Hello my name is Lilly and I am making videos about primitive living skills, survival, bushcraft, camping gear and prepping. I consider myself being a modern hunter-gatherer who wants to live as close as possible with mother nature and right now I am in the process of learning how to live off the land and thrive in the wilderness. Thanks for watching ~ Survival Lilly

Video Transcription

hi I'm survivor Lily and today's video is going to be about survival food and today I gonna eat some cattail roots cattail doesn't only provide us with tinder for fire making but it's also completely edible we can eat the stalk and roots and the roots are very valuable as survival food because they contain a lot of starch if you want to get the roots out of the plan it's no use to rip out the plant because the roots are going to break so it's important that you dig down to the roots in a real survival situation you don't have a shovel with you and that's why I'm taking the stick here I have just hung up two main roots and these plants are all connected the root is going from one plant to another okay I have just found a very young brood which has been growing the last two months in spring here and you can totally eat them raw

mm-hmm

and they taste very unique it's hard to describe a little bit sweet because of the starch now let's see how the roots taste they don't have a lot of flavor so now let's see how the roots taste over fire

okay now I want to start fine if that I can't turn stuff that we collected earlier cattail fluff is a flash tinder so you really should prepare your second timber before you ignites the flash tinder

okay I've roasted the stalks and Ruth's nap for about 20 minutes and first I want to try the stock here tastes very good actually

especially this inner part here is very good and soft that's how the route looks from the inside

I think that cattail is a great survival food you can eat both the stalk and the root and you have great tinder material from the caterer fluff and besides that the roots come with a lot of starch which is not so available with other plants in nature so I really want to thank you for watching thank you for your time if you liked the video leave a thumbs up and a comment and if you want to see more subscribe to my channel
