Hello my name is Lilly and I am making videos about primitive living skills, survival, bushcraft, camping gear and prepping. I consider myself being a modern hunter-gatherer who wants to live as close as possible with mother nature and right now I am in the process of learning how to live off the land and thrive in the wilderness. Thanks for watching ~ Survival Lilly

hi guys I'm Lilly and today I'm back at the Riverside and I've just discovered that there is this dead tree laying across the trail and I want to try to make a bow drill set out of this wood here which I can't identify it's been long dead and I couldn't find anybody but it seems to be of medium softness and their wood seems to be dry so let's give it a try this wood seems to be harder than a fall initially so usually soft woods are better for the bow drill but people see how it turns out exhale ooh

first room very black and the smoke looked great so I think there's a chance that I can get an ember if this here okay now it's time to craft a notch and I have to hurry a little bit because a storm is coming okay they're not just ready I have put an extra ventilation notch underneath the vertical notch so that the ember can get more air to breathe and now let's try if this works it didn't work well the first time didn't work the material was making very long fibers so it's not a good bow drill material tried one more time the smoke was good though and it it's all black but yeah it's maybe not suitable for the bow drill okay the second time it worked and this time I didn't press down on the spindle as much as I did before and I focus on more speed and yeah it worked this time the dust is a little bit finer go time

yeah guys so my learning experience today was that you need more time for producing enough tests with hard wood and at the beginning I made a mistake that I used all my power and a lot of pressure to produce an amber but it didn't work out because it was too coarse and then in the end I didn't have any power anymore to finish the amber successfully so yeah you need a little bit more patience with hardwoods but it's not impossible and it's very cool that it worked today because I don't even know what would this is
