength so that I can give all I have for the final drill first try first try this material whatever treatise is exactly is perfect for the bow drill perfect well guys I think it was pretty lucky today it worked the first time but I have to say that the wood was not 100% dry that was still a little bit of moisture in it maybe because it was growing in the creek it probably helped that I carved this went into the notch which gave the amber a little bit more oxygen and it almost went out so there was only just a little bit of smoke and I had to blew it gently into a bigger cold and the tinder worked amazing it caught the flame of the Ember very fast and it was holding the flame for a long time so this is superior to grass and this is going to be my favorite tinder now and the great thing is I have about 40 of these trees down there by the creek just by my bug-out camp yeah guys it's getting dark now and I have to go home I want to thank you for watching please check out these videos here at the sides if you want to see more bow drilling videos also follow me on Facebook I have some cool videos on Facebook that I don't show here on YouTube and yeah that's about it so stay tuned till next time
