Hi, my name is Lilly and I like spending time in nature to practice my survival and bushcraft skills. This is a holistic survival channel which means that besides wilderness survival I also do modern survival videos. Sometimes I use modern tools which people might have at hand in a real survival situation. Also all of my videos are pre-recorded, which mean that they do not get released immediately after I film then. That is why seasons in the video can differ from actual seasons. Thanks for watching ~ Survival Lilly

Video Transcription

hi guys what's going on so today I want to make a preparations video because I have an announcement to make I'm going to Africa for free weeks and and really pumped about it so as you can see I'm pumping weights no I'm just kidding but actually I try to be very fit for this trip physically so that I'm strong in case something happens you know so I'd like to be very fit and that's why I'm training with the waves and yeah I'm going to Gaboon which is at the equator I have a friend there and he invited me to come and take a look at the jungle so we're going to make some survival videos there and we are going to go on safaris do some fishing overnighters and yeah I'm really excited about it it's going to be an awesome trip and in this video I just wanted to show how I am prepared for this trip yeah so first of all a cocoon it's in the tropics and it's the high-risk zone for malaria so actually I'm going to take some medication to prevent malaria and they have some really bad strains of malaria down where you can get like meningitis brain inflammation and yeah it's really really really bad illness so I definitely don't want to get that and that's why I'm going to take the malaria prophylaxis medication and the second thing that I needed was vaccinations so to get into the country you need to have at least yellow fever they you have to take this passport with you which is for vaccinations and they are going to take a look if you really have this next nation otherwise you can't enter the country

so you need at least yellow fever for vaccinations but also I had a couple of other vaccinations rabies meningitis meningococcal

and typhus so apparently these are you know the illnesses that you can get very frequently in the tropics so that's what I had a couple of vaccinations and the medication against malaria and yeah here on the table I have a little bit of here that I want to show you here that I want to take with me on the trip alrighty so this is a small part of the gear that I want to take with me it's survival related of course I'm going to take out of stuff with me like clothing and yeah out of stuff presents for the village and yeah first of all here I have a very good set of binoculars so we are going to go onto fairies sometime and this one here has 12 times magnification and yeah he said that we are going to see some hippos and maybe elephants gorillas and crocodiles so it's going to be the real chunga and that's why I want to take this binoculars with me then for cooking I have two small pots here it's made from titanium so it's really lightweight and it's it won't add too much weight to the pack anymore and also for water purification I have this water filter here it's a soy a mini poops but I have to say these filters here actually mostly filled out bacteria and protozoa like Cryptosporidium but it has to be said that in the tropics there are also quite a lot of viruses around in the water like hepatitis A and yeah filters like these they can't filter out viruses so actually this is just for emergency and yeah mainly I want to cook off some water to purify it and this is why I have brought two continues with me this here's the first one it's a metal container and a cup and I have a second one here for my cameraman and yeah with this I'm going to cook up some water if necessary if you are in the real jungle and we can't get you know any tap water or water from bottles then we're going to take this here for about a purification the next thing that I'm going to take with me is the small survival kit that I have put together yeah it's just a standard survival kit including some hooks some fishing line I think I'm also going to take my fishing rods with me because I heard that fishing is great in Africa so that's a small survival kit it also contains some matches and cotton and yeah these are my batteries for my headlamp in the tropics around the equator the night is 12 hours long so this is why I don't want to miss out the flashlight and this is the flashlight of my choice and it's a waterproof flashlight which is you know small lightweight but still very effective now for my camera I'm going to take this with me these are batteries for the camera and have a charging unit which runs with USB so I can either hook up a power bank or I can take my 20 Watts this is my 10 watts solar panel that I have another one with 20 watts this one here ok I got it

so this is my 20 watts solar panel and with these two devices I'm going to recharge my batteries if I don't have any electricity around but also I'm going to take a fully charged power bank with me just in case and yeah so this is how I'm going to recharge the batteries of this camera here okay next I'm going to take this what a proof back with me and yeah this is just to protect the variables from the water as you know the tropics are often very humid and I don't want to get my electronics damaged then I also have some aqua tabs these water purification tablets so just in case you know if I really need to get some water purified then I can combine these two methods of purification so the water filter will take out the bacteria and you know also a little bit of protozoa and the archetypes are going to do the rest so if you combine these two together then your water will be purified but that's just for emergency I don't think I will need it because most of the time I will boil my water and then I have this channel head here yeah very important I really love to set I think it has the right color for the African jungle and the Sun there is pretty intense so I really want to protect my head and my face my shoulders from getting sunburned and yeah it also helps against the mosquitoes I'm also going to take this small split spoke with me it's so dirty I don't want to get it out it's dirty and rusty from the last trips on the tropical island and on the Mediterranean Sea and yeah it's just a small stove it rounds with this dry fuel I think this is the best solution because I'm going on the airplane and they don't like seeing ethanol you know high percentage alcohol is something they don't like on the airplane so that's why I'm going to take this stuff with me and yeah I'm also going to take a custom knife with me which I'm going to try out at this trip but I don't have a ship with yet and that's what I want to make right now [Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

all right so this was how I made the shift for my knife and the next topic that I have to talk about is snakes so that's a real problem in the Chandler there are a lot of Manila snakes in cocoon which kill you they will kill you anti-venom is often not available in the hospitals and yeah so I thought about making myself a pair of snake gaiters [Music]

[Music]

okay folks so I have my snake gaiters ready I think they are pretty awesome yeah they're not really beautiful but hey I'm sure that they are practical and working and functioning and that's the only thing that I wanted to achieve so I'm sure that it can make a much nicer pair of snakes Gators but I'm really okay with that and also I think that this table is more than enough to protect myself from a snake bite and yeah looks pretty awesome yeah and this hole down here I still have to do together I think I'm going to take some epoxy glue and then I'm really ready to go you know so now I don't have to be afraid anymore of the snakes or at least I have reduced the padding risk by 80% or so and yeah as I said I'm going to super full doc martens which go up to here in the channel and then I really should be fine of course it always can happen that a snake you know hangs in the tree and bites you when you go by but yeah at least at at this height I can see it you know and when you're walking you don't over see what's underneath the shrub so now I'm really happy that I have my snake gaiters so the snakes they can you know try bite me and they stay - so I will cook them up I heard that that tastes like chicken yeah so I'm really happy with my snake gaiters and yeah we have a saying in Austria which goes you can't be silly but at least you need to know how you can help yourself all right so this was how I prepared for the Africa trip I want to thank you for watching I am really looking

over to this adventure and I hope that I will survive and come back in one piece so yeah that's it thank you for watching and stay tuned till next time we lay out
