Hi, my name is Lilly and I like spending time in nature to practice my survival and bushcraft skills. This is a holistic survival channel which means that I also do videos about prepping and urban survival. This is not a purely primitive survival channel. Sometimes I use modern tools which people might have at hand in a real survival situation. Also all of my videos are pre-recorded, which mean that they do not get released immediately after I film then. That is why seasons in the video can differ from actual seasons. Thanks for watching ~ Survival Lilly

hi guys my name is Lily and today I wanted to make a video about how you can secure your camp against predators like bears Cougars or wolves and this is a pretty interesting topic and today we're going to take a close look at electronical alarm devices like these ones here stay tuned okay so what is this kind of device here this device here is a alarm for women you can buy it very cheaply on Amazon actually and I got mine for three or four euros so women wear it on their keys or on the bank or on their luggage or in their backpack and if someone tries to steal the stuff or if someone wants to attack them for whatever reason they just pull out the stick of the device here and then it makes this very loud sound so it's going to alarm the surroundings and that's great for urban survival but it's also great for a wilderness survival because we can use it for our perimeter alarm now why is a perimeter alarm so important basically when you're out camping in the wilderness or when you're in a bad situation and you have to sleep in the wilderness for some kind of reason and let's say you are around black bears wolves Cougars and other predators then it's great if you have something that alarms you in the night for example when there's a big predator coming and approaching your camp and you are the most vulnerable when you're sleeping for example if you have a very deep sleep sometimes it can happen that yeah you don't hear the bear or whatever predator that is coming and then you might have a problem and when I was in Vancouver Island I didn't have anything like this but now I wish that a half cuz these are awesome these are super lightweight cheap and you can buy a couple of these and throw it into your backpack now let's set up this device here the only thing that you need for it is cordage and the best cordage for this is fishing wire because it's very thin you can take a lot of lengths with you doesn't cost a lot and it's almost invisible in the night so people are going to stand blow over it and most predators are not going to see it as well except maybe cans because because they can see very well so now let's set up this lamp and see how it goes okay now I'm going to set the alarm from the small tree here I just make a simple square knot here so they're not shouldn't open and it needs to hold a little bit of weight and then I just go to the other tree where I want to set the perimeter long okay so now I cut off the fishing line so I have my long trip wire here yeah you can also take wire if you want to but this fishing line is it's great so I prefer that okay next I'm going to attach the alarm device to the tree and I'm going to use a little bit of the fishing wire as well cutting off a little bit of like half a meter of fishing wire and now I just go around the tree and I take my security device it takes a loop and fed through the loop through the fishing line and next I'm just going to make a simple square knot again nothing fancy just a quick knot okay that's it so now we have this anchor point here and make sure that it's not too low so it should be at knee high

and when it's too low animals can easily step over it when it's too high they can go underneath but knee level is a perfect level for this kind of a gun okay now I have my alarm device hanging from the tree and next I'm going to feed the tripwire the fishing line through the other loop here and I'm going to put a little bit of tension on the line not too much because otherwise the alarm device goes off and now I just pinch together these two strings here and then I just make a couple of knots again the string is greatly camouflaged but the device is actually easily to be seen at daytime but actually when it's night you won't see this anymore and now we have set our alarm and if something walks through here then the alarm goes off as you can see the alarm is working pretty well pretty awesome if you have like five of them in your pack and if you have a lot of fishing line with you you can secure all of the perimeter of your camp easily it doesn't take a long time to to make this perimeter so it's pretty cool

easygoing and yeah one of the best things that I have seen which so cheap and the most important thing is when you are buying such a device like this I don't know what exact device this is here the most important thing is that the stick here and the attachment point of the loop is in one line I've seen other devices where the stick comes out here at this side and it needs to be pulled downwards so that's not good and it's important that you look for a device which has a straight line from the stick to the loop okay the next limitation that I wanted to talk about is actually that the string only works with a battery so in summertime that's fine but in wintertime it can happen that the battery goes out because it's a cold so that can be an issue and then you have to go back to mechanical devices for securing your perimeter alarm and also with this very device here I don't have access to the batteries so I can't change the battery but I'm definitely going to open this up and try to to attach a wire to the battery holder and then maybe set a external battery holder onto this device here for example two AAA batteries or something and if you make that then you can change the batteries every night and charge them again over the day so that's a great solution and that's what I'm going to do yeah guys so this is how to set up a perimeter alarm around your camp pretty easy you just have to get a couple of these devices a little bit of fishing line and you go around your camp and that's it so it's very easy and if it's raining you just take enough plastic sheeting and you cover the alarm device no problem and yeah pretty cool I want to thank you for watching please make sure that you subscribe to this channel if you want to see more videos and also subscribe to my Facebook fan site because some people are complaining that they don't get notified anymore when I'm bringing out a video on YouTube so if you go on Facebook you will see all of the videos that I'm making and I'm also on patreon as well and I'm posting all of my videos there as well yeah that's it guys I want to thank you for watching again and if you're interested in one of these devices you can find our link in the description of this video stay tuned till next time
