Hi, my name is Lilly and I like spending time in nature to practice my survival and bushcraft skills. This is a holistic survival channel which means that I also do videos about prepping and urban survival. This is not a purely primitive survival channel. Sometimes I use modern tools which people might have at hand in a real survival situation. Also all of my videos are pre-recorded, which mean that they do not get released immediately after I film then. That is why seasons in the video can differ from actual seasons. Thanks for watching ~ Survival Lilly

hi guys my name is Lily and today I want to talk a little bit about the definition of survival because sometimes I got the feeling that in my comments section there are some people who are confusing Stone Age survival with prepping or modern day survival and today I want to make a clarification video so the events that sparked the idea of this video boss basically that I have uploaded a video of the shelter how I built a shelter and then a lot of commenters said yeah this is not real survival because you are using a hatchet saw nails at the top and only primitive technology is the real deal so that's their statement and today I want to clarify that different terms of survival and why the shelter is still as a viable shelter stay tuned let's start at the beginning so about 3.4 million years ago humans discovered how to utilize stones for tools and for weapons that's what we call Stone Age the beginning of the Stone Age and Stone Age is often referred to as primitive survival as well so it was very icky and primitive and people had to had to learn how to Flint nap how to attach a piece of Flint a sharpened stone to an air shaft using sin Udyr sinew and birch glue so that was the time when humans started to find out what they can utilize from from Mother Nature making pen pitch glue and so on making primitive shelters using bark for your shelter so basically in Stone Age was the first thought that we made to become a little bit more civilized the discovery of fire was very important so that we could move to colder locations like Europe for example and here without fire in the wintertime they would have died so Stone Age survival

was pure it was a hike it was really hard and I wouldn't want to be there I would rather live in and yeah today because now we have medicine and we can live a fairly good life that's a Stone Age which lasted pretty long a couple of hundred thousand years and then about 1200 years before Christ humans have advanced through the Aeron age which helped him a lot so now they were able to produce metal knives metal excess and later they developed some metal sauce and having the right tools which are more efficient than stone tools is also increasing the rate of survivability here and wilderness so with a proper X you can you have good chances of surviving a hard winter here in Europe and that was pretty cool so that was the errand age and then humans the human population grew exponentially because the survival was secured and then we could get more and more children we could feed more and more children we could get into agriculture so we became more and more efficient about living on this planet and now we have the situation that we are so many people that we have altered our planet now we have vast areas which are cities which are streets which are shopping malls or other buildings it has become very easy to travel you can travel with your car you can travel with the airplane with the train and now we have the best camping equipment we have the best sauce the best access we have the best synthetic sleeping pack and so on so we really have civilized ourselves but through altering our planet for example we have left a lot of trash around the planet we can't call survival Stone Age survival anymore let me show you something let's talk about this old rusty can here you can find a lot of trash in the wilderness in the woods unfortunately because a lot of idiots don't give a shit about the environment so you will find a lot of plastic bottles on the coast which you can utilize for containers and you can find metal trash like this can here I'm using this can for testing my knifes by the way but let's say you find this can in the wilderness out there somewhere because you got lost maybe you are a bush pilot in the Canadian wilderness and your aircraft has a failure and yeah let's say you are in the wilderness and then you find trash like this and of course you would utilize the stress you can cut out a couple of arrow tips or you can use it as a hobo stove or oven it's intact you can use it as a container to boil water in so of course you're going to use this trash you would be stupid not to use it but also you can't call this Stone Age survival anymore because the trash can was not existent in Stone Age so we have to coin a new term and I believe the best term is the best term for survival in our age is modern-day survival so you can use everything that you have maybe you get lost in the jungle but you have a backpack with you there you have lighter with you for example it would be stupid not to use the lighter of course the lighter has nothing to do with Stone Age and primitive survival but still you're going to use it and still in our age you can get into a survival situation so that's the big difference between Stone Age survival and modern day survival you have to use everything that you have for example if your car breaks down in the middle of the forest and let's say there's a lot of snow because it's a whiteout and no one can help you you are in a really bad situation so you probably have to start fire with the jumper cables that you have attached to the battery of your car so as we have altered our planet the term survival has altered as well now I want to come to another thing which is prepping so a couple of people say hey you know what I don't want to get into a survival situation and I want to prepare myself for an eventual risky shgf situation a lot of people are afraid of Preppers I believe because they can't understand by Preppers don't trust the system and most of the people rely on the system but some people see the risks of being fully dependent on a fragile system so they decide to maybe prepare a bug-out bag because they live in an in a hurricane prone area so I think it's actually pretty wise to prepare yourself for certain sh t s situations and building a pan out camp for example belongs to prepping as well so you prepare a camp in the wilderness so that in case of a survival situation of a big calamity like for example a storm that rips away your house or maybe a war or maybe something else that you have a place where you can flee to so that I think it's pretty wise to do that and a lot of people say this is not survival because it's prepping because you have done all this work before the actual survival situation but still prepping is also a part of survival it's just a category a small category which also belongs to survival because you are doing this for long-term survival so some people say yeah I want to prepare myself against let's say a pandemic and they want to buy some food and and prepare water filter at home and maybe I want to install a solar panel on my house and things like that you know and prepping is also a part of survival because it's some kind some kind of long-term survival you know you're also prolonging your life with this actions and that's what survival is about you're conserving your life and you want to survive with all the tools that you have so that's the big difference now we had primitive survival or Stone Age survival we had modern day survival because we have altered our surroundings we have prepping where you prepare a package camp before shtf and yes this is also about survival but not immediate wilderness survival and then there's also another term which is called urban survival which is about you know survival in the city and actually it is more likely that you come into a survival situation in the city or in sub urban areas because over half of the population of the world is now living in the city and a lot of them don't go out into the wilderness anymore so in the city you have crime you have different kind of threats than here and wilderness here in the wilderness it can happen that a bear chases you but in the city it's more likely that you get in a real survival situation maybe because you get marked robbed or knifed or whatever you know so now we have all the importance of our terms I think that this video clarifies a little bit of confusion

I hope so at least and yeah survival's great I have a holistic Survival channel so I do videos about primitive survival about modern survival and about prepping which is the shelter here and about urban survival as well so yeah I want to thank you for watching I hope that this video helps you a little bit with understanding the different definitions maybe you have maybe you have another definition of survival let me know in the comments if you think that I'm wrong maybe I'm wrong maybe you're right so let me know in the comment section what do you think about survival and if you agree with my opinion thank you for watching and stay tuned till next time
